In Tudor or Jacobean music, a fantasy, sometimes spelled fantasie or even fancy is a musical piece for several voices that trade and repeat melodies and phrases. It is an early form of counterpoint. This Fantasy, the first of a set of nine was written in 1620. The original version was for three viols. This arrangement for three saxophones is in the original key of F major. It includes the following parts: Full saxophone trio score Part 1 for soprano sax Part 1 for alto sax Part 2 for alto sax Part 2 for tenor sax Part 3 for baritone sax Part 3 for tenor sax. This part could be played by bass sax as well. Performance time is about 3 minutes. Parts are very independent. The piece is rhthmically straightforward with a few syncopations, moderate tempo, and a convenient key signature. The Part 1 alto sax range is extensive. Moderate difficulty.

Pied Piper is a fantasy towards a theme, thus reversing the traditional theme and variations format. The work was composed specifically for children, in a music education context. The piece is in the manner of an improvisation on the German folk song concerned with the Pied Piper of Hamelin: Einmal zornig und Einmal leise (sometimes angrily and sometimes gently). The original folk melody is only stated shortly before the final coda. The work is highly accessible for the listener and is appropriate for more advanced oboists, including students and professional players. Pied Piper can even be used as a virtuosic encore piece.

Dance de Confusion Confluence is the name of a place in Lyon where 2 rivers flow together: The Saône flows into the - at least in German - female Rhone. In French, however, it flows into DEN Rhone - Le Rhône. This confuses the composer: How do rivers get their gender, are they sometimes male, sometimes female? Is it because of their character, because of the landscape that they flow through? By their water, even by their fish? On the people on their shores? A real confusion ensues. In the subsequent thoughts about music, the composer discovers certain analogies and asks himself the question: does gender-typical music actually exist? Or instruments? Typically male harmonies or rhythms? Or clearly female melodies and the way to interpret? The 3-movement composition is dedicated to this question and meanders like a dance in the bed of the converging streams. Colorful modal harmonies form the bed for wide arcs of melody. A varied, recurring theme sets the direction and creates a bubbling, dancing pull in the direction of the mouth: dancing finale! 1st movement: Deux Characters In the first movement (Andante) the roles are distributed - the Sâone and the Rhône get their performers. A first glance at the ensemble reveals a tendency: woodwinds take on the female lead, the male brass the counterpart. The two drummers each support one of the two poles in solidarity. The assignment may be obvious, but strong doubts remain in the final chord of the first movement. 2. Dialogues: In smaller and larger dialogues, there is a lively exchange and the properties are worked out and further developed. But it is also increasingly being copied and imitated, even maliciously agitated and aped. You try to convince each other, interrupt each other, both sides increasingly flare up, it gets louder and more hectic, louder and louder, too loud, until communication stops: in the end, you just yell at each other! 3. Dance de Confusion The resulting confusion finds a conciliatory end in the third movement of the composition: Let's dance! In summer 2001, Bertold Hummel composed the present work as a commission for the Asiago Festival and brought together in the grand dimensions of his 'Fantasy in one movement' - as he himself termed it - for the first time the instruments he had always loved much during his life. Asiago - the letters a-s-a-g, corresponding to the notes a, e-flat, a, g in the German musical scale, open and close the work - is a successful excursion into the complex sound combinations of percussion instruments and the mystical, sensuous tone of the violoncello, whereby the stringed instrument occasionally takes on a percussive role and the percussion is sometimes treated like a bowed. Driving rhythms pursue each other, alternating with meditative moments. Chorale fragments lead to a grand cadenza, in which the instrumentalists have the opportunity, following patterns provided, for free improvisation. The première of this work took place on 5th August, 2001 in the Duomo di S. Matteo in Asiago in northern Italy and was in the hands of Peter Sadlo and Julius Berger, who are amongst the most committed exponents of Bertold Hummel's works.Asiago is an effective examination of the wide range of possible tonal combinations between percussion instruments and the mystic and sensuous colouring of the violoncello, in which the string instrument is at times treated percussively and the percussion instruments in the manner of a string instrument. Furious rhythms alternate with meditative passages and choral fragments culminate in a large-scale cadenza in which the instrumentalists have the opportunity of free improvisation on the basis of specified models.

RAGING FURIES - Rasende FurienGoddesses of revenge - Göttinnenn der RageConcert Piece for big orchestra - Score and PartsThe image of the raging furies as a topos has permeated the world of thoughts and images of mankind for thousands of years and has inspired and fascinated countless artists.This idea is also based on an emotional background, a violent, uncontrolled emotional outburst, a rage (Latin: furor, in the sense of frenzy, passion and madness, French: rage). The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses.The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice). Already in antiquity they were depicted in sculptures, embossed on coins or immortalized as images on amphorae.They appear in all eras of fine arts, sometimes in female, male or androgynous form, e.g. as avenging angels, or as hybrid beings between humans and animals. Pictures by Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Bosch, Tizian, Peter Paul Rubens, William Hamilton, Johann Heinrich Fuessli, Franz von Stuck, Alfred Kubin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Yongbo Zhao and many others are proof of this.They found their way into the literature of Virgil (Aeneis), Dante (Divine Comedy) or John Milton (Paradise Lost). This remarkable history and reception inspired Rainer Fabich to create this new orchestral work from his MYThS series. PEGASUS - Ride on Wings, ULYSSES - Prélude to an Odyssey and THE AMONZS - Myth and Projection have already been released. As the title suggests, this is frantically wild music (Allegro molto vivace) that seems to run away, like an action film with fast motives and runs of strings and woodwinds, combined with strong accents of brass and massive percussion Set. Alternations of straight and asymmetrical beats illustrate erratic sequences of movement, as are typical of scenes with the highest intensity, especially in films (e.g. a chase). In the jazzy middle section, the furies calm down a little, before they pick up speed again in a bombastic third section and increase to the point of ecstasy.
