Ae Fond Kiss is perhaps the most popular love song by the great Scottish poetRobert ?Rabbie? Burns.

The poem (its fulltitle being Ae Fond Kiss and then we sever) is usually sung to themelody set here; the traditional Scottish tune 'Mo run an diugh mar an d�thu'.

The text of the poem was inspiredby Burns? friendship with Agnes Maclehose of Edinburgh. Burns wrote the poemfor her in 1791 when she left Edinburgh to join her husband in Jamaica.

The beautiful words tell of thesadness of parting, and it is this sentiment that the player should try tocommunicate when performing Ae Fond Kiss.

This arrangement comes in the following format, all provided in this one download:*A score with notes and TAB*A score with notes only (to facilitate page turns at the request of teachers)*Parts in notes and TAB*Parts with notes onlyThe melody set here is traditionally used for a setting of the beautiful Robert \'Rabbie\' Burns poem \'Ye Banks and Braes\'. The actual melody is much older and its origin unknown.The arrangement here is intended for an ensemble of guitars of mixed levels of experience. The verses and chorus are set in both G major, A major and then G major again. Groups can shorten or lengthen a performance if desired, according to experience.Arrangement details are as follows:Guitar 1 - has the main melody and also plays in harmony with Guitar 2. Higher-position playing is required later in the arrangement, if the the full version is performed.Guitar 2 - often harmonises, and plays in canon with Guitar 1. There is some high-position playing required in the full version.Guitar 3 - is intended for beginners and is an optional part. It consists of dotted half notes (minims) throughout.Guitar 4 - has chords throughout. I have provided chord symbols for those familiar with this system. The harmonies given in the notes and TAB are designed to facilitate left-hand chord changes. This famous Scottish melody exists in sources from 16th Century in Celtic traditions. It is best known today when sung on New Year's Eve using a text by the great Scottish poet Robert 'Rabbie' Burns.

The arrangement has been made with early-level guitarists in mind. The score is provided in notes with TAB below and just notes on a separate sheet in the single download. That way, teachers who wish to avoid TAB can do so easily.

Technically, the piece can be played in second position throughout. There is also the option of finishing a performance after the first G major section. Those wanting a more substantial piece can play the second page which modulates to A major.
