Cited by the International Trumpet Guild Journal as a great introduction to the world of atonal music, Intermediate Serial Studies for Trumpet bridges the gap between tonal music and more difficult atonal literature with 20 short twelve-tone studies set primarily in the middle and lower registers. Settings vary from lyrical to marcato and tempos range from adagio to allegro. Using serial twelve-tone technique, each study's tone row is used only in original and retrograde (reversed) forms. Interval review in the studies begins with seconds and gradually expands to focus on thirds, fourths, tritones, fifths, sixths and sevenths. While 14 different time signatures are presented, beat subdivisions are not complex to facilitate precise rhythmic execution. Seven Preludes and Seven Fugues based on the codes D.F.G Dedicated to American Concert pianist Beth Levin These preludes use the number codes developed over 40 years of compositional output. Duration of the complete set 22 minutes. Since 1980 I have used various music codes within the structures of my music. These preludes and fugues are based on the D.F.G. codes related to number series. They are not serial but move through various tonal centres creating a variety and vibrancy of piano sonority. They are dedicated to American concert pianist Beth Levin as a thank you for her premiere with Mezzo Soprano Emiley Howard of my Housman settings for Mezzo Soprano and Piano in 2011 They are the first volume of a series of four volumes of Preludes and Fugues on the DFG codes planned for 2014-15. This first volume starts with an easy prelude and fugue to range through to a virtuoso conclusion with the seventh prelude and fugue.

Published by Roger Aldridge (A0.979671). Baltimore Rowhouse (for jazz soloist, 5 wind instruments, and rhythm section) is an extended piece with dramatic changes in mood and style. It begins as a ballad featuring alto sax, suddenly shifts to rock-fusion guitar, and finally has a film noir flavor. Serial techniques are used in subtle ways throughout the score and provide compositional structure. The piece strikes a balance between notation and improvisational freedom for both the soloists and the ensemble musicians. The score was originally conceived for woodwind quintet (with alto flute). Alternate parts are provided for an assortment of commonly-used wind instruments. In this way, the piece can be performed by many combinations of instruments. As another possibility, two (or more) musicians can be used on each wind instrument part. This option of having doubled parts -- with either same or different instruments on a part -- is an easy way for larger ensembles to perform this music. The figure of a whole-step and a minor third was the favorite tone-row motif for Anton Webern, a cell such as C-D-Eb, for instance. This piece does NOT have a serial sound, but uses this same configuration of tones, in its close form as the melody, and an with an open, inverted form as the accompaniment. Eventually both hands play both figures. The finale uses the same single tone anchoring device from the opening accompaniment, but in a majestic block chord sequence. The aim of this entire series has been to create as many varied kinds of music with as little variation in the musical materials as possible, all the while giving the pianist some specific technical and artistic demands to meet. Work written in 2018 a thesis for composer's postgraduate studies in Musical Department of Ionian University (Composition for Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles). It is based on the, under the same title ('Premonition'), poem by the 19th century British-Canadian poet Robert William Service (1874 - 1958). Point of departure is the eternal conflict between light and darkness, hope and despair, vision and nightmare, spiritual formation and inner confusion, being together and being apart, past and future, life and death. Leading by love (eros), a series of sudden thoughts and premonitions and the composer's inner visions on Service's text is a vehicle, a canvas for this composition. It follows a multilanguage style between serial-atonal and tonal idiom. It consists of an introduction which is repeated variated at the end as an epilogue and nine variations, each of a different character - independent but following one another without a pause: 1. In the first of the movements, Fibonacci's series is present in the notes' sequence that forms the series of 16 sounds and it is going to be present throughout the whole work. This series is taking form along the movement and it is getting melody and harmony.Although it is far away from the sonata form, as we know it in its period of highest glory, it takes elements of it and updates to our days. In this movement, we can find sonata form elements as the exposition, development, transitions or coda.The central part of the first movement becomes in the slow movement, being more intimate and lyrical, free of the serials ties although it uses resources before cited -now called common practice-.The movement finish with a short re-exposition that concludes with the virtuosic of the soloist doubling the series and adding more tension until conforming the series in its full whole.II. Weak ForcesIt is the most tribal of both movements. Its structure is more complex and in it, we also can find clear reminiscences to the sonata form.We can divide the movement into two big blocks. The first one is formed for the introduction and sections one and two.IntroducciónIt is based in one ostinato of three notes where the accent is changing provoking unsymmetric, this ostinato represents the nucleus of our existence. The piccolo and the trombone introduce us to the human element representing the two elements that form the development of the whole movement.The two elements of thematics are taken from the series, the first one is easily recognizable because it appears in his primary form.First section & cadenzaIn this movement, the rhythm, the melody, and the harmony are based on the sequence of Fibonacci. The first in a series of solo piano works inspired by scenes from literature, The Infernal Whirlwind is both a representation of and reaction to Canto V in Dante's Inferno. Dante and his guide Virgil enter the second level of Hell, where the souls of people who gave into lust are condemned. At first Dante hears but a faint sound of commotion, but upon fully entering the level he encounters a massive tempest of souls being buffeted about. He recognizes some famous figures here and there. Eventually, his attention is drawn to two figures, the primary one being Francesca da Rimini. She tells of how, after reading of Sir Lancelot, she and her brother-in-law allowed themselves to love each other. Dante, deeply moved by the pathos of Francesca's story and disturbed by the continuous whirlwind, faints.Composers such as Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky have been inspired by Francesca da Rimini specifically, but The Infernal Whirlwind is more concerned with what the whirlwind itself represents: the control lust and desire held on these souls, both while living and in the afterlife. The central theme is a twelve-tone row, but the work is not truly serialist in construction or conception: It rather represents the winding, ranging, unsettled nature of passion itself, and of the whirlwind.The piece lasts about 5 minutes, and is for an advanced player. In the beginning it requires use of all three pedals (una corda, sostenuto, sustain). Perhaps the main influence is Liszt, and one could find useful a Lisztian approach to performance. .
