Â This pizzicato piece, only uses the notes D-A in ALL instruments, and quarter notes, half notes, whole rests and quarter rests.Introduces your students to repeat signs, multiple rests, forte and piano dynamics. This trip starts in the key of D to G (no L2’s or 2nd fingers) and then back to the key of D.  Vln 2/vla begin arco and have one count to change to pizzicato. ‘Cello and bass begin pizzicato and also have one count to switch to arco. All parts return to arco at the end.  Dynamics used are: f, mf, cresc., and all bowing are marked. All parts need to be familiar with the G, D and A strings (the bass never shifts). Form is AABCAASuggested grade is:  .5/1 -end of a first full year.

Druantia is an eternal Mother Goddess and Queen of the Druids in ancient Celtic folklore. She was known as the protector of forests, and a patron of knowledge, creativity, passion, sex, and fertility of both plants and animals. She is often portrayed as a beautiful, red-headed, slender woman with elven features, draped in forest-green robes. As the protector of forests, she was also guardian of forest spirits and sprites. These spirits are said to inhabit trees, a belief that spans across many cultures, like the Kodoma in Japanese folklore. Druantia’s Dance, a pizzicato string orchestra piece, depicts a joyous ritual of Druantia and her forest spirits; they scurry through the forest, dancing together, while creating new life and blessing the plants and animals around them, aiding in their growth.

This work explores free performance and extended technique in the first movement, titled Fog. It takes advantages of many different sounds and colors that the viola can produce. Hailed by David Conte as rewarding for players and audiences, The City Muses On is a great addition to any recital as an exciting and impressive addition to the repertoire. His musical interests span far and wide from classical to classic rock, from world music to jazz, from musical theater to EDM. He began playing the piano at the age of 15 and his interest in musical performance and composition began. He graduated from Brigham Young University - Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho with a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Music Composition in 2014. He studied Composition with Darrell Brown, Piano with Stephen Thomas, and Conducting with Dallin Hansen. He currently attends the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he is receiving his Master of Music in Music Composition. He currently studies Composition with Elinor Armer. His music explores the extent to which tonality can be stretched and feature playful, artistic score layouts that result in a free-flowing form, often relying on the performer to interpret the result of the musical ideas. With the title of this composition, Fever Fantasy, Jörg Widmann refers to its musical air: ‘I often feel Robert Schumann‘s melodic shape to be like the amplitude of a temperature curve: nervous, flickering, feverish, an infinite number of small and large wave crests and troughs within the principal line.’ The composer approaches this sound phenomenon with a setting for acoustic instruments. Nevertheless, he succeeds in conjuring up very unusual sound spectrums. Over long sections, the notation of this score mirrors the musical progressions, containing no concrete pitches but detailed performance instructions instead. Slowly, individual tones emerge from ascending pizzicato lines, colourless sound surfaces, sounds of harmonics roughened by tremolos, and virtuoso clarinet scales, tones that do not reveal their origin until the work ends: C - F - E - D sharp, the beginning of Schumann’s first violin sonata.
