Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,English Horn,Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1419166 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Daniel Kaplan. Baroque,Chamber,Classical. 33 pages. Daniel Kaplan #1000598. Published by Daniel Kaplan (A0.1419166). Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 24 in B minor from Book 1 of The Well Tempered Clavier. The prelude is in an unusual (for a Bach prelude) binary form. The fugue is remarkably chromatic and complex, based on a subject employing all 12 notes of the chromatic scale (prefiguring Schoenberg's 12-tone system, to come two centuries later!). Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also available on this website). The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.

Debussy: Piano Preludes Bk.2 No.5 Bruyères (Heather) - symphonic wind dectetArranged double wind quintet/bassDebussy's Préludes are 24 pieces for solo piano, divided into two books of 12 preludes each. Unlike some notable collections of preludes from prior times, such as Chopin's Op. 28 preludes, or the preludes from Johann Sebastian Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Debussy's do not follow a strict pattern of tonal centres. This is from the 2nd Book.I have arranged all of these preludes from both books:Book 1Danseuses de DelphesVoilesLes sons et le parfums…..Des pas sur le neige La fille aux cheveux de linLa Cathédral engloutieMinstrelsBk.2BruyèresGeneral LevineHommage à S.Pickwick EsqCanopeAs if by magic, we are transported to heather covered V it shows that this shepherd is a distant cousin of ‘la fille heathland with a piece much reminiscent of la Fille aux cheveux de lin’. The same calm, the same purityaux Cheveux de Lin from book one. Nature and innocence demand a spontaneous and laidback approach to those delicate and poetic riffs to match the colour and aroma of fragrant purple shrubs. Birds may be heard calling, accompanied by the distant refrain of a shepherd’s flute in this harmonious and homogeneous prelude — an admirable contrast to numbers IV and VI.In direct connection with this prelude, Marguerite Long mentions a Debussy souvenir pairing the scent of sea mist and coastal pines, and if she is correct this would take us to Arcachon in south west France. It is possible that the young composer first went there in 1880 with the baroness Nadejda Von Meck and later in 1904 when he stayed with the uncle of Emma Bardac (neÌe Moyse), his future bride. The pastoral and familiar poetry of a woodland scene where the earth’s pervasive scent mingles with the subdued display of patches in purple.— CortotA peaceful melody on a shepherd's pipe, resonating on the silent moorland. With its Celtic pentatonic structureand the same diatonic transparency, time-signature and tempo provide a clear link.— Harry Halbreich

The entire piece unfolds in a hieratic, strangely distant atmosphere, engendering a sensation of infinite solitude reinforced by a cadence that is not an ending — we remain suspended in the void. Once again, Debussy has fused space and time.— Harry HalbreichThe meditative and gentle lines of this piece have the nobility and the stately form of the antique funerary urn* which serves as a symbol. * A Canopic Jar: used in sets of four by the ancient Egyptians as containers for the internal organs of embalmed bodies.I have arranged all of these preludes from both books:Book 1Danseuses de DelphesVoilesLes sons et le parfums…..Des pas sur le neige La fille aux cheveux de linLa Cathédral engloutieMinstrelsBk.2BruyèresGeneral LevineHommage à S.Pickwick EsqCanope

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1148922 By Johann Sebastian Bach and VÃkingur Ólafsson. By Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Baroque,Classical,Contest,Easter,Festival,Instructional. Score. 8 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #749054. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.1148922). Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 855, is the 10th prelude and fugue for keyboard (harpsichord) in the first book of The Well Tempered Clavier, composed in 1722 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The Prelude in E minor, BWV 855a, features as No. 18 (Praeludium 5) in the 1720 Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. BWV 855a may also refer to both this Prelude and a Fughetta in the same key, an early version of BWV 855. Ólafsson teamed up with director Magnús Leifsson to shoot the video in a fish processing plant in Iceland, complete with grand piano. They use the fish, an early Christian symbol, to allude to the mysticism and timelessness of Bach’s music – as changeable as water, it has to be understood at a metalevel, given the many different ways in which composition, transcription and performance can be interwoven. Everything is there in Bach’s music, says the pianist, who transports the composer’s keyboard writing to new shores on his latest recording. Icelandic pianist VÃkingur Ólafsson releases video featuring music from his new album, Johann Sebastian Bach.Advanced Intermediate Format: Concert, 9 x 12 inches 8 pagesPLUS: Engraved and Published with Urtext Kapellmeister Music Fonts.

The voices in the prelude and fugue are carefully arranged and assigned to each of the 4 instruments to suit their range and tone colour, without sacrificing the style and the tone of Baroque music and the voice of Bach. All the tempo and dynamics in the full score and parts are optional - they are just suggestions from the arranger, and the composer himself did not provide much tempo indications and dynamics either, so it is up to the players to find their own voice and dynamics to suit their own needs.

Flute,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549353 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3490009. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549353). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Flute & Piano -S0.661745. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance with minimal page turns for the accompanist. The duration with repeat is about 4:50. Score: 6 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Instrumental Solo,Piano,Piccolo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549362 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and individual part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3490121. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549362). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Piccolo & Piano - S0.661869. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as a court composer. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.
