Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - SKU: A0.976734 Composed by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 99 pages. WheatMyer Music #6496769. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976734). CONJUNCTION interprets the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn near the end of the year 2020 as a celestial metaphor for the good news of Christ's birth in a replay of the Star of Bethlehem. Hence, its subtitle of The Christmas Star of 2020. The music, along with narration from selected Old and New Testament scriptures, delivers a message of hope amid the turmoil and chaos of current times. It's written for smaller concert bands hungry for challenging music. Ample cues and doubling allow for flexible instrumentation while mixed meters, varying tempos and textures, and interesting solo lines provide opportunities for strong players to shine. CONJUNCTION is also available with strings for orchestra.PROGRAM NOTES:2020 is widely characterized for its maladies: murders, burning cities, riots, a pandemic, economic shocks, and political turmoil. For some of us, it also held personal tragedy such as my brother’s passing from COVID. But, 2020 also brought a sign of hope, namely the celestial phenomenon known as the Great Conjunction of 2020. For earth-bound observers, this was the closest approach of Jupiter and Saturn in almost 400 years as they appeared to almost touch in the early evening sky to produce the most brilliant evening star of our lifetimes. The occurrence of the event in November-December neatly coincided with the Advent season, peaking just before Christmas Day. One could hardly fail to note the parallels with the Christmas star of Matthew’s gospel which gave the conjunction its alternate name, the Christmas Star of 2020. Thus, this star spoke, to those with ears to hear, the same message the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming Messiah, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. This star thus served to remind us that the LORD has not rejected us; He will show His favor again; His love has not vanished; His promises have not failed; He has not forgotten to be merciful or compassionate; and we are called to remember His mighty deeds (Psalm 77). CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020 is inspired by these particulars. For the music, I looked to Gustav Holst’s The Planets for themes that would portray Jupiter and Saturn’s pas de deux. I selected several motives from the corresponding movements mixed and matched in sometimes easily recognized quotations and other times in heavily camouflaged derivations. An exuberant polyphonic passage recaps themes from both Jupiter and Saturn when the music resolves from uncertainty into hopefulness. While Holst’s motives provide CONJUNCTION’s foundation I also used Handel’s Messiah for transitory and climactic material. You will hear his The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light in transitions and a short trombone solo. And a re-harmonization of the opening line from For unto us a child is born brings the music to a joyous climax.Although the music stands firmly on its own, I elected to incorporate some narrative to make the musical sentiment explicit. In a commentary on 2020’s grim events, I took adaptations of Habakkuk 1:2-4 and 2 Tim 3:1-4 and set them over Saturn’s plodding and ominous harmonies. Contrasting replies shimmer with hope as the narration melds Isaiah 9:2 and Luke 1:78-79 over another Saturn motive set against pitch sets from Jupiter’s main hymn theme. Still, it’s the music that tells the story of the Christmas Star of 2020.Please visit my website for a complete score preview: https://wheatmyermusic.com/conjunction-the-christmas-star-of-2020I feel somewhat guilty making claim to this music as almost all the building blocks are taken from other composers. But the end result is neither a medley, nor an arrangement, rather it is something clearly new, so I call it my own with deep respect to those giants on whose shoulders I stand.Robert MyersS.D.G.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1143904 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 37 pages. Studio at the Post #744209. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1143904). Duration: 16 minutes, 33 pp. Description: Exodus is a great story that belongs to everyone. Not only is it central to Judaism, not only is it integral to the Christian Bible, it is an immortal story that has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to oppressed peoples everywhere on this planet. It is relevant not just as ancient scripture but as living text, to be rediscovered by each new generation of an ever-widening Family of Man. The theme of struggle against oppression and slavery was just as relevant to the early Christians persecuted in Ancient Rome as it was relevant to the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, just as relevant to the Soviet Jews wishing to emigrate as it is to the South African Blacks resisting Apartheid. From the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition, to Ghandi's emancipation of India, to the Holocaust, to, full-circle, the ongoing struggles in Palestine today, the story of Exodus is a guiding light in a dim and often grim world. According to the composer: The Story of a Leader is a collection of ‘re-chorales’ I created one summer when I was totally immersed in a post-educational obsession with the 371 Chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. We used to study these to learn the rules of harmony and voice-leading (no parallel fifths, avoid crossed voices, etc.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I began my compositional career. That summer, now a professor of music in my own right, I discovered many broken and bent rules by the master himself and, along with the glory of being able to work through these Chorales myself at the piano, I felt an incredible feeling of liberation and possibilities unmediated by instructors of music theory. I began by stripping away all that Bach wrote, leaving only the hymn tunes which were not his to begin with. These tunes existed long before Bach used them for his tonal experiments, some attributed to Martin Luther, or someone else, others simply listed as ‘anonymous’. The same is true for the texts, which were then translated into English mostly in the 19th century (the provenance of each can be found herein on the first page of each of my reharmonizations). In some cases I modified the text to fit the context. I selected 12 of these ‘re-chorales,’ linking them together based on their texts in a kind of logic that worked for me, and created a narrative that told The Story of a Leader (Moses). This story is highlighted in the music with such techniques as cross-modal harmonies, points of imitation, a beer drinking song in one instance, and in another, to symbolize the parting of the seas for Moses’ people, an inversion of the soprano line in the bass..

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1028773 Composed by L.J Harding. Contemporary. Score and parts. 6 pages. L.J Harding #3921145. Published by L.J Harding (A0.1028773). ‘From Flutter to Flight’ is a String Quartet featuring sequencing, imitation, dynamics and a wide exploration of range. The reason I chose the name ‘From Flutter to Flight’ was because of the inspiration I gained while composing this piece. The story of a bird’s first experience of flight is something that is beautiful, however awkward it may be. The start of the piece, with the duet between Violin 1 & 2, symbolises young birds watching as their parents fly in a dance. The theme is then developed into a four part. The rhythmic pattern in the Viola part represents the fluttering and awkwardness of the young birds as they attempt to fly while the duet between the Violins is maintained and complemented by low notes from the Cello. This represents the birds as they finally begin to learn and begin flying faster and stronger. This swiftly follows by descending thirds on the Cello leading to a four-broken chord progression which creates a sense of adventure and willingness to advance forward. Violin comes in alongside the Cello as the younger birds begin to get more confident. The notes move with the movement of the birds, higher notes representing them flying higher whereas lower notes representing them flying lower. The second theme is then developed with the first theme being played in Violin 2 as a gentle reminder of the birds past and how far they have come. This ends with the return of the first theme in recapitulation followed with some new ideas including a much higher range in Violins 1 & 2 and it closes with the tonic 7th chord to symbolise an ending with the birds finally achieving flight.

Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890767). Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. The Four Seasons in the Basque Country is a 4 movement symphony for concert band. It is the Third Prize Winner of the 2020 American Prize in Composition - Concert Band. Grade 5, duration 27 minutes. The piece depicts four different places in the Basque country that the composer feels best show the changes of season. The first movement is Winter in the Costa Norte (Galerna). Galerna is on the northerncoast and is subject to harsh storms in the winter. As the piece starts off with a light-hearted dance in thepiccolo, a storm is approaching from afar. At first the storm seems to be in the distance but as it comes closer it overtakes the festivities in a bluster. For a short time two conductors are needed as the concertband is split into two groups – one showing the light-hearted dance led by the piccolo, the other thecacophony of the storm led by the percussion. The storm overtakes everything as it ends the movement with a flourish. The second movement Spring in Rioja Alavesa is a calming contrast to the first movement like the freshness of a spring day. The sun rises and shines beams of light onto the acres of grape vines. After a timea short rain comes to refresh and clean the plants. The third movement Autumn at the Guggenheim Museum is in a traditional 3rd movement form of a symphony, minuet and trio, but the harmonies sometimes use bitonality, having the melody in one key while the accompaniment is in another to suggest surrealism. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbaois one of the world’s most famous museums, not only for the surreal art inside, but also because of the architecture of the building itself. The fourth movement Summer in Bilbao is based on a dance melody composed in the Ezpata- dantza Basque style. It employs a rhythmic element with alternating 6/8 and 3â„4 meters where the eighth notes are basically equal, but in the dance the 3â„4 meter is actually a little bit longer. This type of subtlemanipulation of rhythm is used similarly in the Viennese Waltz, when the 3rd beat would be stretched outto accommodate the dancers. The Ezpata-dantza dance continues until the Altza Gastiak, the officialsong of the Bilbao Athletic Club, the local soccer team of Bilbao, is heard. After this the Ezpata-dantzamelody is transformed from a happy dance to a triumphant melody and rousing finale. In The Four Seasons in the Basque Country all of the themes are original except for the short excerpt ofAltza Gastiakin the 4th movement. Some themes are composed in the style of Basque folk dances.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. Flute,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.971652 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 35 pages. Musicart Publications #4797933. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971652). In three movements, Romantic Sonata - Poems of Light (flute and piano) communicates how light can be a metaphor for the emotional and spiritual aspects of life. There are also three paintings - also created by the composer - joining hearing with sight as a poetic way of understanding ideas and emotions.Of Light and Shadow possesses a monothematic sonata design (rather than a two-theme structure), with a primary musical theme that is developed, and a brief closing section. Colors in the Clouds, the second movement of the work, does not differ greatly in tempo from the first movement, but rather is more relaxed in character. A slower middle section of this movement explores tone color through expressive use of extended techniques for the flute. Prism of the Heart is variation of the classical chaconne, with an introduction and a closing section. The conclusion of the first movement is developed and becomes the closing section of the third movement. This connects the first and third movements, bringing one back to where one started, yet experiencing change after the musical journey. The score and flute part in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns, directly from the PDF. Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement as a composer. One unique aspect of Hoover’s work is when he combines composition with his paintings, creating synergetic art that intrigues and captivate audiences and performers alike. His paintings are seen in exhibitions and in concerts where his paintings are projected while musicians perform his music. Hoover’s background as a performer includes both classical and jazz music, as saxophonist and conductor. His book The Arts and Society: Making New Worlds is published by Kendall Hunt Publishing. Hoover was born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Composition and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts) from Texas Tech University, as well as and .Sc. from Ball State University. Hope PrevailsThe composition consists of six movements and is for a Brass Quintet with guest instrumentalists of Oboe, Violin, Viola and Soprano voice. The piece explores the moods that many encounter as they go through life from loneliness through to elation. the composers brother experienced these extreme emotions and it resulted in him taking his own life. This piece is dedicated to his memory. The MP3 contains a very short extract from each movement that is a direct download from computer composition software and is therefore not of great quality. The composer is looking for a group to record this piece. Please get in touch if you wish to be part fo a collaborative project perhaps as a school, college, university or other group. The Struggle of the night - 4:09 in length:The first movement commences with sonorous chord sequences and quickly moves to a lively section. The piece incorporates the tune of the Welsh National Anthem along with the hymn tune Cwm Rhondda. The movement moves between the despair and loneliness of the night that one can feel, even when sleeping next to a close partner, and the racing desperation of the mind, whereby patriotic affiliations will calm the soul at these times. the movement finishes with the tune of Land of my father's resonating but even this is of no comfort, and the troubled mind lies awake and the movement finishes with a flurry of discord. The Solitude - 5.34 in length:The movement begins with a haunting melody led by the Oboe. the Horn soon joins in as do other instruments of the quintet. A simple Gregorian type rhythm and chant passes through the quintet with the Oboe leading the movement.Crescendos and attacked notes give the piece a rise and fall showing the mood of the soul that alternates between a calm and a peak of mood as sleep is hard to come by and a restless state is invoked. It appears that the oboe will be leading the soul into peace yet, at the last moment, the quintet joins in with chords of attack and crescendo followed by a sharp diminuendo to end the piece. The soul has sought solace, yet, all they find is loneliness.Brad's Broadcast - 3:01 in length:The restless soul awakes after a restless night. The world is full of voices, advice, motivation and answers. In this lively movement, the soul searches for solace and finds sense from some sources, yet, the cacophony of contrary advice and the nature of some disciples of business and life coaches becomes confusing. there are some real gems of advice available, but, the noise of others drowns out the sense and sanity. The soul manages to find some humour in the forums and media, they smile, but the relief is short lived. The movement ends with all voices descending away in a glissando and silence is restored.By His Own Hand - 4:26 in length:This movement reflects the desperation of the soul. they have sought solace, humour has passed them by, they do not feel that they can continue to live. The piece starts with a cadenza played by a viola. A violin soon duets in this Jewish styled lament.Throughout the movement the brass are spartan, reflecting the confusion of the soul. The ability to cling onto the world and to continue living is a losing battle. The waves of the lament increase in their presence, but not velocity, for the depressed souul is reaching the point of no return and of no choice. They will soon depart from the world by their own hand. The end ofthe movement is a descent and a unifying discordant sound as the soul leaves.Dreaming of Heaven - 2:31 in length:The soul is now rising and an ancient Celtic tune accompanies the soul in the form of a Soprano voice singing words of hope and light. The soul's path is lit and the ancient bell of.

Published by Music Innovators Workshop (A0.984713). This is an arrangement of the first movement of the piece that retains most of its notes but has a few spots where it is simplified slightly. The arrangement on a key map tablature greatly simplifies it from the original notation with it's 4 sharps, B sharps, and double sharps. This piece is notated on a vertically oriented tablature called a key map. Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group. (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.) The key map staff is based on an octave group of the keyboard. For each key map octave group, the 5 vertical lines of the staff stand for the 5 matching black KEYS. >>> Staff lines ARE SPACED to match the horizontal spacing of the black keys on the keyboard The notes for black keys are placed ON these staff lines. The notes for the white keys are placed BETWEEN the lines. >>> The notes of a key map move to the left and right to indicate change in PITCH and down the page to indicate the passing of TIME (rhythm). The vertical length of each note is proportional to the time (in beats) that the sound requires.

A piano sonata for Fall based on an ancient melody. Two of the movements are connected to the ocean and the coast. I consider them to be fallish because one of them is a lament. The other one is about the bones of the earth (the rocky coast.) The third movement is about the play of light through barren tree branches. It is called The Haunted Sonata because the melody that the sonata is based is practically invisible. It is there, but it is just like a ghost, you hear it out of the corner of your eye.

Full Orchestral Score and Individual PartsA New Concerto for Flute and Orchestra The Hummingbird from contemporary American composer James Nathaniel Holland in three movements. A fun and light-hearted piece. Why the hummingbird? Those cute, little, delicate creatures that just want to go about their business admiring the flowers. After living in Costa Rica for some time it couldn’t be farther from the truth, they are aggressive birds that pick a fight with anything that comes into their territory. But let’s talk about this concerto. It first began with the composer’s desire to write a concerto for flute. Influenced by the 3/8 rhythm of the piano sonatas of Alessandro Scarlatti. Hence, the first movement was born with its sort of here, there, and here again quality which reminded me of the many hummingbirds that I’ve seen in Costa Rica. The first movement also contains a quality of jazz to it and is a nice addition to the flute concerto repertoire. The second movement is slow and straight forward. It is relax time that only a flute can evoke. The third is a sort of Mozart styled third Rondo movement. But as you will listen there are some elements that have nothing to do with Mozart. The harmonies are modern as well as some of the rhythmic aspects.Â

One might think this would be sad, violent music, but each earthly creature is shown in its musical habitat where it happily does what it does best....bees buzzing around flowers, cuckoos gently calling in the forest, Walruses jumping not so gracefully onto sea ice, Jaguars quietly stalking their prey. The habitat changes are depicted by gradual use of unstable scales, and the sometimes hidden ancient tune of the Dies Irae, the Day of Wrath. The point I wish to make is how humans must be watchful of wildlife habitats because we are all in this limited world together. Where wild creatures go, so do we. It was best said by Jane Goodall: Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help shall they be saved.Buzzy Delights (honey bees) – Bees are industrious and play a key role in propagating plants, while the queen stays in the hive in her pentagonal glory and sings a song in 5/4 time. Honey Bees have been having issues with some types of insecticides and diseases and whole areas of hives have died off. Humans would be in a bad way if they buzzed off and went extinct. You may watch a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/j-zLUcxiMas

Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1033340 Composed by Neil Awasthi. Contemporary. Score. 6 pages. Neil Awasthi #6352703. Published by Neil Awasthi (A0.1033340). The chase is afoot! A rather large cat attempts to hunt a wily mouse. The mouse tries to escape the cat’s clutches. Who succeeds? This piece’s ternary form follows the chase between a cat and mouse. Section A is lively and fast-paced because the cat is on the hunt for the mouse. Since this piece is written from the mouse’s perspective, C-sharp minor conveys the mouse’s fright and fear. The time signature is 4/4 to allow for 16th notes, which denote running steps. The theme in m.19 repeats several times throughout Section A to signify the large cat’s ominous stalking. Tenutos and staccatos punctuate the cat’s heavy steps. In m.14-15, the chromatic scale represents the cat’s momentum. The constantly changing dynamics showcase the various movements and emotions in a chase. Specifically, in m.28-31, the dynamic changes to piano and pedal is employed to signify the mouse’s despair. Section B stands alone, representing the mouse’s successful escape from the cat. The section’s key signature D-flat major is light and happy. A time signature of 6/8 swings, furthering the carefree mood of the mouse. The beginning of Section B repeats to emphasize the mouse’s joyous escape. However, at the end of the section, the cat returns. In m.61-68, varying speeds and descriptors contrast the movements of the cat and mouse. In m.68, the cat’s theme is an octave lower to draw attention to the cat’s threatening, heavy steps. In m.70-71, the notes accelerate to show that the mouse begins to run again. Section A’s refrain recaps the cat chasing the mouse. In m.89-100, the end, tells the mouse’s fate. The climatic ending is highlighted by the speeding tempo. The treble-clef notes are an octave higher to build excitement. In m.95-96, notes descend 4 octaves to indicate the mouse’s ultimate demise. The piece ends with grand chords to mark the mouse’s death.

The words tell us, in a poetic and metaphysical manner, about the mechanism that moves the world and keeps the universe alive: there is a singing fountain at the end of the world and a pounding heart at the other end. The fountain and the heart are attracted to each other and wish to get closer, but as soon as they move from their place they lose sight of each other. Once they cannot see each other anymore the heart would stop beating and the fountain would stop singing. Thus, they both stay in their places and sing to each other. Their song spreads over the entire world and sparks of light emanate from it. When the sparks are woven together they produce enough Time for a new day to be created. The music mirrors the soft pounding of the heart and the spreading of this magical melody.Duration: 9' 40 For demo recording, any questions, or additional information please e-mail Ofer Ben-Amots at: thecomposerspress@gmail.com

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Violin - SKU: A0.977033 Composed by Paul SanGregory. Contemporary. Score and parts. 48 pages. Distant Engraver Music #3534793. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977033). (Score and parts are included in a single download.)As the pun used for the title for this piece suggests, it is a suite of generally light movements that still possess a certain amount of depth. Though the harmonies are generally pleasant, seeming to have popular or jazz origins, there are various musical spices adding more body to that sweetness. The first movement, Improvisation, captures the mood of a free-form prelude, as if the players were improvising on a set of chords, some of which seem to be influenced by jazz or other non-classical idioms. Dialogue, the second movement, is a conversation between the violin and guitar. There are times when one instrument accompanies the other, but generally both players add important thoughts to the rhythmically diverse conversation. The third movement begins with a guitar accompaniment supporting the violin’s Song. Later, these two roles are reversed. Dance is essentially a disagreement. The violin plays a quasi-aristocratic eighteenth-century gavotte while the guitar prefers a sombre chromatic waltz. There is emphatic disagreement over which dance the players should perform, but in the end a solution seems to be found. The last movement, Pursuit, is a playful chase that is interrupted by a dreamy pause to catch one’s breath. Complete performance duration is ca. 15 minutes.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1024939 Composed by Abigail Gilson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 6 pages. Abigail Gilson #3631511. Published by Abigail Gilson (A0.1024939). Finding the Star is a slow-moving piece that draws out the idea of time being slowed down when one is lost. The theme of this piece is the idea of being lost at sea. The slow ground bass starts, the churning of the dark waves against the side of the ship. The sky and sea are the same type of dark, not a star or light can be seen anywhere above or below. On deck the crew wait for an order, though they are scared, there’s nothing they can do. They cannot make the star appear, and they cannot give direction without certainty that they’re going in the right direction. The waves turn and grow and often push the ship around, making everyone nervous, if they completely get turned they could get lost. The voices of the instruments trade places and come in and out of each other. Dancing around each other making a beautiful eerie melody. At the very end of the piece, the star is found. The clouds move and the moons bright light shines down on the weary travelers and they find hope again.

Small Ensemble Horn,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1503872 Composed by Elizabeth Raum. 20th Century. 73 pages. Gordon Cherry #1079324. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1503872). Rome's Pantheon, based on Greek mythical legends was first constructed over 2,000 years ago as a temple of all the gods. In the year 609, it became a Catholic church.Pantheon for Violin, Horn, and Piano by the great Canadian composer Elizabeth Raum is a seven-movement suite of chamber music depicting various of the Greek gods:1. Eos: Goddess of the Dawn2. Moirae: Gods of Fate3. Aphrodite: Goddess of Love and Beauty4. Zeus and Hera5. Artemis (Diana) Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt6. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals7. Apollo: God of Sun and LightHere are the comments about Pantheon from composer Elizabeth Raum:Pantheon alludes to a temple, a musical temple in this case, devoted to the gods of ancient Greek mythology, several of whom are represented in this work. The first movement opens with a horn call as Eos, Goddess of the Dawn begins her rosy-fingered awakening, and rising from her couch, ascends the heavens in her horse-drawn chariot. She heralds the approach of her brother, Helius, the sun god, whose superior brightness causes her color to fade. In the second movement, The Fates (Moirae) spin their thread of life and death. The minimalist quality of the music, representing the steady turn of the spindle, becomes more and more agitated as Atropos, the Fate who holds the shears, prepares to cut the thread. The hand stopped horn and the Bartok pizzicato signify the final snip. A moment of contemplation, and they begin again. Some try to persuade Atropos to delay a moment, but she cannot be deterred. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, is the third movement. She arose from the foam of the sea and all were charmed by her grace, but she could also be coy and flirtatious as she is in this version. Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods, make up the fourth movement. The opening theme suggests the regal stride of Zeus while Hera, furious at his many infidelities, quarrels with him and schemes to thwart his affairs. In the fifth movement, Artemis (Dawn Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt), holds high her silver bow that gleams in the night sky like the new moon. The clouds drift silently past while she runs with her hounds and dances with her nymphs. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals, sixth movement, is scored for violin and horn alone. He is a very mischievous and cunning god, and his exceptional swiftness is aided by his winged sandals as he flies to carry out his divine duties. And finally in the seventh movement, Apollo the horn again summons the gods. A hymn to Apollo celebrates the god of eternal youth, beauty, and music. This is a major chamber work for Violin, Horn, and Piano of about 26 minutes in length written for Erika Raum, Phil Myers, and Peter Allen and is appropriate for very advanced artists.

Then Nature Breathed (For Flo) During the international pandemic lockdown of 2020, I was living in Perthshire, Scotland. I am a keen road and hill runner, and I often find solitude, fitness, and mental rejuvenation in the foothills of the Ochils. Perthshire is a beautiful place to run. Due to the lack of planes and cars, I was amazed at the sudden abundance of animals and plant growth which appeared quite suddenly during that spring and summer. I felt that nature was thanking us for a brief pause in our frantic lifestyles, where we belch emissions and pollute our souls, minds and the planet in a frantic rush to feed our lust for materialism. I feel that many people (myself included) were able to stop, reflect and re-evaluate our roles in our lives. Pause Mere waves on this ocean navigating currents of precious space Do less or more Home a sacred place for some Breathe Breathe the light of this divine time Nature revisits Clear air Silent paths Moments Time for less, for more Movement Space Open creative pause. (Kirsty Jones) I hope you enjoy playing ‘Then Nature Breathed’. (For Kirsty) Dan Jones ©www.danjonesguitarist.com2021
