We commissioned new works and created conceptual performances to go with them to illustrate certain articles found in the declaration.This was also a year where we toured extensively abroad. One such tour took us to France, where our concerts were held in churches and cathedrals. To create a contrast to our more austere modern pieces, I also added material based on Gregorian themes that originated in France, and that had always fascinated me. Kyrie is one of the pieces that premiered this year. – Sofia Söderberg.

The arrangement was originally written for the male choir Svanholm Singers, which is conducted by Sofia Soderberg. The male voice version has order no. 1279. Sofia Soderberg (former Eberhard) (b. 1972) has been the choral master at Malmo Opera and leads the new Malmo Live Vocal Ensemble besides the well established and internationally renowned Svanholm Singers.

Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1406). 8.27 x 11.7 inches.Music based on Gregorian themes.In the autumn of 2015, Malmo Live Vokalensemble performed Thierry Machuel's Paroles contre l'oubli - words against oblivion. In a large-scale art project, prisoners serving a life sentence at the Clairvaux high-security prison in north-eastern France were interviewed by the composer, who set their stories to music. The piece is incredibly dark, coloured by the innermost thoughts of individuals who know they will never again be free, people who are slipping into oblivion. Clairvaux wasn't always a prison, though - it was formerly an important monastery. Established by St. Bernhard in 1115 and closed in connection with the French Revolution, Clairvaux is a mythic place. For some, it is an abbey where thousands of monks voluntarily chose the path of saints, plunging themselves into the blessed silence of darkness. For others, it is a prison, the sheer name of which inspires terror and generates horrific images. My intention was that we, with our concert, would create a bridge between the present and the past, between incarceration and voluntary solitude. So I sought out the historical sources for our earliest notated music, from the French abbey of Solemn, and composed a variety of versions based on Gregorian themes. One of the stops was the historic papal seat Avignon, in Provence. We shared the billing with the Swedish organist Hans Hellsten, and when he told us he would like to improvise on a Gregorian Ave Maria, I wrote a version on the same theme for the choir. In this way, the singers could present the melody Hans Hellsten would then be basing his improvisation on. - Sofia Soderberg.

But it is also a reminder of the increasingly apparent threats and challenges posed by climate change. The piece consists of three different musical and lyrical themes: Theme no. 1 is Harlig ar jorden, a beloved hymn sung in Scandinavia. The second theme consists of quotes from an acclaimed 1854 speech made by Chief Seattle to Governor Isaac Ingalls Stevens that I set to music, a compelling plea to respect the rights of indigenous peoples and a well-formulated reminder that human beings are a part of nature, they are not its masters. The third theme is a fragment from a Swedish funeral prayer. - Sofia Soderberg There is also a version for male voice choir.
