Prominent Afro-Haitian pianist and composer Justin Elie’s Tango-Habanera Tropical Dance No. 2 captures the appealing elegance of Caribbean music. Elie studied at the Paris Conservatory and settled in the United States in 1921. His adaptations of Haitian melodies into miniatures led him to performances at Carnegie Hall and international concert venues in addition to composing music for silent films, and in 1931 his own New York radio show, “The Lure of the Tropics.†Arranged for a traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, with alternate parts clarinet in B-flat substitute for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat substitute for horn, and bass clarinet in B-flat substitute for bassoon, the alluring work entices audiences and performers. This tree lines the streets of Buenos Aires which is considered by many to be the birthplace of the Argentinian Tango. Scored for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Horn and Bassoon, this original Tango has two main sections- a passionate and animated section to begin with which clearly states the rhythms associated with the Tango, followed by a contrasting more wistful romantic middle section, which has the Cuban Habanera elements present, from which a Tango is derived. Then the piece returns to the first section taking it to a conclusion Jacaranda is in Concert C minor with the middle section in C major. The range is around two octaves and I have tried to keep all parts interesting with shared moments of melodic and rhythmic interest. It also has wide dynamic contrasts and heavy accents, along with legato and staccato phrasing, all of which are effectively used in this genre.The youtube link  has the full score so you can assess suitability.It is set to Intermediate level- it is 4 mins 40 in length and would make a lovely addition to any programme. Price is for the full score and all parts.

This tree lines the streets of Buenos Aires which is considered by many to be the birthplace of the Argentinian Tango.This original Tango has two main sections- a passionate and animated section to begin with which clearly states the rhythms associated with the Tango, followed by a contrasting more wistful romantic middle section, which has the Cuban habanera elements present, from which a Tango is derived. Then the piece returns to the first section taking it to a conclusionJacaranda is scored for E flat Clarinet, 3 B flat Clarinets, Alto and Bass Clarinet and is in the key of B flat minor (concert) with the middle section in B flat major. The range is around two octaves for all players, and I have tried to keep all parts interesting with shared moments of melodic and rhythmic interest.
