Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1313789 By Jeanni Gould. By Jeanni Gould. Arranged by Jeanni Gould. A Cappella,Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Jeanni Gould #902503. Published by Jeanni Gould (A0.1313789). A delightful vocal work for SATB AcappellaA modern madrigal, rich in harmonies and interwoven melody lines. The song builds to an almost surprising climax. Everyone loves that part. Lyrics from ancient scripture praises, yet suitable for sectarian performances as well.I love the powerful bass line rising up the scale halfway through the song. Every vocal part has a turn to shine in this piece. Excellent performance choice for church quartets or choirs, high school or college quartet or choirs, and madrigal or jazz vocal groups.Includes piano accompaniment for rehearsal only.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983164 Composed by Craig Wadley. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 52 pages. Wadley Publications #3043833. Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983164). This Brass Quintet won the 1996 Fine Arts Festival Music Award at Illinois State University, an international competition. Songs of the Warrior, a Brass Quintet in three movements, utilizes thematic material derived from a twelve-tone row, presented in three contrasting styles. While the piece stands on its own as absolute music following traditional formal structures, the titles of each movement do suggest a setting befitting the mood or atmosphere evoked by the music. I. The Cannon’s Mouth Following a slightly modified version of the classical sonata allegro form, this movement presents the thematic material in a freely atonal setting, Much use is made of variations of ancient two note war-horn calls, which would command soldiers to advance into direct combat with an enemy. II. Amidst the Fallen The second movement evokes images of the aftermath of battle and the horrors left on the field of war. Dynamic and rhythmic elements in the music produce a classic arch form. Melodic and harmonic structures are developed throughout the movement. III. Revelry A complete departure in style from the previous movements, Revelry features upbeat modal harmony and foot-tapping rhythms. Thematic material borrowed from the earlier movements is transformed to conform to the desired atmosphere. The form of the movement is best described as a hybrid rondo and variations. The light-hearted mood is perhaps a reflection of the joy found when a soldier returns to his home. This quintet presents three stylistically distinct movements, yet all are based on the same thematic sources. The first movement is somewhat cerebral and demands much virtuosity from the performers. The second is darker, with some almost lyrical melodic lines. The final movement is nothing if not bombastic. All-in-all, Songs of the Warrior provides a little something for everyone, from Berlioz to Schoenberg, with a little Bernstein on the side.

Five Songs for Soprano - Song-Cycle, Op. 14

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314982 Composed by William Kersten. Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. Score. 23 pages. William Kersten #903730. Published by William Kersten (A0.1314982). Inspired by the Victorian and Romantic poetry of Christina Rossetti, Anne Bronte, Thomas Hood and Thomas Beddoes, the Five songs form a cycle of joy, sadness, love, death and exultation.  The music is scored in two versions: Normal Vocal Range and Wide Vocal Range.1. A Birthday Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) My heart is like a singing bird Whose nest is in a watered shoot; My heart is like an apple-tree Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit; My heart is like a rainbow shell That paddles in a halcyon sea; My heart is gladder than all these Because my love is come to me. Raise me a dais of silk and down; Hang it with vair and purple dyes; Carve it in doves and pomegranates, And peacocks with a hundred eyes; Work it in gold and silver grapes, In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys; Because the birthday of my life Is come, my love is come to me. 2. Echo Christina RossettiCome to me in the silence of the night; Come in the speaking silence of a dream; Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright As sunlight on a stream; Come back in tears, Oh memory, hope, love of finished years. Oh dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet, Whose wakening should have been in Paradise, Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet; Where thirsting longing eyes Watch the slow door That opening, letting in, lets out no more. Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live My very life again though cold in death - Come back to me in dreams, that I may give Pulse for pulse, breath for breath: Speak low, lean low, As long ago, my love, how long ago. 3. There is dew...â€Thomas Hood (1799-1845)There is dew for the flowret And honey for the bee, And bowers for the wild bird, And love for you and me. There are tears for the many And pleasures for the few; But let the world pass on, dear, There's love for me and you. 4. We do lie beneath the grass...â€Thomas Beddoes (1803-1849) We do lie beneath the grass In the moonlight, in the shade Of the yew-tree. They that pass Hear us not. We are afraid They would envy our delight, in our graves by glow-worm night. Come follow us, and smile as we; We sail to the rock in the ancient waves, Where the snow falls by thousands into the sea, And the drowned and the shipwrecked have happy graves.  5. My soul is awakened...â€Â Anne Bronte (1820-1849)My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaring And carried aloft on the wings of the breeze, For above and around me the wild wind is roaring Arousing to rapture the earth and the seas. The long withered grass in the sunshine is glancing, The bare trees are tossing their branches on high, The dead leaves beneath them are merrily dancing The white clouds are scudding across the blue sky. I wish I could see how the ocean is lashing The foam of its billows to whirlwinds of spray, I wish I could see how its proud waves are dashing, And hear the wild roar of their thunder today.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1366465 By Jaron Khor. By Deng Yuxian. Arranged by Jaron Khor. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Folk,Traditional. 12 pages. Jaron Khor #950798. Published by Jaron Khor (A0.1366465). Deng Yuxian (July 21, 1906 - June 11, 1944) was a Taiwanese Hakka composer known for nearly a hundred iconic compositions, including Rainy Night Flowers, Spring Breeze, and Four Seasons Red. He is acclaimed as the Father of Taiwanese Ballads. Born in Taoyuan into a family with a rich history, Deng attended the Taipei Normal School under Japanese rule and later pursued composition studies in Japan.Upon returning to Taiwan, Deng Yuxian created numerous popular songs. In 1940, he left the music industry to become a teacher. Unfortunately, he succumbed to heart and lung disease in 1944 at the age of less than 40. Deng's musical legacy has had a profound impact on the Taiwanese music scene, leaving an indelible mark on its history.Spring Breeze, also known as Desire to the Spring Breeze, is an ancient traditional music piece with roots in a rich and old musical tradition. Known for its millennia-old melody and profound cultural significance, the song typically expresses anticipation for spring and praises the vibrant natural scenery. In this reimagined arrangement, I aimed to depart from traditional arrangement methods, incorporating rich scene paintings and vivid imagery. Each section has been crafted as a musical canvas, seeking to portray imaginative landscapes between the notes. This innovative approach challenges tradition, breathing new life into this ancient piece, making it more resonant with contemporary audiences. This arrangement is not just a reinterpretation of the music but also a tribute to tradition and an exploration of new perspectives. I hope this musical adventure guides you through the intersection of tradition and modernity, allowing Spring Breeze to blossom anew in a fresh narrative of sound, providing you with a wondrous journey for the soul.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201464 By Vessela Stoyanova. By Vessela Stoyanova. Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 89 pages. Vessela Stoyanova #798931. Published by Vessela Stoyanova (A0.1201464). “Mountain Goats and Other Creatures†was Commissioned by Rachel Jayson and the Lexington High School Symphony Orchestra. It was inspired by the folk music of my native land of Bulgaria, informed by my experience as a rock musician, reimagined through the lense of my place inside of a community of like-minded artists and musicians, where I have made my real home today. The first movement - Mountain Goats - is a sort of celebration of renewal, promise, and hope. It represents the tenacious will of grass growing through the snow of early spring, the powerful longing for human connection, the warmth of the sun against your skin on a bright chilly day. It carries both the pristine optimism of youth, and the nervous energy of trying something for the first time. The second movement - Samodivi - in contrast is dark, heavy and full of passion and desire. According to Balkan myths, Samodivi are gorgeous nymphs who live in the woods and often seduce men with their beautiful song and dance. They are feared and envied at the same time. The music of the second movement represents the mysterious dark forest at night - lower strings create the moss under your feet, higher strings use extended techniques to simulate the noise of branches clicking the wind, a few soloists represent different creatures - both real and imaginary - scurry through the woods above your head. Then you hear the lone song of a Samodiva in the distance, your heart is beating hard, your steps are leading you straight towards the call against your better judgement. It is the ancient story of fear and desire, of self control and complete abandon. You, the listener, become witness to a wild dance, fire in the woods, snakes in their long blond hairs, slender bodies dressed in white clouds dancing to an imaginary beat.  Then it all ends abruptly and you left to wonder: Was it real? Did I see it? Am I safe? The third and final movement of the piece is based on a popular rhythmic folk dance in Bulgaria called Kopanitsa, while the melody creates a fugue between the different voices of the orchestra. The Kids are the little of the mountain goats - free to frolic high above tree line, above any human traces, as close to the clouds as one can get and still be touching the ground below. They are carefree, daring, and somewhat naive, yet safe under the watchful gaze of their parent. The movements ends in cascading repetitions of a musical motif in 5/8 representing the relentless passing of time or at least our perception of it.

Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament – "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M. Choral Choir (Mixed) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933469 Composed by Mark Kline. Christian,Contemporary,Easter,Holiday,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. Mark Kline #2332297. Published by Mark Kline (A0.933469). One of the most ancient, beloved, and enduring prayers of the Christian Faith is the Kyrie. In the language of the New Testament, Koine Greek, the simple phrase Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison means Lord, have mercy; Christ have mercy. By utilizing close harmonies and a fluid increase of intensity, Mark Kline’s composition is meant to suggest the heavenl-like sounds of grace in the hearts of penitents. At two minutes in length, this Kyrie works well in both church and concert settings, engaging a listening audience or aiding in reflective prayer and meditation. In the context of the Mass, the liturgical form used is three Kyrie’s, three Christe’s, and three Kyrie’s. This arrangement can also function in the Mass as a song of thanksgiving after Communion or as an opening or closing piece. Mark Kline's Kyrie is written in ten indispensable parts, and can benefit greatly from multiple singers on each part (especially the men’s continuo with its close harmonies).

Saxophone Trio,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1342264 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Traditional. 3 pages. Jmsgu3 #927716. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1342264). Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, also known as O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, is a Christian hymn for Advent. It has ancient origins, as the melody synthesizes the great, ancient O Antiphons sung for Vespers during Advent. The familiar tune, Veni Emmanuel, was first linked with this hymn in 1851, when Thomas Helmore published it in the Hymnal Noted, paired with an early revision of Neale's English translation. While the Veni Emmanuel tune predominates in the English-speaking world, several others have been closely associated with the hymn.O Come, O Come, Emmanuel has been used in popular culture as a significant and enduring hymn, particularly during Advent and Christmas. Its universal themes of hope, longing, and the anticipation of the arrival of Jesus Christ have resonated with listeners of different generations, evoking strong emotions and connecting them to the deeper meaning of Christmas and Advent. The song's profound impact on listeners, touching hearts and stirring emotions, has contributed to its enduring popularity. Various artists have sung it, featuring it in numerous Christmas albums and performances, further solidifying its place in popular culture. Therefore, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel holds a special significance in popular culture due to its timeless message and emotional impact on listeners.
