Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1163698). It is rare to find something that tests someones dynamics knowledge while relating to guitar, so I composed such a piece. Its genre is modern, classical and romantic. It personally reminds me of Chopin in harmonic language. Tips:1. I believe the volume indicated reflects the chord quality quite well. For example, a Gmaj7 or augmented chord sounds bad loud because they are sleepy and dreamy chords.2. The Ab/C chord in measure 15 is a Neopolitan chord in the key of G major. 3. This piece takes advantage of a key well suited for guitar: E minor. 4. This piece is a good example of a composing technique where you keep notes the same between chords, having little concern for how complex of a chord name that results.5. Rolling the chords is okay and often sounds quite good.

This is an intermediate level solo guitar study that might be a worthwhile addition to a student's or intermediate guitarist's study materials or repertoire. It's not too hard - maybe Trinity Grade 3/4. You will be able to find a performance on YouTube.My scores are intentionally devoid of expressive and dynamic markings (even tempo indications). Dynamics and other markings are not only crude, but imply there is only one interpretation of the piece. There should be significant development of dynamics, tempo and colour within my pieces, but I leave this to the interpretation of the player.Notwithstanding the above, the fingerings are important. My pieces are 'guitaristic' in that certain notes need to be played at specific places on the fretboard in order to exploit resonances or harmonies only available when playing them there.

Dotzauer etudes have been part of the standard repertoire in cello lessons for generations. Johann Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860) was among the major cellists and cello pedagogues of the 19th century and knew what makes a good etude: it should deal specifically with a certain technical problem and at the same time not be monotonous, but musically appealing. The cellist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Dresden Hofkapelle managed to do that in an exemplary manner. Our new edition of the 18 progressive etudes Op. 120 follows the original sources and contains the original text. While the Dotzauer etudes are usually only available in selected editions today, opus 120 is edited here in its entirety, as conceived by the composer himself. He is still known today for his Clarinet School (1802), which became a standard work in France and beyond. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933524). The Prelude and Fugue in C major were created during the period of study with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, who lived from February 3, 1736 to March 7, 1809. Albrechtsberger was an Austrian theoretician and pedagogue of music, an organist, as well as a composer. He entered upon his career early as a choirboy in the choir of the monastery of Melk, Austria. There he was discovered by the crown prince, the later emperor Joseph II. The latter facilitated an appointment as the court organist.Later Albrechtsberger became conductor of the chapel choir of the famous Stephansdom in Vienna. Albrechtsberger was a highly praised pedagogue; Beethoven, too, was among his pupils. It was this composer that studied with Albrechtsberger from January 1794 to March/May 1795. Together with Beethoven, Albrechtsberger researched all forms of the counterpoint, which is most manifest in the large number of exercises passed down; over 300 studies, fugues etc. have been preserved with corrections and alterations by Albrechtsberger. During this period of study, greater works were also composed, such as the Dona Nobis Pacem (Hess A57), the Prelude and Fugue in E minor (Hess 29), the Prelude and Fugue in F major (Hess 30) and the present one in C major (Hess 31). The piece was probably composed in 1794-95; this opus also shows numerous improvements and alterations by his master, although some alterations are by Beethoven himself. The manuscript of the work is to be found in Vienna, and did not appear in print until 1967 for the first time.The present version sticks closely to Beethoven’s, but has been provided with a double bass part so as to adapt the work for being performed with a larger strength than for which it was originally written. The strength originally intended by Beethoven was two violins, a viola and a cello, so as a string quartet. With the supplementary bass part, the piece can also be played by a string orchestra, which will no doubt promote its dissemination and familiarity. In a sense, the work is already a preliminary study for the string quartets Opus 18 produced later.Especially the rhythm, melodic forms, and the counterpoint applied, frequently return in these string quartets. Beethoven has hardly indicated any rests in the empty bars; Cees has as yet added them.The phrasing, dynamics and time indications have also been added. Beethoven merely writes down the notes, while we have to accept the fact that various notes have been changed by Albrechtsberger but Beethoven’s notes might have been just as interesting. Of some notes it was not clear what Beethoven exactly meant; in such a case, Cees has adhered to the harmonious form, adapting the notes which, logically speaking, fit in with the harmonic unity.

If you are a teacher using Orff instruments in your general music class this arrangement will work well for middle and high school students. It could be a culminating performance for a unit of study. It can be performed by two students on an instrument or one student per instrument in an ensemble setting. Your lessons could scaffold content on playing the song in 3/4 time, good tone and dynamics, syncopation, ties, and articulation. Some examples of academic language are dynamics, repeat signs, and ostinato. The parts are differentiated by level of musicianship and the arrangement is very adaptable.

Bach in the course of their studies, it is unsurprising that they should come to admire and champion these works in music studios and performances. For composers, these works present an opportunity to learn from, model and at times emulate musical styles of the Baroque.  While these two-part inventions are Baroque in nature, musical elements are present that exceed their historical bounds such as the modulations found in No. 5 and No. 6.Performance considerations have been made for the sake of practical instruction, while still retaining a Baroque aesthetic.  For example, typical pieces of the Baroque era are without tempi or dynamic indications.  In keeping with this, the tempi provided in parenthesis should be viewed only as recommended approximations and not as fixed directives.  Liberty is also afforded to the performer and music teacher regarding dynamics, which are entirely absent in the score. Performers are encouraged to seek out their own inspiration on the matter of dynamics and tempi through experimentation and a judicious ear.  The provided ornamentation may be augmented or even done away with entirely depending on the needs and tastes of the performer. While the range of style and difficulty in this collection varies widely, it is suitable for use in music education, worship service, and public performance.  For piano instructors, the following order is recommended to fit a general progressive study: 8, 2, 4, 3, 1, 10, 9, 6, 5, 7, which may be adjusted to accommodate the skills and temperament of individual students.

Vibrato consistent across all instrumentalists. 4. No liberty with rhythm. Follow exactly as written. 5. This may be considered an etude – a study of volume. All instrumentalists should be consistent in their interpretation of each dynamic. pppp should be extremely quiet but still audible. 6. The change in volume for crescendos and decrescendos should be gradual – reaching end dynamic in a legato, smooth manner. 7. This study includes 60 pieces selected from different periods which are used with their original accompaniments, was prepared in order to read music (solfeggio), one of the most important elements in music education, using examples selected from music literature in an enjoyable way. Care has been taken to ensure that the selected music displays color and diversity in terms of technique, style, and geography, and it aims to be an eye-opener. The pieces are arranged according to the level, and when new topics and elements are used, they are indicated on each piece. Dynamics were not used in the first 10 pieces while trying to preserve to the original dynamics used in the music, minor changes were made where necessary. When possible, the original tempos of the music have been kept, but the tempo of some instrumental music has been reconsidered for this anthology and given as an approximation (circa: ca.). The musical slurs used in the pieces show the musical sentences and the breathing places. Parts of the anthology pieces might be played or studied in different ways.
