This is notably the most famous, it is in 3/4 time, in the key of E Major modulating to A Major. This is a beautiful work, and not just the third movement, with good partial writing for all. The original work was written in 2007 and is dedicated to Samuel Hernández, a clarinettist pursuing his Master's at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The composer, who was also the pianist in their duo, wrote it during his musical training at the composition faculty of the same centre. The work reflects the composer's extensive work writing for Samuel and other performers from the woodwind faculty in between 2006 and 2009, embodying the spirit of collaboration and musical innovation.The piece was later revised and won First Prize at the II Agustín Ramos Chamber Music Composition Competition, leading to the programme of its premiere on January 27, 2018, at the Agustín Ramos Chamber Music Festival in La Candelaria (Tenerife, Spain).The Toccata showcases a lively interplay between clarinet and piano, featuring rhythmic vigor and expressive lyrical moments. The music is thought to have originated in Muslim Spain a thousand years ago and spread across North Africa in the following centuries. The music is set to the ancient Muwasha poetry, often with secular themes such as love. Andalusi music remains popular today, especially in Morocco, and has influenced many other forms of Arab music. Øب aims to capture the melody and spirit of this timeless music.Øب is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The preamble is in free time, like an improvisation, followed by the melody and instrumental interludes in a typical ten beat cycle. Øب has a performance time of around three minutes.
