2 Pianos,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1440150 Composed by Florence B. Price (1887-1953). Arranged by Mena Williams (b. 2002). 20th Century,Classical. Score. 90 pages. Mena C. Williams | The Unfinished Symphony #1020099. Published by Mena C. Williams | The Unfinished Symphony (A0.1440150). In 1903, Florence B. Price (1887-1953) attended the New England Conservatory for piano, organ, and composition. When Price graduated from NEC in 1910, she returned to Arkansas, bringing music education to her hometown. Unfortunately, due to increased racially charged hostility within Little Rock, Arkansas, Florence Price and many other families who participated in the Great Migration moved to Chicago in 1927, where she found new musical studies and performance opportunities. The opportunity that launched Price’s musical career as a composer was when she won the Wanamaker Prize in 1932 for her Symphony in e minor and became the first Black woman composer to have a major orchestral work performed by an American orchestra. Four years later, Price composed Quintet in a minor for Piano and Strings. Within the Quintet, there are four movements, the “Allegro non troppo”, the “Andante con moto”, the “Juba”, and the “Scherzo”. Quintet in A Minor for Piano and Strings utilizes many of Florence Price’s trademark stylistic ideas, imbuing her music with harmonic freshness and a creative and organic structural approach as well as melodies that reflect her spiritual and cultural heritage, all stemming from how Price’s music brings together the European-classical tradition and African American spirituals and folk tunes. Florence Price was a deeply religious person who brought the music of the African American church and the influences of Romantic composers such as Dvořák and Tchaikovsky. Thus further resulting in the overall appeal of Price’s music. The captivating lyricism and juba (a dance that originated from plantation enslaved people in the Southern US) rhythmic devices.

Gabriel Pierné's lively minuet is from a collection of 15 piano pieces, each dedicated to a fellow composer. This one is dedicated to Camille Saint-Saëns. In a minor key but sprightly, it's more of a free-form rondo than a minuet, with a rhythmic principal theme, two fugato sections, and a French Romantic sensibility. Arranged for advanced players, it's a great concert opener or encore.  Approx. Duration: 3:20Please visit my Web site to explore more classics for adventurous woodwind quintets.

Arranged by Ray Thompson. 19th Century,Religious,Romantic Period. 8 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1052119. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1474496). Chopin wrote a number of preludes for piano solo. His cycle of 24 Preludes, Op. 28, covers all major and minor keys.In addition, Chopin wrote three other preludes: a prelude in C♯ minor, Op. 45; a piece in A♭ major from 1834; and an unfinished piece in E♭ minor. These are sometimes referred to as Nos. 25, 26, and 27, respectively. This is no 6 in B minorIt is quite short - 28 bars longThis prelude was played at Chopin's funeral on organ. Its melancholy melody is primarily given to the pianist's left hand.Rather than giving the melody to the bassoon, I have given it primarly to the clarinet, with the 8 bar middle section given to the bassoonArranged here for wind quintetNOTE: CLARINET PART IS FOR CLARINET IN ACheck out my other version (transposed into C minor, which has a Bb clarinet partCheck out my other Chopin arrangements of some of his other Preludes (including Raindrop) and of Nocturne No.2.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.942173 Composed by Carl Reinecke. Arranged by Armin Terzer. Romantic Period. 83 pages. Armin Terzer #5305567. Published by Armin Terzer (A0.942173). One of the most beautiful, fully romantic works for mixed chamber ensemble (oboe, horn and piano), Carl Reinecke’s Trio in A minor op. 188 is here arranged for woodwind quintet. The oboe and horn parts are the same as the original (with an attempt at unifying articulation and dynamics), while the rest of the quintet covers the piano part. This works surprisingly well, with the result sounding as if it had always been conceived for this combination (well… almost – the flute part gets a thorough workout in the low range which is not entirely characteristic). Featuring oboe and horn, but giving every instrument plenty to do and moments to shine, this is a fantastic addition to the romantic woodwind quintet repertoire – which, besides the usual suspects, is surprisingly scarce. The level of difficulty is just above advanced intermediate – the low flute part, some tricky rhythmic passages (especially for the clarinet) and overall ensemble considerations make this a challenge, but a very, very rewarding one, for an advanced quintet.

Clarinet Quintet,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1489607 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 18 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1066474. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1489607). Brahms Six Pieces for Piano (6 Klavierstücke), Op. 118, were completed in 1893 and published with a dedication to Clara Schumann. The set was the penultimate of Brahms's published works. It was also his penultimate work for piano solo. The pieces are frequently performed. Like Brahms's other late keyboard works, Op. 118 is more introspective than his earlier piano pieces, which tend to be more virtuosic in character. The six pieces are:Intermezzo in A minor. Allegro non assai, ma molto appassionatoIntermezzo in A major. Andante teneramente (This one)Ballade in G minor. Allegro energicoIntermezzo in F minor. Allegretto un poco agitatoRomanze in F major. I have tried to arrange this popular piano piece as though Beethoven had written it for wind quintet. Rather than simply using Beethovens rather sparse score,I have adapted it for the wind quintet The horn part is written for natural horn in F which gives it an authentic classical feel. It should be performed with a little rubato. The complete work arranged for wind quintet is available on this site..

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1109895 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical,Religious,Sacred. 8 pages. RayThompsonMusic #712266. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1109895). Arranged standard brass quintet. A beautiful piece of music. It suits the brass quintet. The Lacrimosa (Latin for weeping/tearful), also a name that derives from Our Lady of Sorrows, a title given to The Virgin Mary, is part of the Dies Irae sequence in the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. Its text comes from the Latin 18th and 19th stanzas of the sequence. Lacrimosa dies illa Qua resurget ex favilla Judicandus homo reus. Huic ergo parce, Deus: Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem. Amen. Full of tears will be that day When from the ashes shall arise The guilty man to be judged; Therefore spare him, O God, Merciful Lord Jesus, Grant them eternal rest. Amen. The piece begins piano on a rocking rhythm in 12/8, intercut with quarter rests, which will be reprised after two bars, on Lacrimosa dies illa (This tearful day). Then follows a diatonic progression, in disjointed eighth-notes on the text resurget (will be reborn), then legato and chromatic on a powerful crescendo. The music is forte by bar 8, at which point Mozart's contribution to the movement is interrupted by his death. Süssmayr brings the music to a reference of the Introit and ends on an Amen cadence. Discovery of a fragmentary Amen fugue in Mozart's hand has led to speculation that it may have been intended for the Requiem. Indeed, many modern completions (such as Levin's) complete Mozart's fragment. Some sections of this movement are quoted in the Requiem mass of Franz von Suppé, who was a great admirer of Mozart. Ray Robinson, the music scholar and president (from 1969 to 1987) of the Westminster Choir College, suggests that Süssmayr used materials from Credo of one of Mozart's earlier masses, Mass in C major, K. 220 Sparrow in completing this movement.

RayThompsonMusic #1052138. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1474513). This is no 6 in B minor.I have transposed it up to C minor, to fit the range of the Bb clarinet.Check out my original version In Bminor which has a Clarinet in A partIt is quite short - 28 bars longThis prelude was played at Chopin's funeral on organ. Its melancholy melody is primarily given to the pianist's left hand.Rather than giving the melody to the bassoon, I have given it primarly to the clarinet, with the 8 bar middle section given to the bassoonArranged here for wind quintetNOTE: CLARINET PART IS FOR CLARINET IN BbCheck out my other Chopin arrangements of some of his other Preludes (including Raindrop) and of Nocturne No.2.Arranged wind quintet.

Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1486812). Brahms Six Pieces for Piano, Op. The pieces are:Intermezzo in A minor. Allegro non assai, ma molto appassionatoIntermezzo in A major. Andante teneramente Ballade in G minor. Allegro energicoIntermezzo in F minor. Allegretto un poco agitatoRomanze in F major. AndanteIntermezzo in E♭ minor. Andante, largo e mestoThis is my arramgement of no 2 Intermezzo in AIt is arranged here for standard wind decet/dectet (double wind quintet) and bass.Check out my other Brahms arrangements : Variations on a Theme of Haydn, Lullaby, various movements from his Serenades and various Intermezzos, 2 Ballades and a Romanze from his piano works.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549015). Alto Sax version of Moment Musicaux, Op. 94 (D. 780) No. 3 by Franz Schubert, published in 1828. Duration: 1:53 Score 6 pg. 54 ms. Alto Sax 1 pg. Piano part 3 pg. One of Schubert's most well-known pieces. This is an effective recital encore due to its brevity and range of expression. Could work well for a variety of occasions: wedding receptions, church services (Easter), and anniversaries. It seems like a pleasant dance, unlike some previous dance music. Schubert improvised these dances at parties for his friends.  Although conceived on-the-fly, these dances are the work of a genius. Composers have similarly elevated dance music to artistic status. As a result, they freed it from the original purpose of dancing. Certainly, the older masters used the dance forms as vehicles for complex treatments. Here, however, Schubert retains the dance-like quality while finally expressing his innermost thoughts and emotions. The dance is certainly filled with a doleful expression, yet the texture remains even more light and refined. Therefore, to perform these with sensitivity we probably need to use a light but accurate touch. The accompaniment pattern needs to be crisp and delicate – probably even in the more forceful parts. The piano pedal should also be used very carefully so as a result not to blur the outline. Instead, it should contribute to the dynamic quality of the piece. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548691). A Bass Clarinet Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Bass Clarinet part: 1 pg. Piano reads from the score. Schubert seems to have composed this piece as a song-setting. This is because he wanted to portray a poignant emotional event from a poem. The poem was Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake. The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Piano,Viola - Level 1 - SKU: A0.548704 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411159. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548704). A Viola Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Viola part: 1 pg. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular. Â
