History: The Father Sent the Son is the title song of a cantata I composed ten or so years ago for a church choir that could barely muster a men's section. They loved to sing. They rehearsed every Sunday afternoon between services and sang every Sunday morning for worship and often in the evenings. They loved the entire cantata and sang it with enthusiasm. Since that time other choirs have song the cantata, and I have added and subtracted and rewritten through the years. I wanted to get the entire cantata as close to perfection as possible before I published it, but I have decided to publish the portions I am most happy with piecemeal for the time being. When all portions are where I thing they should be, I will publish the entire cantata as one work. Lord willing, of course. Please let me know if you enjoy the music I write. The songs are arranged for beginning string orchestra (all first position), with additional parts for violin, viola and cello using open strings only. So you can play this with the accompaniment and any combination of parts. If there are no violists, or if the cello part is too hard for your students, you can play the songs with the accompaniment, and it will sound fine. In fact, I have performed this piece with the violin open string parts only, along with the accompaniment. Please do not make copies of this. I know your project is underbudgeted and you are underpaid, and the photocopier is right down the hall. But this is my livelihood. So please, please, please, buy as many copies as you need. This is a great arrangement for a budding SSA choir or a 2-part choir that wants to try something with a little more challenge.The Ella Fitzgerald solo (which I will link) is one of the best vocal improvisations of the era. The introduction on the recording is not featured here. You will only need two copies of each rhythm section part (one for the performer, one for the director) and 10 copies of your SSA charts for your students.If you would like a perpetual license for your school (so you don't have to buy more copies since that option isn't available at Hal Leonard).
