A bright full moon is such a splendid and ethereal sight -but it would not be so without the sun. During the darkest nights, the moon and sun work together to provide the night sky with a timeless illumination. You will find that all three instruments have their beautiful individual moments. However, the most brilliant and splendid sections in the piece are a result of their timbres combined and the way their melodic lines intertwine. The piano part is crucial for setting the mood of each section and should be treated with ultimate delicacy and importance. There is no main instrument in this piece. The flute and clarinet come together bringing additional light and life to the majestic landscape that is provided by the piano.

With its debut in 1908 on Broadway in New York City, this pop standard from the Vaudeville show Ziegfried's Follies has been covered by such artists as Liza Minelli, Bing Crosby, and as late as 2017, by Indie folk singer Mree (Marie Hsiao).Shine on Harvest Moon also has a long association with Hollywood films such as Shine on Harvest Moon (1932 animation), a Roy Rogers' western, Pennies from Heaven, and the British comedy show Shine on Harvey Moon. Finding the Star is a slow-moving piece that draws out the idea of time being slowed down when one is lost. The theme of this piece is the idea of being lost at sea. The slow ground bass starts, the churning of the dark waves against the side of the ship. The sky and sea are the same type of dark, not a star or light can be seen anywhere above or below. On deck the crew wait for an order, though they are scared, there’s nothing they can do. They cannot make the star appear, and they cannot give direction without certainty that they’re going in the right direction. The waves turn and grow and often push the ship around, making everyone nervous, if they completely get turned they could get lost. The voices of the instruments trade places and come in and out of each other. Dancing around each other making a beautiful eerie melody. At the very end of the piece, the star is found. The clouds move and the moons bright light shines down on the weary travelers and they find hope again.

Having worked primarily nightshift for the past few years, my life began a somewhat alternative nature – my day time was illuminated by the moon, and I watched the sun rise every day for three and a half years…I saw the city through different eyes, and watched as various denizens of the night would emerge and cavort beneath The Midnight Sun. I was exposed to an entirely different culture and learned that the city really didn’t sleep after all. The piece starts with the decline of the sun as the shadows grow longer and the creatures of the night begin to emerge beneath the stars. Secondly, we observe the midnight moon which acts as our illumination in the dark of night. Continuing on, the piece begins its celestial dance among the stars of the Northern hemisphere and finally ends with the emergence of dawn – the night slipping away like fragile tendrils of fog, or the vague ether of a dream. David Jaedyn Conley, 2005 Composer David Jaedyn Conley moves easily between the stridency of the Moderns and the sweetness of the Romantics. This unstable, suspenseful work details the the prophesied disastrous signs that will precede Christ's Second Coming through the use of asymetrical time signatures, whereas Christ's depicted descent from the heavens is the only part of the piece in 4/4, arguably the most comforting time signature. In fact, the title, Signs of the Times, is actually a play on words of the term time signatures, which is the main gimmick of the piece.
