Duration: 3 - 4 min., Score 13 pp. Description: (According to the composer) Fugal Fantasy on I K is a musical dedication to my deceased father and to my children. Exploring the rhythmic possibilities of the Morse code, I tried to create a musical pun. The I K that is the rhythmic subject of the piece (dot-dot, dash-dot-dash) is not just my signature in musical cryptograph, but more meaningfully the initials of Igor Korneitchouk Senior, who musically makes an appearance in the middle of the piece as the double augmentation of the initial subject, a tri-tone away, high in the flute. Consequently, the initial fugal subject and answer of the opening, and reprised at the end, represent my own twin children. Along the development from grand children to grandpère is the theme in plain augmentation, the composer, myself.

It is important to recognize the original tune as it reoccurs in other voices. The Fantasia seems to sound well at a stately.

I used a 3 note motif that plays forward and in reverse, alternating between Major and minor in rapid succession, giving a mood of both light and dark, like the sun on a hot day, rippling in a heat wave, cooling off in the shade, happy times on vacation at the beach, and hot summer nights all in one piece. It is a summer fantasy story in music.

The Etherea Suite, Volume 1 is for intermediate to advanced players who enjoy lyrical, exciting, and showy repertoire, while expressing their imagination through their playing. Players get to musically explore the mountains, the desert, volcanoes, time travel to ancient times, and fight in battle! Volume I of the suite represents three main characters from the sci-fi, fantasy book Trials of the Innermost (release date May 26, 2023). Each movement has a distinct feel and reflects each character's personality. This edition features performance notes written by the composer, including musical elements unique to each movement, fun facts, and personal influences JohnWillard had in mind when creating the work. A graphic of the musical cryptogram system used to make the melodies for each character is featured at the end of the notes. The three movements imitate a sonata, with the overall order of the suite is slow, slow, fast. Some teaching elements in the first movement I. Vayriel: Protector of the Mountains, include: scalar passages (A natural minor scale), shifting hands position, rolled chords, repeated left hand patterns, ornaments, and pedaling. II. Zinvar: Peacemaker of the Volcanic Rifts is more challenging, but has more room for musicality, expression, exploring different touches on the piano, and ethereal use of pedaling, like the sostenuto pedal (if you have one!) The movement opens with a mysterious, wave-like arpeggiated left hand pattern, similar to pieces of Chopin or Rachmaninoff. The B section is practice in using the sostenuto (middle) pedal while playing softly, imitating Gregorian Chant. Best of all the ending sounds harder than it actually is and you get to play as loud as possible! III. Idrilia: Warrior of the Desert is fast paced, rhythmic, and inspired by video games. This piece is a nice supplement for students learning techniques found in toccatas, nocturnes, and pieces that require a big, full sound. The longest and most advanced movement, players can enjoy using all the things: pedaling, accents, quick changes in dynamic contrast, and a lyrical B section. Technique requires comfort with arpeggios, chord inversions, octaves, and sensitivity to voicing. Once mastered, this movement can be both fun to play as a stand-alone recital piece or an exciting treat to play for friends and family. You'll find yourself humming the simple melody as it transforms throughout the work, and the ending is a chance to play big chords by using the full range of the keyboard.

Published by Rui Namora (A0.920983). Karel Arnoldus Craeyvanger (Utrecht, 1817-1868) was a Dutch composer, singer, violinist and guitarist. Only two of his guitar compositions are known to date, the Trois Nocturnes and the Introduction & Variations sur un thème de l’ópera Freischütz (Weber). One third piece, Fantasy on a Schubert’s Lied, mentioned in a recital program in 1865, remains unknown.The Trois Nocturnes, composed and dedicated to Monsieur J. de Beyer, were published by Craeyvanger himself. Perhaps for this reason, the graphic quality of the original edition is poor, with some mistakes and inconsistencies.The minor mistakes were corrected and all fingerings are editorial. The 8vb marks, intended for guitar with additional basses are not original and therefore, optional.

A parody of music hall clichés, it was conceived as a choreographic stage work and by modern standards can be considered a ballet.Satie gave it the whimsical subtitle fantaisie sérieuse (A Serious Fantasy). It was premiered at the Théâtre du Colisée in Paris on June 14, 1921, conducted by Vladimir Golschmann. The composer later arranged it for piano four hands.Satie composed this set of solo dances between July and October 1920. It was a high-spirited throwback to his turn-of-the-century cabaret idiom after a brief serious period that had produced the cantata Socrate (1918) and the piano Nocturnes (1919).
