Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1320143 By Ian Munsick. By Dave Villa, Ian Munsick, Jamie Kenney, and Niko Moon. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. 21st Century,Contemporary,Country,Pop,Wedding. Chords/Lyrics. 5 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #908674. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.1320143). Here's a chart designed for the last-minute gigging musician, by the last-minute gigging musician. Indeed, I got called in to sub on a wedding gig on less than a week's notice, and found this song right at the top of the list. Having not played or listened to it... ever, I decided to display some semblance of due dilligence and write out a version that would work in the range of a solo instrumental violin. Then, and don't ask me where this sudden magnanimous streak came from, I decided to spin up the same chart with lyrics and chord diagrams just in case I ever needed to play it with a vocalist.Out of the goodness of my heart, ALL of the above is available to you for the low low price of about 5 bucks. While I was tabbing this out from the perspective of a violinist, the range is pretty universal and should be playable on just about any treble clef instrument. Including the viola... although if you got hired to play solo viola at a wedding or a cocktail hour I have questions. It's nothing spectacular, but here's what I can promise you if you buy this chart:- THE CHORDS ARE RIGHT. I honestly can't believe there are people that get the chords to songs like these wrong on their arrangements, but here we are. Rest assured I am not one of them.- YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ IT. Finale collisions and terrible interpretations of vocal rhythms need not apply here.- THE MELODY WILL WORK ON YOUR INSTRUMENT. Again, this is not one of those hyper-transcriptions of every little vocal ornament that was sang on the studio version. I purposefully chose where to simplify vs. embellish the melody so that there's room for instrumental interpretation without getting lost in the details.May this humble arranger's last-minute busy work bring joy to your audience and at least an extra 30 minutes of sleep to you by not having to learn this song the night before the gig. Enjoy the hustle, friends.

SQ15 ... Hommage à DSCH (2021) for string quartet
Quatuor à cordes: 2 violons, alto, violoncelle
String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869862 Composed …

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869862 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 35 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #6448257. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869862). Dmitri Shostakovich wrote 15 string quartets. As a tribute to him and his glorious music, my 15th string quartet is dedicated to his memory. The first movement takes on a theme that Dmitri Shostakovich has used many times in his music, especially in his String Quartet No. 8 - the DSCH theme. Bach actually came up with the idea. In his Art of the Fugue, the letters in his name Bach is translated to the musical notes: Bb, A, C and B-natural. Dmitri did the same, but in his case the notes are D, Eb, C and B. My first movement begins with the 2nd violin playing an inversion of the DSCH theme: Eb, D, B and C. Then the 1st violin enters with the original DSCH, which is eventually followed by the viola playing the same DSCH theme, but submerged in a fog of harmony. The cello plays a pedal D … for Dimitri. The idea for the second movement Serenade came from his SQ15, second movement, where the 2nd violin and the viola play a fortissimo quadruple stop pizzicati. I coopted his 8-note chord but used only 6 of them for the ostinato pattern in my movement. Incidentally, the publisher forgot to add an alto clef for the viola part … The third movement in the Nocturne is a Largo in 5/4 that features the cello and the 1st violin. It has nothing to do with DSCH’s music, except for the title. The fourth movement is Intermezzo. Both this title and the previous Nocturne are from his SQ15. But the motivic idea is actually something I stole from his SQ4, third movement. In his case it is a repeated C and G in the 2nd violin and viola in 4/4 meter. I kept the repeated G in the 2nd violin, but I altered the viola part and changed the meter to 3/4. It doesn’t sound like DSCH at all. The fifth movement theme is also an idea I grabbed from his SQ4, second movement: A dyad of F and Ab in 3/4, repeated, in an andante movement. I used the same dyad, F and Ab, but slowed it down to a 6/4 and titled it Trauer-Marsch as DSCH did for the fifth movement of his SQ15. The idea for my sixth movement is stolen from DSCH’s SQ2, third movement, which is titled Valse. The 2nd violin and viola play a persistent pah-pah of the usual Oom-pah-pah of a fast waltz. That is what I used (not an uncommon device in all waltzes), but I altered the top line to something more interesting that just repeating the same notes. His waltz begins in Eb minor, but mine is in the relative major of Gb. The last movement is the Epilogue, as it is in DSCH’s SQ15. The only thing I borrowed from his epilogue is the opening chord of an Eb minor triad. The music that follows has nothing to do with DSCH. Mine is a slow, evolving set of chord progressions that sounds like a dirge: gliding through the waters on a gondola in the canals of Venice on its way to Isola di San Michele.

String Quintet Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1317853 Composed by Patrick Prejean. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical. 215 pages. Patrick Prejean #906523. Published by Patrick Prejean (A0.1317853). These dances where written at the request of the executive director of CityMusic Cleveland. They are based and inspired by North and Sub-Saharan African Dances in addition to a reimagining of fairy tales. There are 8 movements making this the biggest project I've ever composed. This quintet may also be performed as a String Orchestra ensemble. I - There is a story about a man named Alexander Dynis (Deniz) who is believed to have ended up in Ruthenia (modern day Ukraine) as a PoW when the Ottomans invaded the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Not much is known about his early life but we do know is that eventually afterwards he was granted the position of Starosta (town mayor/landlord) of Kozieglowy (Poland) by the Bishop of Krakow. He is the only Black starosta that we know of to this day. His story is interesting and is the basis of this movement and was inspired by the soundtrack of a game called Hellish Quart. II - This movement is a dance of ritual which emphasizes the different pitch intonations of the human voices hence the dissonant harmonies. Imagine walking through the savannah and hearing these voices but you are unsure of their intentions. This dance is heavy and percussive. III - This movement is of a young woman who is kidnapped by the Vikings and dreams of escaping captivity. IV - There are 3 distinct motives for this movement which combine to create a battle - like scene, those being the 6 quarter note triplets, the rhythmic motive, and the driving 16th notes.  V - I wanted to create the sounding of the natural horns of the Ancient and Classical Eras and to combine them with a retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood. Her journey begins upon hearing these horns and prompted to ride out to begin her quest.VI/VII/VIII - These movements where edited from my Death Waltzes for the Living. There are hidden titles for number 6 and 7: Loss of Mind and Hospital. These waltzes are a reimagining of Cinderella's life but instead of her story playing out as we know it, she suffers a psychotic break and is transported into our world and rushed to the hospital. The final movement concludes the piece with a Dance of Death. I have had many close encounters with permanent oblivion and the result of this is what I call Hitchcock Horror harmonic language. These encounters supplimented with the dreams of the unconscious realm create an uneasy dance that ends almost as abruptly as they begin.

Clarinet, String Quartet - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 21st Century, 20th Century, Romantic Period, Classical Period, Baroque Period. Score. With Allegro III. 28 pages. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee
Program note.<br> Clarinet Quintet, opus 155 is the fourth work I have written for Nancy Braithwaite. The first one was written on the occasion of her sister’s wedding in Vermont. Nancy premiered the solo clarinet piece “Trinca di Chôro” during the wedding ceremony. The second work was “Yo Picasso” (2007) for clarinet, viola, cello and piano. The work was tailor-made for the Arto Ensemble which consisted of two married couples: Oane (piano) and Nancy (clarinet), and Prunella (viola) and Guus (cello). The third work was “Octet in D, opus 144” (2012) scored for clarinet, horn, bassoon, string quartet and double bass. Nancy and her Dutch colleagues premiered the work in a program with the Schubert Octet in Bunnik, a small village west of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Many great composers have tackled the clarinet quintet, most notable Mozart and Brahms.<br> My Quintet is somewhat different in that there are a lot of jazz elements and something new that I have not tackled before: polymeter.<br> <br> Clarinet Quintet, opus 155 is in seven movements.<br> <br> I. Largo<br> II. Allegro<br> III. Interlude 1 … Presto<br> IV. Adagio<br> V. Reprise … a bit faster than before!<br> VI. Interlude 2 … Adagio<br> VII. Allegro con moto<br> <br> The work begins with a clarinet meditation over pianissimo string chords. The music is very static … not unlike the sacred music of Arvo Pärt. This is followed by an allegro that is in 12/8 featuring a pizzicato jazzy bass figure played by the cello. The third movement is my experiment in polymeter. The ostinato pattern is grouped in a metrical scheme of 4, 3, 4 and 5; but the octave melody in the clarinet and first violin unfolds in standard duple meter of 4. The middle fourth movement is an adagio. This is an example of what I love about music, a soaring melody above slow haunting chords. A reprise of the jazzy Interlude 1 comes next, but in a slightly different guise with new elements, both melodically and harmonically.Interlude 2 is reminiscent of the meditative music of the first movement, but again it is quite different in mood and atmosphere. The finale is another experiment in polymeter. At first the metrical scheme is in a pattern of 4, 3, 4, 3, 2, 3 and 2. But eventually the meters get all scrambled up. Have fun trying to count. You’ll get lost! Above the “oom-pah oom-pah” accompaniment, the clarinet soars like a flying bird … diving, hovering, dipping and swooping!!!<br> <br> ENJOY!!!<br> <br> Audio link. String Ensemble,String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.975915 Composed by Samuel Scheidt. Arranged by Derrick Thom. Lewis. Baroque,Instructional. Score and parts. 19 pages. Derrick Thom. Lewis #6719751. Published by Derrick Thom. Lewis (A0.975915). DON'T FEAR PRE-BACH MUSIC! The idea of 'Progress' in art is fallacious (within reason). Scheidt- Variations on Wehe, Windgen, wehe (Blow Little Winds, Blow) [1624, Halle] This gem of mid-Baroque German meister Sam Scheidt, who (for reference) was 23 yrs. younger than Shakespeare and 98 yrs. than Bach, sounds not-a-bit strange to today's ears. Donald J. (no, not him) Grout says that John Dowland's songs of 1590's sound entirely modern. Well, they do! STING recorded them, if that means anything to you. So then, what have composers been up to for the last 430 years?! I jest, but this piece is terrific. Be advised, the 'runs' are modal, in that the 7th degree is usually NOT just a semitone under the 8th/1st, but a whole tone. A bit like bagpipe music, in our day.

Barabba and Annie Jankowski after The Wolf and the Lamb by Aesop for Soprano, Baritone, Flute, Violin, Viola and CelloIt feels like our national political and social discourse has plummeted to new depths of dysfunction. No matter what your opinions are, you cannot fail to notice that we’ve lost something in our nation when our leaders cannot find a way to disagree with one another with civility. It is hard to feel optimistic, or even know what to do in the face of such petty ugliness that passes for political thought in this nation. For Tyrant I turned to the basic lessons found in Aesop’s fables, which are at heart lessons on being a good member of civil society…lessons that unfortunately I believe our nation needs to re-learn. Soon. The Wolf and the Lamb focuses on someone who consciously makes up lies to justify what he wants to do and feels alarmingly relevant today. Only lightly edited to turn the story into a dramatic scene, it is a very old story intended for the people of 2017.

Published by Barabba Music (A0.1381033). It’s difficult to know what to say about this piece. It will probably always be an aberration when considered as part of my larger body of works. My challenge when writing this piece was to incorporate two different dance styles, and I immediately decided it was time to face the disco music of my childhood. Yes, I had the Bee Gees on LP when I was a kid.…and ABBA…but I left them out of this piece.Obviously, this is meant to be fun. There are direct (if not always obvious) quotations to the following songs:       Anita Ward’s “Ring My Bellâ€Â       “Night Fever†by the Bee Gees       Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive†(Just had to be included)       Lipps Inc’s “Funktownâ€Â       and “Boogie Nights†from HeatwaveThe ancient dance form known as the pavane is, weirdly enough, the perfect pairing with the disco…in that their rhythmic structures easily go together, allowing me to spread the disco material around throughout the piece. In fact, the references to “I Will Survive†are in the slower pavane section, not the disco. The piece is basic A-B-A form (Disco-Pavane-Disco) with a fadeout ending…because in all my research I don’t remember finding a single disco piece that didn’t have a fadeout ending. It just wasn’t done. Please have some fun listening to this piece, because I had a great time writing it. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever written..pdf contains a complete set of score and parts. There are also versions with Flute and Oboe in place of the clarinet available. For more information visit www.jasonbarabba.com.
