Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.871133 By Billy Joel. By Billy Joel. Arranged by Austin Kitchell. Pop,Rock. Score. 7 pages. Austin Kitchell #4841213. Published by Austin Kitchell (A0.871133). This arrangement came about because I was disgruntled at how NOT-ragtime (for lack of better words) most piano solo versions of this song were. I eventually got sick of this and wrote this arrangement. I also added the key change because of one recording I heard of Billy Joel playing this piece, except he played it really slow, and then sped up the recording before posting it, but in doing so, the whole song went up a half step. I liked how it sounded in that key, so I implemented it halfway through this arrangement. It does make the 2nd half quite a bit harder, but as they say, you can't have everything in life.Other than that, I hope you enjoy this song. It's a lot of fun.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1273465 Composed by Arthur Hammerstein and Dudley Wilkinson. Arranged by Dave Gingras and John E. Dosher. Film/TV,Jazz. Score. 2 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #865604. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1273465). Because of You is a popular song written by Arthur Hammerstein and Dudley Wilkinson in 1940. A 1951 recording by Tony Bennett was his first major hit, reaching number one on the Billboard charts and staying there for 10 weeks. Due to its importance in establishing his fame, he continued to perform the song for the rest of his career, even singing it at his final concert performances 70 years after its release. It was one of the last songs rehearsed at his piano before he died. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills for your listening (playing?) pleasure - we hope you like what we've done to make this Tony Bennett ballad unique.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1006443 Composed by David Jaedyn Conley. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. 14 pages. Mydnyte Publishing #2016307. Published by Mydnyte Publishing (A0.1006443). A Prayer for Harmonic Convergence is a musical meditation for Soprano Sax, B Flat Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. It is written in free time, and is more of an exercise in vertical development versus horizontal. A degree of tonal indeterminacy is implied and demanded, as the nature of the instruments that it was written for requires the player to make adjustments of their embouchure in order to keep the pitch in tune with the other lines. In a piece where a note which acts as a third suddenly finds itself acting as a fifth or a root means that slight variations of intonation is inevitable. This is a desired effect. Slight overtones from the instruments are meant to combine and mingle. Occasionally the overtones converge and cause the sinusoidal waveform to beat at different frequencies. There is no way to predict how and when the phenomena will happen, and therefore there is no real way to perform this piece the same way twice. While the performer should take care to keep their intonation complimentary to the other players, a degree of latitude is intended so that the performer may experiment with this concept. It is suggested that the players perform from the score so as to anticipate the entrances and exits of the other performers.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.970731 Composed by Mike Strand. Contemporary,Jazz,World. Score and parts. 36 pages. Michael M. Strand #4837117. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970731). By Mike Strand, ASCAP I wrote this String Quartet in a composition class at the College of William and Mary in 2010. It is brief and rich with variety, and it involves a technique of mine called fracturing (see note* below). This causes the dissonance you'll hear in parts of this work.On one occasion, when I felt stressed, I enjoyed listening to Morton Feldman's String Quartet II (1983), which lasts about 6 hours. This quiet but lovely music soothed and pacified me. On the other hand, if you want something to energize and alert you in less than 11 minutes, this quartet may be for you -- whenever you acquire a recording of it by some lucky quartet ensemble. Have a cup of coffee with it, for insurance! In the meantime, enjoy the audio sample, Movement I of my quartet. This alone may suffice to get you going, in only two and a half minutes. String Quartet - William and Mary: Four movements, total time 10:45: I. Allegro moderato (2:32) A tango-like dance movement: Preface, Introduction, A, B, A’, C, Coda (two variations). II. Lento (2:44) Counting to twenty in 5-4, 4-4, and 12-8 time. 5-4 time predominates (five groups of four measures each), then 4-4 (two groups of five measures each) and 12-8 (one group of five measures). Throughout there are 72 counts per minute, with quarter notes counted in the 5-4 and 4-4 time signatures, and with dotted quarter notes counted in the 12-8 time signature. The five measures of 12-8 also introduce the theme for movement III.Fun with three different time signatures! III. Allegro (2:11) Variations on a Scottish-like folk tune and fragments of it. One variation is an example of tonal pointillism. The closing measures are an extended coda based on a transformed version of the original tune. IV. Swing (3:18) West Coast swing tempo for the Introduction and Part A; triple swing tempo for Part B. Note* on the fracturing technique This is my method to produce systematically new types of dissonance and corresponding modifications and resolutions. Fracturing consists of changing pitches in a melody or chord as follows: (a) Decide on the root note position within the staff or line of music. (b) Represent the applicable chord in half-step notation, with the root given the value 0. (c) Alternatively subtract and add a prescribed number of half steps from, and to, each successive number in the annotated chord (except for the root). (d) Use the new fractured annotation to define the new pitches. The actual or implied root of the chord (tonal center) remains unchanged. The resulting new chord or melody is thus related or resolvable to the parent tonal harmony or chord. Fracturing appears mainly in the first and third movements, with spare use in the second and fourth movements.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.862594 Composed by Michael Bomier. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional,New Age. Score. 5 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #443027. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862594). 2015 Piano Contest The tritonic scale has been in use since the days of Chopin, who used it in several of his etudes. Beethoven also used it in his final sonata Arietta movement. It consists of the root, a 4th up, and the 5th from the root as well, making it feel like a note, the next note up a 4th, followed by another whole-step up, and then the root again. It is such a versatile structure because not only can it stand on its own, but has lots of combinatorial possibilities with other tritonic scales, simultaneously. This piece explores some of those combinations. It also adds an element of contrary motion, in that, as the right-hand scale rises, the left-hand scale descends, in terms of the starting pitches. This makes for the colour shifts that are the piece's namesake and hallmark. So, after a brief octave introduction, the tritonics take off, and show their colours in combination. It is the only structure present in the piece. Thus the dynamics and accents give the piece additional contrasts in mood and flavor. An Intermediate piece, since the one structure can be easily mastered. Pedaling throughout, except for staccato passages. Can work at various tempi. MP3 MIDI audio. MBB.

Pagliuca-Mena. Jazz. Score and Parts. 46 pages. Soundnotation #4251133750706. Published by Soundnotation (2S.4251133750706). La Cabra Mocha (Full Score) is a Gaita de Furro. Because it belongs to the folklore of Zulia, its origin remains unclear and a dispute over the authorship of the composition currently revolves around Pradelio Hernandez and Jesus Lozano. Although its date of origin is considered equally indefinable for the same reason, its official appearance can be narrowed down to the middle of the 20th century. Probably it's much older, but due to the technological improvements of music recording, the piece became popular only later. La Cabra Mocha is a musical jewel that tells the story of a nation who has a wisdom and finds in music the way to express itself. The history of its transculturation is remarkable, although it also carries contradictions, depending on the way of representing. Sometimes its imposed stereotypes are accepted by society due to a lack of self-knowledge, which ultimately leads to a change of identity, where some elements are transfigured and others are replaced. Arranging a Gaita de Furro for youth orchestra makes sense for the following reasons: First and foremost, the self-knowledge of a society should start from the childhood and should be cultivated and carried on from generation to generation, thereby conserved. Moreover, a lack of a pedagogical act, thus a pedagogical repertoire, is one of the main causes for the ignorance of Venezuelan music. Another important aspect is the transformation or adaptation as a process of maintaining Venezuelan musical culture. Many children already present the intention of the composition by drawing their attention to the formation of the orchestra, which represents a globally unified language as a network of distribution and which is locally independent. Wherever the composition is played - each orchestra will be able to maintain the quality and expressiveness of the piece without hiding its identity. The piece opens with a fanfare introduction of the Cabra Mocha, followed by a drum roll, which reminds of the drummer's traditional reputation and introduces the theme whose chorus is represented by the tutti and its verses by the soli. The first variation consists of a two-bar rhythm and major tonality, full of wit and cunning. The following variation is an Adagio with a three-part rhythm in minor. Then the timpani return to initiate the theme, this time shortened by its Reprise, which finally leads to a polyphonic Codetta. On an interpretative level, the return of variation can be compared with the return of education and thus, to a certain extent, improvisation. This is a very striking factor of traditional music, which is represented as a fitting metaphor in the form of harmonic and rhythmic reference within the composition. Introduccion, Tema y Variaciones sobre la Cabra Mocha was composed in the last weeks of 2012 and won the first prize in the composition competition for the Youth Orchestra of Zulia, which was awarded by the Venezuelan Orchestra in its first edition in 2013. At the beginning of 2014 Silvano Pagliuca-Mena made a small revision of the piece. Silvano Antonio Pagliuca Mena was born on 10 May 1991 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Despite his Italian and Spanish roots, he has always remained true to his love for the music of his homeland, which is why his compositions always carry Venezuelan impressions, but also influences like academic western music, jazz and popular music.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1039781 Composed by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by David Lee Gingras and John E. Dosher. Broadway,Jazz,Musical/Show. Score. 3 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #644623. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1039781). Falling in Love with Love is a show tune from the Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse, where it was introduced by Muriel Angelus. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1938. The song is set to a waltz, but the lyrics remind his [Hart's] listeners of the show's skeptical tone. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements, but because of its descending chromatic structure, we have at times deviated slightly from the chord root. It's not too hard and fun to play - we hope you like it!

Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Sacred. 34 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #6212881. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818339). The LORD is in His Holy Temple with I Surrender All arranged for violin and piano by Stephen R Dalrymple performed by Jim Jansen and Stephen R Dalrympletranscribed for flute, clarinet, trumpet, emphonium/trombone and cello  The Lord is in His Holy Temple by George F. Root 1872 tune – QUAM DILECTA based on Habakkuk 2:19-20  I Surrender All lyrics - Judson W. VanDeVenter 1896 melody - Winfield S. Weeden 1896     The context of the song The LORD is in His Holy Temple is often overlooked in singing this song. Worship in the OT is a rather noisy affair with instruments, singing, shouting, dancing, and public praise. In the Old Testament, quiet in the Temple of God is an ominous, frightening thing, because God’s judgment is to be pronounced! I Surrender All is paired here with The LORD is in His Holy Temple thinking back to Isaiah 6 where Isaiah’s reaction to encountering the presence of God is surrender to Him. Yielding to God is, not only the prerequisite for avoiding God’s judgment, it is the path to peace and joy.     Without the doublestops of the violin part, the wind parts may not seem very challenging at first sight, but to play a beautiful legato with a full tone at piano and pianissimo (slowly, too) is much harder than it sounds. The phrasing and the intensity of the music is critical to the message of the piece. It will take considerable attention between the soloist and the pianist to communicate the moody rubato basic to the best performance of the arrangement.     This .pdf includes 14 score choices ♫ Full Score for violin and piano letter size ♫ Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Trumpet, Euphonium (or trombone), Violin, and Cello solo parts, ♫ Full Score for violin and small page format for performing from a 10 inch tablet and ♫ the same solo parts for 10 inch tablet. tablet (Tell your computer which pages you want to print. Piano Solo - Level 2 - SKU: A0.836102 By Whitney Houston. By Michael Masser. Arranged by Ben M. Noynay. Contemporary,Pop. Score. 4 pages. Ben M. Noynay #3859703. Published by Ben M. Noynay (A0.836102). This is a very simple arrangement using the two-part system of playing piano. In a two-part system, the treble staff has the melody of the song to be played by the right hand, and the bass staff has the simple tonic triad chords with progressions from root position to first inversion to second inversion, and of course, to be played by the left hand. This arrangement will suit early intermediate students/players simple because it's in the original published key of A Major. However, beginner students/players will also find this arrangement easy to learn because the left hand chords are designed with very simple fingering assignments. Enjoy playing. .

DAVID LEE GINGRAS #1065006. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1488127). This Can't Be Love is a show tune and a popular song from the 1938 Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse when it was sung by Eddie Albert and Marcy Westcott. The lyrics poke fun at the common depiction of love in popular songs as a host of malignant symptoms, saying, This can't be love because I feel so well. This version was developed from a lead sheet and was simplified so that someone with average ability can play it and sound good doing so. We added root-based chord blocking and a few left-hand fills for rhythm - we hope you like what we've done with this grand old tune!

Published by Tracy Dean McCallum (A0.1471949). https://tracymccallum.com Spy Plane: A Groovy Bass Odyssey Strap on your headphones and prepare for takeoff, because this bass transcription of Spy Plane is about to take you on a funky, high-altitude mission. The groove is undeniably cool, a blend of tight pocket playing and adventurous improvisation. Gear Up: The bass line lays down a solid foundation with a picked eighth-note pattern. Imagine a sleek spy plane cruising steadily at altitude. The root notes likely shift between the E and A strings, outlining the chords with a focus on the lower register. Think of it as the pilot navigating through different airspaces. Throughout the song, there are gonna be some syncopated accents thrown in. These are like the plane making sharp maneuvers, adding surprise and a touch of swagger to the groove. Into the Danger Zone: As the song progresses, the bass line breaks free from the simple pattern. Get ready for some walking bass lines that weave through the chords, creating a sense of urgency and intrigue. Think of the pilot dodging enemy radar or chasing a target through a maze of clouds. Lock On! The coolest part of the transcription might be the use of effects. A touch of wah-wah can simulate the plane breaking the sound barrier, while some octaver adds a growling, mechanical feel, like the whirring of powerful engines. Mission Complete: The ending brings the bass line back to earth with a flourish. Perhaps a descending chromatic line to depict the plane landing safely, or a series of funky slides for a more playful touch. This is just a roadmap, pilot! Feel free to add your own improvisational flourishes, double stops to mimic dogfights, or slap techniques for some extra punch. The sky's the limit (or rather, the atmosphere) with this Spy Plane bass transcription. Ready to take flight? Grab your bass and get groovin'!

It was written primarily by John Lennon with structural contributions from Paul McCartney, and credited to Lennon–McCartney. George Martin contributed the piano solo bridge. According to Lennon, In My Life was his first real major piece of work because it was the first time he wrote about his own life. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements - we hope you like what we've done with this classic Beatles tune!

This version features a root-based chord-blocking technique that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. Chord-blocking in the right hand is very subdued because of the strong melody of this classic song. We hope you like it!

Guitar,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1371176 Composed by Emiliano Brunetti. Chamber,Contemporary. Score and part. 12 pages. Emiliano Brunetti #955426. Published by Emiliano Brunetti (A0.1371176). Spandex-Hendrix is a celebration of both my origins as a performing musician and who I am now as a composer. I used to be ashamed of not being classically trained since my childhood – but now I celebrate those experiences by embracing and celebrating my culture and influences. Spandex-Hendrix serves as a portrait to my teenage years, being able to enjoy from the loudest version of Voodoo Child (Hendrix) to the magical experience of Because (Beatles). This piece is my first attempt to explore atonality through the use of the pitch class set theory. I took the Hendrix Chord (C – E – Bb – Eb), inverted its direction starting from the same root (A – D – Ab – C) and mixed the result in a new scale (C – D – Eb – E – Ab – A – Bb).

The Windmills of Your Mind is a song with music by French composer Michel Legrand and English lyrics written by Americans Alan and Marilyn Bergman. The French lyrics, under the title Les Moulins de mon cœur, were written by Eddy Marnay. A single by Noel Harrison from the album The Thomas Crown Affair was released in 1968. The song (with the English lyrics) was introduced in the film The Thomas Crown Affair in 1968 and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We kept the left-hand very simple because the strong melody carries this song quite well. We hope you like what we've done with the song!

You can close your eyes James TaylorLearn this classic James Taylor song and master his characteristic finger picking guitar technique. You will learn: 4/4 Fingerpicking rhythm patterns that you can use in many other songs and other genres.Popular and widely used great guitar chord inversions (also sometimes called slash chords, e.g. G/B )to create interesting bass lines that complement the melody of the tune and give direction and forward momentum to the song’s chord progression. Bass driven chord progressions are a characteristic feature of accomplished guitarists like James Taylor and Chet Atkins.‘Clawhammer’ technique or ‘Travis picking’ are the names often given to a style of playing four bass notes to the bar (usually alternating from root to fifth of the chord played with the R.H.thumb). If you listen to the great country guitarist Chet Atkins you will hear this ‘clawhammer’ style in most of his guitar arrangements.Useful hammer-ons/pull-offs and passing notes that will improve your technique and add a professional touch to enhance your guitar performances. See bar for 8 hammer on the A sus chord and also on the B minor in bar 32. Note the pull off on G chord in bar 11.Intro and outro sections are included in this James Taylor guitar arrangement of ‘You can close your eyes’Most songs have intros and outros so that the singer can get the tempo and start in the right key. However, many published arrangements often just start on a pick-up note or two on the last beat of the bar with no chord indicated and end the song on a chord that is not the tonic or main key chord that tells the listener the song has ended. ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’ by John Denver is a good example. In the key of ‘D’ the song starts with the notes ‘C#’ and ‘E’ and then the first bar is indicated as ‘D’ major chord. If you start the song playing a ‘D’ chord you will most likely sing the wrong notes because ‘C#’ and ‘E’ belong to the A7 chord of the song. So a simple 2 bar intro of ‘D’ , A7 (start singing on the last beat) and back to ‘D’ would help the singer to get the tempo and sing the correct pick-up notes. The printed sheet music of ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’ ends on an ‘A7’ chord of the chorus and as such does not indicate that the end chord should be ‘D’. So it is not always safe to assume that the end chord in printed music indicates the key of the song. Lyrics with chord symbols to show when to change chords. Matching the fingerpicking tab or sheet music to the lyrics can sometimes prove difficult so I have included a lyrics sheet of ‘You can close your eyes’ with chord symbols. This is a very popular format to give an indication when to change chords. However, the drawback is that there is no way of knowing how long each chord lasts as the bar structure is missing. But once you learn the bar structure from the sheet music or tab part you will find this Lyrics and chords sheet of ‘You can close your eyes’ your go to page for performing the song until you know it from memory.Downloads available Include:Score Tab Chords Lyrics For GuitarNotes Chords Lyrics For GuitarTab Chords Lyrics For GuitarIf you like or buy this arrangement it helps if you leave even a brief review- two words( very good) or even better one word (Awesome) :)Contact me at info@guitarlessonsdundrum.com
