Originally recorded by Bobby Vinton, the song was twice recorded by Karen Carpenter, both as a solo act and as a member of the Carpenters. Between 1979 and 1980, Karen Carpenter went to New York to record a solo album with Phil Ramone as producer. Make Believe It's Your First Time was one of twenty songs recorded. This version was ultimately shelved until 1996, with the release of her eponymous album, Karen Carpenter. Karen's solo version is far more subdued with only a piano, bass and drums as her accompaniment. The Carpenters recorded a version of Make Believe It's Your First Time for their 1981 album Made in America. The song, like Karen's solo version, went unreleased in her lifetime and was not included on the album. After Karen's death in 1983, the song was placed on the Carpenters' next album, Voice of the Heart, and was released as a single. Richard Carpenter's arrangement uses far more instrumentation, adds a bridge written specifically for this version, key modulation during the last chorus, and the inclusion of background vocals.

This collection of six traditional Spirituals is taken from a larger set of eleven titled The Life of Christ In Spirituals which I wrote as a cantata for my church choir and guest soloists many years ago. Scripture passages were read before each Spiritual, providing the Biblical context. In this booklet a two page bulletin insert with lyrics and Scripture references is provided after the instrumental parts. The scenes depicted in these Spirituals include, among others, the raising of Lazarus, the healing of the sick, and Jesus’ restoration of Peter after the Resurrection. The final song, You Can Tell The World, is an encouragement to spread the good news about Jesus. One song has an obbligato part for clarinet or soprano saxophone, and one has a part for flute. The remaining five Spirituals are available in another collection titled Five Spirituals for Holy Week, focusing on the events between Palm Sunday and the Resurrection. By inserting those five Spirituals between the 3rd and 4th songs in this collection, the booklets can be combined to perform the set as originally conceived. The songs, however, can also stand alone. The titles are We Believe This Is Jesus, Honor, Honor Unto The Dying Lamb, Oh, He Raise A Poor Lazarus, You Hear The Lambs A-Cryin', Oh Glory! and You Can Tell The World About This. The performance of the first song, We Believe This Is Jesus, is by a youth choir. Please contact me for recordings of the other songs. It’s one of the songs of harvest off of my album entitled “Hymns of Autumnâ€, but doesn’t talk about harvest in the traditional sense we normally sing about these days.Not many talk about the judgement of God in today’s church, and this hymn will send chills down the spine of the most devout believer as we realize the full spectrum of God's character, including His wrath and power on Judgement Day. I found this in an old hymnal that was so old that the “Sâ€s were still written as “Fâ€s, and I had to squint to read it while learning to sing for this recording. Nessun dorma (English: None shall sleep) is an aria from act three of Turandot, and is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. Luciano Pavarotti made it one of his signature arias. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. This arrangement for saxophones can be played by either SATB or AATB quartet, with an optional Bass saxophone part which doubles the Baritone part. I would like to believe that Puccini would have approved of this adaptation of what is perhaps his most recognizable aria since the original orchestration for Turandot calls for a very large orchestra that includes two on-stage Alto Saxophones.
