Published by Victor Rebullida (A0.1021516). Haiku is an entertaining work composed as a vocal studio for choir. The intention was to get the choirs to work on the pentatonic scales. In addition, the work is a vocal articulation exercise for singers. It consists of three brief parts, the first two with texts of two haiku and the third based on a Sansa-daiko dance, a dance for taiko drums that is learned by memorizing certain syllables that represent the text of the latter piece. The rhythm is literally that of the dance itself but that melodically is embedded in pentatonic scales just like the two previous pieces.For the management of copyright the work is registered with the SGAE (Copyright Management Society of Spain) The score contains the data of the work and the composer for the management of Rights.The author will appreciate being informed of any interpretation of the work.------------Haiku es una obra divertida que compuse como un estudio vocal para coro. La intención era hacer que los coros trabajasen las escalas pentatónicas. Además la obra es un ejercicio de articulación vocal para los cantantes. Está formada por tres breves partes, las dos primeras con textos de dos haiku y la tercera basada en una danza Sansa-daiko, una danza para tambores taiko que se aprende mediante la memorización de determinadas sÃlabas que suponen el texto de esta última pieza. El ritmo es literalmente el de la propia danza pero que melódicamente está encajada en unas escalas pentatónicas igual que las dos piezas precedentes.El autor agradecerÃa se le comunicase cualquier interpretación de la obra.

The ground breaking Netflix epic TV biopic series was indeed a huge sea change in home streaming content output, bringing together some of Britain's biggest names in theatre, film and TV to portray the history of Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years as the UK monarch. Controversial at times, it had many critics but it was hugely popular with no less than 4 actresses taking on her portrayal.The respect, sensitivity and gravitas we would expect for a histirical drama production like this was self evident from the opening credits and the accompanying music. The theme that Balfe, Gregson Williams and Zimmer created perfectly framed and set up each episode beautifully. A little known fact is that it is based on a song written 400 years before it by Henry Purcell in his 'semi-opera' KING ARTHUR. Cycles for bassoon quartet honors those who lost loved ones in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The title reflects both the living earth upon which we live and the fortitude of humanity. The first movement depicts serenity interrupted by bombastic resemblances of earthquakes and tsunamis. The movement is called The Living Earth as our planet is still evolving by constantly building up pressure and releasing that pressure. The opening serene section uses key clicks and wind sounds in the serenity section. Pitch bends in the melody are designed to resemble a shakuhachi. Syncopated explosions that use polytonal pentatonic scales represent the earthquake. Rapid ascending and descending scale patterns depict the resultant tsunami. The second movement is a hymn song for the souls of the dead. It is called Ashes to Ashes as it represents a different cycle, one of death and rebirth. Pentatonic scales abound once again but this time they modulate gently from one tonality to another instead of being used simultaneously. A song of redemption and hope for the survivors is the theme for the third and final movement, Resiliency of the Spirit. It depicts the strength of the human spirit and it is the cycle of joy growing out of sorrow. Taiko drumming is the major influence in this movement. It begins with a foot stomp followed by the drummers warming up. A staccato rhythmic section that imitates the drums follows this. A hymn-like theme in pentatonic is interpolated over this rhythmic drumming bringing the movement and the piece to a hopeful conclusion.

Largely based on taiko drumming, this piece is very energetic and destructive. At times the ressonance of the 4 drums will create a subwoofer effect that is more felt than heard.

In my search for great pieces, some were too hard, others too easy. So, I decided to write my own.The piece also draws inspiration from funk and Taiko drumming. It also pays homage to the great percussion composer Kevin Tuck and his piece Summon the Spirits, who has created drumming pieces that are the staple of percussion music all around the world.As always, the aim is that the ensemble has fun and enjoys the groove. Coming from a long background of Latin and African drumming styles, my compositions place a heavy emphasis on feeling the rhythm and hearing all the parts lock in, rather than being accurate.

This score is based on the soundtrack to HBO’s Game of Thrones TV mini-series, rather than on the simplified piano arrangement published by Hal Leonard. Ramin Djawadi, the Iranian-German composer of the original soundtrack said, in interview, he used a traditional Japanese tako drum in the background. The TV producers told him : No flutes. He particularly likes to use the cello in his scores and also to have unusual instruments. In my arrangement, I used the cello as the lead instrument, together with strings, a tako drum and bass brass. Also at the end is a very short solo by a Japanese shamisen, a traditional three-string guitar and a short choral background, as in the original score. The tako drum can be replaced by a bass drum; the shamisen can be replaced by an acoustic guitar; and the voices are purely optional.
