I have been living in Sweden since 2014, so to me it felt natural to use a Swedish title :)This composition wants to express a journey feeling, through landscapes and through our inner soul. It is approximately 5 minutes long and is the 2nd movement of a suite for violin and orchestra called Ales Stenar, which is structured in 5 movements. The orchestration requires, as a minimum, the following instruments: 1 solo violin, 1 first violin, 1 second violin, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet in B-flat, 1 bassoon. Upon request I can arrange the score for a bigger ensemble.The solo violin player should be a skilled one - though difficulties are not extreme - and someone who is able to deliver emotions. Among the orchestra players it would be wise to have a skilled bassoonist. Ideally it requires a generous bass voice and techincally its difficulty is intermediate. The final part, in C major key, should be sung and played slightly faster (con più slancio) and with more light, sun I would say, in the voice. It's not an extremely demanding cadenza: it just requires cleanliness and precision at the beginning and at the end, while the middle section has to be more romantic and free-flowing. Tu scendi dalle stelle (You Come Down from the Stars) is a Christmas carol from Italy, written in 1732 by Alfonso Maria De Liguori in the musical style of a pastorale. I arranged it here for bass voice and piano, trying to keep it simple. The tessitura/range is extremely comfortable and suitable also for a beginner. I have added a short piano passage in between the two parts, so bars 27-39 are entirely original and of my own. This is a waltz in D minor for piano solo that I have composed in 2020 and slightly modified in 2021. If played as I imagine it its length should be around 4'30. It starts simply, with a melancholic melody (A) and then it switches to a difficult section (B) in which the player will need power - especially on the left hand - and technical skills. The dynamic and mood contrast between A and B should be huge. The main theme then comes back, but very modified and contaminated (A1). One last theme is exposed (C) before the reprise (A) and the conclusion of the music piece. There are many modulations in this waltz but none of them leads to a stable tonaily change. This is a very famous bass solo from Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Forza del Destino.In the original score there is a male chorus part, which I have removed in this arrangement so that this piece can be performed (almost) as an operatic aria.I have also done minor changes in the piano accompaniment in order to smoothen the cut of the male chorus part. The character singing this role is a priest whose name is Padre Guardiano. This makes this piece fit also for sacred music performances.

So yes, there's certainly a mazurka feeling in this piece, but also some polonaise and a kick of Italian violin music tradition.I composed this music in 2013 for piano solo and in F minor. But then I met a fantastic violinist and, getting friend with him, I took the initiative to arrange for violin and piano and transpose it a half step down. I like it better in this new version! And I believe that this melody was, since the very beginning, meant to be a violin melody.I can send you separate parts upon request with no extra charge.
