Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787256 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Patriotic. Octavo. 12 pages. Burke & Bagley #49733. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787256). The Promise of Liberty, available for either SATB or unison/2-part treble choir with optional guitar or piano accompaniment, is an adaptation of the sonnet The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (1883). The sonnet was written to raise money for the construction of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal and has graced the entrance to the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor since 1945. The chorus for this work is adapted from the Lazarus poem, while the verses are new text written by the composer. Duration ca. 3 minutes. The Promise of Liberty Winds blow fierce and foul storms rage. Safe shelter seems a hopeless dream. But in the dark a promise beams, a beacon to a golden age. [Chorus] Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Give me the wretched from your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door, I lift my lamp beside the golden door. So cries the strong heroic woman, raising her arm to light the way. Her words ring out from day to day to greet each wave of immigrants. [Repeat chorus] Some crossed the sea in a tempest squall. More came by land up the hemisphere. Still there's room for everyone here. The promise of liberty welcomes all. [Repeat chorus] Winds still blow and storms still threaten the shelter we build in this new land. But here we weave a fabric grand Made strong from many colored threads. [Repeat chorus].

The Royal Hussar (Ceremonial Slow March) for Concert/Wind Band ''Keith Terrett Classic March Collect

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.746511 Composed by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Patriotic,World. 32 pages. Keith Terrett #1989071. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746511). A slow march I entitled The Royal Hussar, is an original ceremonial slow march of mine, suitable for indoor or outdoor performance. Slow March: This is a ceremonial pace, used for funeral marches and when a unit’s colours are marched out in front of the troops. The feet are kept parallel to the ground and the arms are never used. In the United States Marine Corps, arms swing as the distance they normally would in quicktime, but at the same pace as marching. U.S. Marine Color Guards do not swing their arms. Slow March is typically used in the Marine Corps for funeral details and ceremonies such as the Marine Corps Ball (when the cake is escorted out). In Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines this is done during religious processions whenever a military band joins it. This march style is the official parade march in the armed forces of Bolivia and Ecuador and the military academies and schools of Venezuela, done with the goose step during parades and ceremonies. The standard pace is 60 paces per minute. Famous slow marches include:Preobrajensky Regimental Slow March Presented to the Royal Marines by Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 10th June 1964 and first performed as the Regimental Slow March of the Royal Marines on Horse Guards Parade that night. The march was composed by the Russian composer Donajowsky for the Russian Tzar’s Preobrajensky Guard. The Royal Hussars Slow March ’Coburg’, a tune composed by Haydn and arranged by Grant-James in the late 19th Century, is without doubt one of the most well-known and famous Slow Marches to be written. ’The Eagle’, which itself is a combination of the 14th and 20th Hussars slow marches is also a very strong march, but not widely known outside 14th/20th King’s Hussars’ circles. The Garb of Old Gaul (sometimes given as Auld Gaul) is an 18th-century patriotic Scottish march and song about Highland soldiers during the Seven Years War. The music was written by General John Reid, who was a senior officer of the 42nd Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) during the Seven Years War. The words have traditionally been attributed to Sir Harry Erskine (1710 -1765). Robert Burns described it as This excellent loyal Scottish song and states that it first appeared in print in Herd’s Collection of 1769. Alternative titles include The Highland Character and The Highland or 42nd Regiment’s March. The tune was originally a quick march but was later rearranged as a slow march. Other famous slow marches of the British Army include Golden Spurs & Scipio. Put away Scipio, Coburg & Garb of Old gaul, time for a newcomer on the block! Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8322-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,World. 50 pages. John Ivor Holland #996173. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1414403). The Last Emperor is a 1987 epic biographical drama film about the life of Puyi, the final Emperor of China. It is directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and depicts Puyi's life from his ascent to the throne as a small boy to his imprisonment and political rehabilitation by the Chinese Communist Party. It premiered at the 1987 Tokyo International Film Festival, earning widespread positive reviews from critics and was also a commercial success. At the 60th Academy Awards, it won all nine Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also won several other accolades, including three BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, nine David di Donatello Awards, and a Grammy Award for its musical score, which features nine pieces composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, five by David Byrne, one from Cong Su, and a few incidental pieces of source music. 'Open The Door' occurs quite early in the film and can be considered to be one of the main themes, often performed instrumentally in concert by Ryuichi Sakamoto - as a song, with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, it is not often heard, so this piece would work on many levels in a concert of film music.

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45183 Martin Luther. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45183. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45183). On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of faith ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the Luther rose which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, white is the colour of angels and ghosts, black stands for the pain of crucification: The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified. But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The Danse macabre was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen from 1524 (Enchiridion from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant Media vita in morte sumus created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen, are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a perpetuum mobile, i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The Mighty Fortress, on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the Marseille anthem of the Reformation, Friedrich Engels the Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant birdcall version of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the ideals of freedom of Christians.'.

Facing West is drawn from the Children of Adam book from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. The full title of the poem is Facing West From California's Shores. Though Whitman never visited California, his biographer Justin Kaplan made the insightful observation that he imagined California's shores to be the starting point for a journey through time and culture. Here was Walt, 'a child, very old,' facing home again, looking over to it, joyous, as after long travel, growth, and sleep, asking: 'But where is what I started for, so long ago?/And why is it yet unfound?' The invitation from the International Orange Chorale to compose a piece in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge led me easily and naturally to this great poem. The tone of Facing West is rich and complex, and draws on one of Whitman's favorite themes of using travel to distant lands as a metaphor for spiritual development. In his poem, Whitman strikes notes of reflection, of longing for adventure, and ultimately ends with a question. The continuing relevance of this question is for me beautifully addressed by the contemporary American writer Edmund White in his 1980 book States of Desire. To paraphrase somewhat, White writes: California is where dreams may come true, and the problem it presents is whether, after all, we wanted these particular dreams to be fulfilled - or would we have preferred others? Did we know what price these dreams would exact? Did we anticipate the ways in which they would unsuit us for the business of daily life? Or should our notion of daily life itself be transformed? For Americans, California's coast is as far as one can go in establishing new roots and new ways of living. As a transplanted Midwesterner who has made California his home for nearly three decades, I experience the Golden Gate Bridge as a beautiful monument to the aspirations and dreams of a restless and inventive people, qualities that Whitman's poem captures perfectly. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264075 By The Police. By Sting. Arranged by Pablo Alcázar. Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Individual part. 3 pages. Pablo Alcázar #856983. Published by Pablo Alcázar (A0.1264075). This arrangement of Every Breath you Take (for solo guitar) fits perfectly for Classical (spanish) and acoustic guitars because every chord sounds fully along with the melody and the bass gives a unique feeling of the rhythm. It's made for solo guitar and it's appropiate for begginers that look for a challenge or intermediate guitarist that want something fresh and new to play. Also is a very good arrangement for professional players that need repertoire for wedding events.Every Breath You Take is a song by the English rock band the Police from their album Synchronicity (1983). Written by Sting, the single was the biggest US and Canadian hit of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks (the band's only No. 1 hit on that chart), and the Canadian RPM Chart for four weeks. Their fifth UK No. 1, it topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. The song also reached the Top 10 in numerous other countries.Sting wrote the song in 1982 in the aftermath of his separation from Frances Tomelty and the beginning of his relationship with Trudie Styler. Their split was controversial. As The Independent reported in 2006, The problem was, he was already married – to actress Frances Tomelty, who just happened to be Trudie's best friend. Sting and Frances lived next door to Trudie in Bayswater, West London, for several years before the two of them became lovers. The affair was widely condemned. To escape the public eye, Sting retreated to the Caribbean. He started writing the song at Ian Fleming's writing desk on the Goldeneye estate in Oracabessa, Jamaica. The lyrics are the words of a possessive lover who is watching every breath you take; every move you make. Sting recalled:I woke up in the middle of the night with that line in my head, sat down at the piano and had written it in half an hour. The tune itself is generic, an aggregate of hundreds of others, but the words are interesting. It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn't realise at the time how sinister it is. I think I was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control..

Baritone Horn TC,Flugelhorn,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1121043 Composed by Thomas Morley. Arranged by Richard Decker. Contest,Early Music,Festival,Multicultural,Renaissance,World. 36 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #722234. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.1121043). These three lively madrigals arranged for brass trio provide an engaging interlude to any chamber concert, indoors or outdoors. As composer and organist, editor and publisher, Thomas Morley was a significant influence in the musical absorption of the Italian Madrigal style into English vocal music during the last decade of the 16th century. Trained by William Byrd, Morley and his early Three-Part Canzonets (1593) showed his remarkable ability to combine his own individual musical creativity with the essence of the popular Italian Madrigals, resulting in the golden era of the English Madrigal School. The trio is scored for trumpet in B-flat with an alternate C trumpet part, horn in F with an alternate flugelhorn part, and trombone with an alternate treble clef euphonium part. The recording is of the entire edition.See 50+ homogeneous brass editions for trumpet, horn and trombone ensembles and 75+ mixed brass ensemble publications with Charles Decker Music Press at Sheet Music Plus for inexperienced to advanced musicians with music ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary new works for trios, quartets, quintets, brass choir and brass band.
