Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

She was 91 and had been poorly with many different illnesses for the previous 6 months, so we knew it was coming. But the timing and unfathomable sadness of her death, together with the start of a worldwide pandemic, little did I know it at the time, was to bring forth from me a tsunami of music the likes of which I hadn’t written for many years. A set of six solo studies for various members of the clarinet family came first, written between March 20th and April 20th. As I wrote them they were orchestrating themselves in my head and forming something else as well. That “something else†grew and grew, as the Six Studies intertwined themselves around each other and expanded together, joining forces with two brand new themes to form what soon was to become an immense orchestral work. The title was easy. Glastry is a tiny district in the middle of the Co.Down countryside of Northern Ireland, where my Mum was born and brought up. And Pearl was her name. Her full name was actually Margaret Mary Ward (eventually to become Denny when she married my Dad, Colum Denny, from Belfast), but everyone always called her Pearl. The nickname was bestowed upon her just after she was born on February 28th 1929 and stuck ever since. The Glastry Pearl is a tribute to my Mum and the great and mighty person she was to me and all who knew her. It employs at least one theme or motif from each of the Six Studies For Various Solo Clarinets and uses them throughout the work in the from of Leitmotifs. It was only when the work was nearing completion that I began to wonder how to describe it. Freddy Naftel, a good composer friend of mine, suggested that Tone Poem was a fitting description and I immediately agreed. The music itself is completely tonal and highly Romantic, yet also peppered with exciting contemporary disonance. I believe it to be a good, and hopefully fun, challenge to symphony orchestras, both professional and high standard amateur alike. It offers everything from the the somber opening to the hilarious and wildly energetic central Waltz, to the glorious soaring final section, so plenty of variety to please many palates.

Piano and orchestra - difficult - Digital Download For piano and orchestra. Composed by Gyorgy Ligeti (1923-2006). This edition: solo part. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q53630. Published by Schott Music - Digital
I composed the Piano Concerto in two stages: the first three movements during the years 1985-86, the next two in 1987, the final autograph of the last movement was ready by January, 1988. The concerto is dedicated to the American conductor Mario di Bonaventura. . The markings of the movements are the following: . 1. Vivace molto ritmico e preciso . 2. Lento e deserto . 3. Vivace cantabile . 4. Allegro risoluto . 5. Presto luminoso. The first performance of the three-movement Concerto was on October 23rd, 1986 in Graz. Mario di Bonaventura conducted while his brother, Anthony di Bonaventura, was the soloist. Two days later the performance was repeated in the Vienna Konzerthaus. After hearing the work twice, I came to the conclusion that the third movement is not an adequate finale. my feeling of form demanded continuation, a supplement. That led to the composing of the next two movements. The premiere of the whole cycle took place on February 29th, 1988, in the Vienna Konzerthaus with the same conductor and the same pianist. . The orchestra consisted of the following: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, percussion and strings. The flautist also plays the piccoIo, the clarinetist, the alto ocarina. The percussion is made up of diverse instruments, which one musician-virtuoso can play. It is more practical, however, if two or three musicians share the instruments. Besides traditional instruments the percussion part calls also for two simple wind instruments: the swanee whistle and the harmonica. The string instrument parts (two violins, viola, cello and doubles bass) can be performed soloistic since they do not contain divisi. For balance, however, the ensemble playing is recommended, for example 6-8 first violins, 6-8 second, 4-6 violas, 4-6 cellos, 3-4 double basses. . In the Piano Concerto I realized new concepts of harmony and rhythm. . The first movement is entirely written in bimetry: simultaneously 12/8 and 4/4 (8/8). This relates to the known triplet on a doule relation and in itself is nothing new. Because, however, I articulate 12 triola and 8 duola pulses, an entangled, up till now unheard kind of polymetry is created. The rhythm is additionally complicated because of asymmetric groupings inside two speed layers, which means accents are asymmetrically distributed. These groups, as in the talea technique, have a fixed, continuously repeating rhythmic structures of varying lengths in speed layers of 12/8 and 4/4. This means that the repeating pattern in the 12/8 level and the pattern in the 4/4 level do not coincide and continuously give a kaleidoscope of renewing combinations. . In our perception we quickly resign from following particular rhythmical successions and that what is going on in time appears for us as something static, resting. This music, if it is played properly, in the right tempo and with the right accents inside particular layers, after a certain time rises, as it were, as a plane after taking off: the rhythmic action, too complex to be able to follow in detail, begins flying. This diffusion of individual structures into a different global structure is one of my basic compositional concepts: from the end of the fifties, from the orchestral works Apparitions and Atmospheres I continuously have been looking for new ways of resolving this basic question. The harmony of the first movement is based on mixtures, hence on the parallel leading of voices. This technique is used here in a rather simple form. later in the fourth movement it will be considerably developed. . The second movement (the only slow one amongst five movements) also has a talea type of structure, it is however much simpler rhythmically, because it contains only one speed layer. The melody is consisted in the development of a rigorous interval mode in which two minor seconds and one major second alternate therefore nine notes inside an octave. This mode is transposed into different degrees and it also determines the harmony of the movement. however, in closing episode in the piano part there is a combination of diatonics (white keys) and pentatonics (black keys) led in brilliant, sparkling quasimixtures, while the orchestra continues to play in the nine tone mode. . In this movement I used isolated sounds and extreme registers (piccolo in a very low register, bassoon in a very high register, canons played by the swanee whistle, the alto ocarina and brass with a harmon-mute' damper, cutting sound combinations of the piccolo, clarinet and oboe in an extremely high register, also alternating of a whistle-siren and xylophone). The third movement also has one speed layer and because of this it appears as simpler than the first, but actually the rhythm is very complicated in a different way here. Above the uninterrupted, fast and regular basic pulse, thanks to the asymmetric distribution of accents, different types of hemiolas and inherent melodical patterns appear (the term was coined by Gerhard Kubik in relation to central African music). If this movement is played with the adequate speed and with very clear accentuation, illusory rhythmic-melodical figures appear. These figures are not played directly. they do not appear in the score, but exist only in our perception as a result of co-operation of different voices. . Already earlier I had experimented with illusory rhythmics, namely in Poeme symphonique for 100 metronomes (1962), in Continuum for harpsichord (1968), in Monument for two pianos (1976), and especially in the first and sixth piano etude Desordre and Automne a Varsovie (1985). . The third movement of the Piano Concerto is up to now the clearest example of illusory rhythmics and illusory melody. In intervallic and chordal structure this movement is based on alternation, and also inter-relation of various modal and quasi-equidistant harmony spaces. The tempered twelve-part division of the octave allows for diatonical and other modal interval successions, which are not equidistant, but are based on the alternation of major and minor seconds in different groups. The tempered system also allows for the use of the anhemitonic pentatonic scale (the black keys of the piano). From equidistant scales, therefore interval formations which are based on the division of an octave in equal distances, the twelve-tone tempered system allows only chromatics (only minor seconds) and the six-tone scale (the whole-tone: only major seconds). . Moreover, the division of the octave into four parts only minor thirds) and three parts (three major thirds) is possible. In several music cultures different equidistant divisions of an octave are accepted, for example, in the Javanese slendro into five parts, in Melanesia into seven parts, popular also in southeastern Asia, and apart from this, in southern Africa. This does not mean an exact equidistance: there is a certain tolerance for the inaccurateness of the interval tuning. . These exotic for us, Europeans, harmony and melody have attracted me for several years. However I did not want to re-tune the piano (microtone deviations appear in the concerto only in a few places in the horn and trombone parts led in natural tones). After the period of experimenting, I got to pseudo- or quasiequidistant intervals, which is neither whole-tone nor chromatic: in the twelve-tone system, two whole-tone scales are possible, shifted a minor second apart from each other. Therefore, I connect these two scales (or sound resources), and for example, places occur where the melodies and figurations in the piano part are created from both whole tone scales. in one band one six-tone sound resource is utilized, and in the other hand, the complementary. In this way whole-tonality and chromaticism mutually reduce themselves: a type of deformed equidistancism is formed, strangely brilliant and at the same time slanting. illusory harmony, indeed being created inside the tempered twelve-tone system, but in sound quality not belonging to it anymore. . The appearance of such slantedequidistant harmony fields alternating with modal fields and based on chords built on fifths (mainly in the piano part), complemented with mixtures built on fifths in the orchestra, gives this movement an individual, soft-metallic colour (a metallic sound resulting from harmonics). . The fourth movement was meant to be the central movement of the Concerto. Its melodc-rhythmic elements (embryos or fragments of motives) in themselves are simple. The movement also begins simply, with a succession of overlapping of these elements in the mixture type structures. Also here a kaleidoscope is created, due to a limited number of these elements - of these pebbles in the kaleidoscope - which continuously return in augmentations and diminutions. . Step by step, however, so that in the beginning we cannot hear it, a compiled rhythmic organization of the talea type gradually comes into daylight, based on the simultaneity of two mutually shifted to each other speed layers (also triplet and duoles, however, with different asymmetric structures than in the first movement). While longer rests are gradually filled in with motive fragments, we slowly come to the conclusion that we have found ourselves inside a rhythmic-melodical whirl: without change in tempo, only through increasing the density of the musical events, a rotation is created in the stream of successive and compiled, augmented and diminished motive fragments, and increasing the density suggests acceleration. . Thanks to the periodical structure of the composition, always new but however of the same (all the motivic cells are similar to earlier ones but none of them are exactly repeated. the general structure is therefore self-similar), an impression is created of a gigantic, indissoluble network. Also, rhythmic structures at first hidden gradually begin to emerge, two independent speed layers with their various internal accentuations. . This great, self-similar whirl in a very indirect way relates to musical associations, which came to my mind while watching the graphic projection of the mathematical sets of Julia and of Mandelbrot made with the help of a computer. I saw these wonderful pictures of fractal creations, made by scientists from Brema, Peitgen and Richter, for the first time in 1984. From that time they have played a great role in my musical concepts. This does not mean, however, that composing the fourth movement I used mathematical methods or iterative calculus. indeed, I did use constructions which, however, are not based on mathematical thinking, but are rather craftman's constructions (in this respect, my attitude towards mathematics is similar to that of the graphic artist Maurits Escher). .I am concerned rather with intuitional, poetic, synesthetic correspondence, not on the scientific, but on the poetic level of thinking. . The fifth, very short Presto movement is harmonically very simple, but all the more complicated in its rhythmic structure: it is based on the further development of ''inherent patterns of the third movement. The quasi-equidistance system dominates harmonically and melodically in this movement, as in the third, alternating with harmonic fields, which are based on the division of the chromatic whole into diatonics and anhemitonic pentatonics. Polyrhythms and harmonic mixtures reach their greatest density, and at the same time this movement is strikingly light, enlightened with very bright colours: at first it seems chaotic, but after listening to it for a few times it is easy to grasp its content: many autonomous but self-similar figures which crossing themselves. . I present my artistic credo in the Piano Concerto: I demonstrate my independence from criteria of the traditional avantgarde, as well as the fashionable postmodernism. Musical illusions which I consider to be also so important are not a goal in itself for me, but a foundation for my aesthetical attitude. I prefer musical forms which have a more object-like than processual character. Music as frozen time, as an object in imaginary space evoked by music in our imagination, as a creation which really develops in time, but in imagination it exists simultaneously in all its moments. The spell of time, the enduring its passing by, closing it in a moment of the present is my main intention as a composer. . (Gyorgy Ligeti)

Small Ensemble Flute,Piano,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.889815 Composed by Ginny Saltzman (Bethlehem Angel) and The First Noel - Traditional. Christmas. Score and parts. 9 pages. Ginny's House of Music #4362443. Published by Ginny's House of Music (A0.889815). *Bethlehem Angel and The First Noel This is a very beautifully flowing presentation which includes both an original work by this composer entitled Bethlehem Angel and an arrangement of The First Noel. It includes scriptures and lyrics. It was written for flute, guitar, voice, and piano accompaniment on Intermediate Level.  It is based on the scriptures Luke 2: 8-11 --- And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord and Matthew 2:1-10 ---- Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judea, art not the least among the princes of Judea: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.Â

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1044425 By Lisa Waites. By Lisa Waites. Arranged by Lisa Waites. Folk,Holiday,Multicultural,Praise & Worship,Sacred,World. Score. 2 pages. Servant Song Music and Ministry #649158. Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.1044425). I wrote this reconciliation hymn back in 2016, when elders from the Blood Tribe, Metis, Piikani, and Siksika nations of Southern Alberta led the Reconciliation Week events at Medicine Hat College, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. They invited me to write and teach this hymn as part of the sessions at MHC, where I was (then) the ecumenical Chaplain. It has been an honour to participate in this annual tradition of indigenous leaders sharing their distinctive cultural practices, traditions, and values with the public in Medicine Hat (and the surrounding communities) for a decade, now. During the session I was asked to assist with, the Elders were sharing the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings, and so I included these core values into the lyrics of the hymn. The work in Medicine Hat started with expressions of lament and support from a group of local churches and the Medicine Hat College Chaplaincy program while the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was crossing the country. We quickly realized that many non-indigenous Canadians genuinely wanted to learn more about their First Nations, Metis, and Inuit neighbours. Seeing an urgent need for greater awareness about the intergenerational damage that was done by the Indian Residential School system here in Canada, and also identifying these Reconciliation events as a way to decrease racist stereotypes and assumptions about indigenous peoples, we decided to continue offering an annual reconciliation session, which grew, year by year. A decade later, I'm delighted to have seen deeper, healthier relationships being built between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Musically, this hymn loosely imitates the style of the French Canadian Voyageurs, the folk melodies of the 18th and 19th centuries. The lyrics incorporate the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings. This core ethical framework has many different versions, but many First Nations communities have adopted these teachings in some form. (I've heard Elders say that Respect must come first, because it is the foundation that we build on, but for this particular group at Medicine Hat College, Humility was first on the list). I have Metis ancestry myself, and as an adult, I have researched the long-hidden genealogical and cultural treasures of my family tree. Whether you are an indigenous person looking to support other indigenous Christian composers, or whether you are a non-indigenous person who is trying to broaden the repertoire of your congregation, We Must Learn to Walk Together is an upbeat, hope-filled hymn that sings about reconciliation as if it is not only possible in the distant future - but also achievable today, using the concrete steps suggested by the lyrics. The indigenous wisdom of the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings lines up beautifully with the teachings of Christ. Musically, this hymn is highly accessible for congregational singing; the range is moderate and the rhythms provide musical interest without becoming overly complex; to hear the guitar version and melody line of the hymn being played and sung by the composer, please go to the following YouTube link: https://youtu.be/3DpkFCLxgEs. The musical format of the hymn alternates between the chorus and three verses. The piece takes roughly 3:30 to perform. This hymn has been transcribed in the key of C Major, so it is as easy as possible for church accompanists to play and for congregations to sing; guitarists are invited to play in the key of A Major and simply capo 3. Guitar chords are included. I hope and pray that this hymn for reconciliation will help you, your congregation, and the wider community to think about, pray for, and enact the calls to action of the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission in new and deeper ways this year.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208741 Composed by Adam Lenhart. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 33 pages. Adam Lenhart #806841. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.1208741). Introduction to The Rubáiyát of Omar KhayyámThe Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a Persian poetry collection first put together in 1460 in Shiraz.  It consists of quatrains, four-line poems, with a set of unconventional themes.  The poetry is irreligious and questions the afterlife and God's providence.  It shows keen awareness of the shortness of life and the finality of death. It advises therefore that every fleeting moment of every day should be savored, with wine, lovers and song. The combination of a serious philosophy of life and a carefree attitude has made the poetry popular for centuries.  In 1859, Edward FitzGerald brought out a loose English translation that took the world by storm.  It became the most beloved and widely known poem in the English language for decades until its popularity finally faded in the late twentieth century. Although they were attributed to the great mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayyam (d. 1131), the poems were by many anonymous hands, and he was just a frame author, akin to Scheherezade in the Arabian Nights.- Dr. Juan Cole, Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of MichiganAbout the CompositionTwo Scenes from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám explores and embodies two of the main themes that carry throughout the quatrains of the poem collection. In FitzGerald's translation, the quatrains follow a day to night cycle. The two movements reflect this by starting off with an abrupt wake up section and ending the piece with a nocturne.  The first movement, Wine, celebrates the camaraderie, joy and chaos that comes through the physical joy of being with friends. The clarinet, violin and piano interact in a conversational way, talking, laughing, and insulting one another in their own independent lines. The second movement is entitled Intimacy and explores the emotional joy of connecting with one another. The movement is set in a waltz style dance and draws influence from Chopin, Liszt and other romantic era composers. This is juxtaposed by youthful and energetic phrases so that the piece embodies all forms of love: young love, years of marriage and even friendship. Each movement has a sense of urgency and density which is present in the rubá'iyát as well, expressing to the reader that our time on Earth is so short and to make the most of each day.---------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition, and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. Octavo. 11 pages. Carol Troutman Wiggins #2907289. Published by Carol Troutman Wiggins (A0.727123). The Christmas WishVocal Solo for AltoWould you like a different kind of Christmas wish this year? Here it is!This song is based on the poem Christmas Wishes written by contemporary author and poet Mary White Pustrom. Mary wrote many poems with the theme of Christmas, including what she thought people should wish for at Christmas. While so many adults wish for a new car, a sparkling diamond ring, or celebrating with a nice vacation in the tropics, she believes that Christmas wishes should be taken a step further by considering the wishes and needs of others more so than our own. In her poem Christmas Wishes, her desire for reaching out to others and granting them their wishes for the simple things in life take on great meaning: Christmas Wishes by Mary White Pustrom Now that Christmas is drawing near I cannot help but seeAll the poor and needy people who are reaching out to me. It seems that everywhere I look there is a need to fill; I feel so inadequate when their wishes I can't fill. Among the lights and decorations, there is hunger and despair, Faces filled with sadness while bright carols fill the air; Little children who are cold and hungry wait for Santa Claus, Wishing that he would bring them food, for that's a worthy cause. Others laughing, smiling, singing - so completely unaware Of all the pain and suffering that's around them everywhere; They wish for generosity in our thoughts, time, and deeds, And wish that here at Christmas time, someone could fill their needs. My wish is that we reach out to our sisters and our brothers, Who depend on us for kindness from one to another; Fill our hearts with Christmas cheer, and teach us how to share, So that Christmas wishes will be fulfilled all throughout the year. It sounds like she might have the right idea. At this time of year, it is so easy to get caught up in buying and receiving presents, the lights, and the Christmas tree, without considering the simple needs of others. Maybe this year, these simple wishes will come true for some: · Sick little children to be healed · Homeless people and children to find a family · For the less fortunate to have enough food, clothing, shelter, and shoes on their feet · That no one spends Christmas lonely and alone, and spent the way it should be, with loving family and friends. Most of all, wish that by caring for one another, Christmas wishes would come true all year long. ~ Carol Troutman Wiggins

The road, also known as the A93, runs between the towns of Blairgowrie and Braemar, and is considered one of the most challenging and scenic drives in Scotland. The origins of the name Devil's Elbow are unclear, but legend has it that the devil himself had a hand in shaping the road. According to folklore, the devil was tasked with creating a road through the hills of the Scottish Highlands, and he chose to build it along the most treacherous and winding path he could find. As he worked, he encountered a particularly difficult section of the road where the hills formed a sharp bend, and he bent the rocks to create a tight hairpin turn that became known as the Devil's Elbow. In reality, the road was likely shaped by centuries of erosion and human activity. The section of road that makes up the Devil's Elbow is part of a larger route that has been used for centuries by traders, farmers, and travelers crossing the Scottish Highlands. The road was improved and expanded over time, and the modern A93 was officially completed in 1932.Despite its treacherous reputation, the Devil's Elbow is a popular destination for tourists and driving enthusiasts. The road offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and the hairpin turn at the Devil's Elbow is considered a particular challenge for drivers and cyclists.Today, the Devil's Elbow remains a beloved part of Scotland's landscape and history, and its legend continues to capture the imaginations of visitors and locals alike. Whether you're a traveler seeking adventure or a history buff looking to explore Scotland's rich cultural heritage, the Devil's Elbow is a must-see destination that will leave a lasting impression.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027334 Composed by Jeremy Goh, Daniel Cheng. Contemporary. Score and parts. 23 pages. Jeremy Goh #12123. Published by Jeremy Goh (A0.1027334). We present a work composed as a tongue-in-cheek expression of a popular street tune heard today, put through a series of 5 variations that explore different styles. It works in both a satirical as well as sophisticated manner vertically and horizontally, and uses multiple cliches that will get the audience perking up in recognition. The theme, 贺新年, is a common tune sung in Chinese New Year celebrations. In the heart of celebrating the New Year, this piece is written playable by musicians of all ages, whether in schools or as community orchestras and bands, to come together by the common celebratory notion in a work for an extended orchestra, including the saxophone and euphonium. Written by Daniel Cheng and Jeremy Goh, we hope that this season this piece can bring both laughter and reverence to the street tune, blown out of proportion in style and size. Starting the work is an atonal entry, built on tone rows and planing, legacies of Shoenberg and his contemporaries, before decomposing into an exceedingly lively statement of the theme. This is then juxtaposed beside a trip to tribal communities with interlocking rhythms and a modal distortion of the melody. From the modal mess and deviation from diatonicism, we then return to the prim and proper style of Mozart and Haydn in a short Classical variation. As if to mock its neat stature, this then is shattered with a juxtaposition beside a variation in the style of Shostakovich, modelled after the controversial Leningrad symphony, which draws on a different dimension of the theme, its banality, and propagating and emulsifying it to terrifying levels as it is distorted. Finally, a schreckenfanfare is directed marking an entry into a tribute to one of the greatest legends in music composition, with Beethoven along with its transcendental qualities of cyclism, and use of learned styles, methods of maintaining tension etc., bringing a grand ending to the 10 minute long work.

Published by Larry Andrew Williams (A0.1167528). A WORD FROM THE COMPOSER Is anyone interested in new reading material anymore? I know that when I was a kid in nineteen hundred and something, the quest for new musical pieces was always one of the funnest aspects of the whole musical journey. Of course I did learn that it would take a long time to  nd those few that would resonate with me for a lifetime, but it was always fun trying them all out. It still is, in fact. Well, times change and people change, but I’d still like to believe that same factor carries on. You know, the one about trying out all that music to get to the few you keep. And what about the few we do keep? For guitar players, was it always a classic from the usual suspects, like Albeniz, Sor, Tarrega,, Granados, Rodrigo, Brouwer, Barrios, Villa-Lobos, or anything by Bach? Was it something our band director or private instructor, one of our friends, or our parents wrote? Or – Heaven forbid- something that maybe we ourselves wrote? Or some “unknown guy.â€Â Consider this.Just how often did some unknown composer's piece greatly affect us as we waded through a daunting pile of the familiar from the known masters? And since some, if not most of these classics are required reading, how often did we even get around to giving this unknown guy's piece a try?And furthermore, was this unknown guy - shudder...alive? Let’s face it. In the composer arena, we the living, stand no chance against the deceased (God rest their souls) But by saying “they don’t write ‘em like that anymore,†are we denying ourselves new ground to be broken, doors to be opened, frontiers to be discovered? And isn’t that pioneering spirit just plain ol’ curiosity when it comes right down to it? Well I believe the key lies within the carrying out of these notions that curiosity places in us. It’s climbing the mountain simply because it is there. So, for right now, I’m that unknown guy and I would only urge you to break new ground every day. Lots of trends, ideas, and interests will come and go in your life, but always hang on to that curiosity. It’s what makes the world a smaller neighborhood. Larry Williams.

Flex on the Move is a fun and creative approach to developing flexibility on all brass instruments. Available for trumpet, trombone and tuba. 42 pages and a lifetime of material!<br> Flex on the Move<br> There are many great books on flexibility (or “lip flexibility” as it is commonly called) available to today’s brass players. The commonly used books include Irons 27 Groups, Smith Lip Flexibilities and Colin Advanced Lip Flexibilities. Flexibility studies do go all the way back to Arban and St, Jacome, but became a staple of brass pedagogy in the early 20th Century through teachers and authors like Del Staigers, Herbert L. Clarke, Earl D. Irons and Walter M. Smith.<br> <br> There are different categories of flexibility exercises. There is “Long Flexibility” like those found in Colin’s Vol. I of Advanced Lip Flexibilities. With Long Flexibility you stay on one fingering and play a long line that takes you through a large range. Then, there is “Short Flexibility” similar to what is found in Irons and Smith where you play a repeated pattern on one fingering. Most flexibility falls into the Short Flexibility category. With this book, I would like to add “Moving Flexibility” to the list. With Moving Flexibility you play a short pattern that takes you up and down through all the fingerings, covering a large range on your instrument. The idea of Moving Flexibility was first introduced in Arban p. 45 #16 and later in Charles Colin, 100 Original Warm-Ups.<br> <br> Why Practice Flexibility?<br> Chances are, you’re not going to stand in front of an audience and perform flexibility studies. Flexibility studies are a means to an end, not the end. Most trumpet players practice some form of flexibility every day as it improves overall technique and gets you ready to play music. In our lessons, Claude Gordon would tell me how a particular exercise or routine he was writing would “get me feelin’ good.” So, that is my goal with these studies, to get you “feelin’ good”.<br> <br> Technique<br> There are many beliefs among players as to what makes a brass instrument “work”. Some believe it’s the lip, some believe it’s the tongue, some believe it’s the air, or some (like me) believe it’s a balance or coordination of all three. I don’t think that your chosen methodology will matter when practicing these exercises. If you practice them religiously and correctly, you’re playing will certainly improve.

Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #5889325. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.526186). Welcome to your new favorite chart to play for St. Patrick's Day gigs! This arrangement for violin and cello of the Irish traditional tune Whiskey In The Jar is anything but traditional. Unlike other versions that are entirely made up of the song's melody line repeated over a basic accompaniment, this chart features a new form, fun dynamic and octave changes, and intertwines original solo and fiddle breakdown sections in between the verses (these aren't too difficult to play, but seem fast and impressive enough to make your audience's jaw drop!). This will be fun to play and exciting to listen to -- your audience is guaranteed to get up and dance! It's a must-have for St. Patrick's Day, of course, but also great for parties, events, solo & ensemble contests, or any other occasion that needs an upbeat Irish vibe. Rated advanced-intermediate for a handful of interesting syncopated rhythms and some fast finger work, this arrangement will be playable for students and sightreadable for professionals. Trumpet - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Eric Bolvin. Arranged by Eric Bolvin. Method, Etudes and Exercises, General Instructional, Technique Training. 73 pages. Published by Faded Duck Music
The Saint Jacome Manual is a 63 lesson course that takes you progressively through the entire Saint-Jacome Grand Method for Trumpet or Cornet. For those of you familiar with The Arban Manual, this will be a welcome addition to your library and practice.<br> <br> Saint-Jacome’s Grand Method for Trumpet or Cornet has, along with Arban’s Complete Conservatory Method, been a staple of trumpet practice and pedagogy since it’s inception in 1870. Most serious trumpet players are familiar with the duets of Saint-Jacome, which are considered to be some of the finest ever written and many have played the etudes. But when it comes to the remaining 300-plus pages of the Saint-Jacome, most trumpet players have not scratched the surface. While most trumpet players have spent a considerable amount of time working from the Arban, the Saint-Jacome collects dust sitting on the shelf.<br> <br> Why has the Saint-Jacome taken a back seat to the Arban for over a century? The reason is quite simple: organization. The Arban is fairly well organized by type of exercise and study, while the Saint-Jacome is seemingly put together randomly. The fact that the book has never been edited properly doesn’t help either.<br> <br> That brings us to the purpose of the Saint-Jacome Manual: To bring order to the chaos. To give the trumpet player a day-to-day plan for practicing from this great book. Each lesson is a balanced, complete practice routine that will take you progressively through the entire Saint-Jacome Grand Method. Good luck!

Zack Richards #5197213. Published by Zack Richards (A0.894386). During my undergraduate career at The University of Akron, like many college students, I went through a year of trying to discover what I really wanted to do. In my sophomore year, I dropped from Music Education, and picked up a double major in Trumpet Performance and Composition with a minor in Jazz Studies. After 2 semesters of taking nearly 30 credit hours and a need to change my embouchure, I decided to focus on trumpet and come back to composition later. After finishing my BM in Trumpet Performance, I decided to go for a MM in Composition. This piece was one that I wrote for entry into the graduate program. To this day, it is still one of my favorite compositions! It's a lot of fun, very difficult and taxing, but also very musically interesting. It melds together several interesting melodic lines and motifs, and each player gets a chance to shine. There are also a lot of great ensemble moments where lines get passed through the entire quintet and turn it into one instrument. It's a piece for advanced players for sure, but a great feature for any group willing to give it a go!Brass QuintetAdvancedApprox. 6:30Visit zackrichards.com for more from this composer!

Arranged for Solo Bb Brass & Piano "Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema") is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.<br> <br> The first commercial recording was in 1962, by Pery Ribeiro. The Stan Getz recording featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto became an international hit. This version had been shortened from the version on the album Getz/Gilberto (recorded in March 1963, released in March 1964) which had also included the Portuguese lyrics sung by Astrud's then husband João Gilberto. In the US, the single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and went to number one for two weeks on the Easy Listening chart. Overseas it peaked at number 29 in the United Kingdom, and charted highly throughout the world.<br> <br> Numerous recordings have been used in films, sometimes as an elevator music cliché. It is believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history, after "Yesterday" by The Beatles. The song was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2004, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. In 2009, the song was voted by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone as the 27th greatest Brazilian song.<br> <br> Ipanema is a fashionable seaside neighborhood located in the southern region of the city of Rio de Janeiro.<br> <br> <br> Helô Pinheiro, the woman who inspired the song, in 2006.<br> The song was composed for a musical comedy titled Dirigível (Blimp), then a work-in-progress of Vinicius de Moraes. The original title was "Menina que Passa" ("The Girl Who Passes By"); the first verse was different. Jobim composed the melody on his piano in his new house in Rua Barão da Torre, in Ipanema. In turn, Moraes had written the lyrics in Petrópolis, near Rio de Janeiro, as he had done with "Chega de Saudade" ("No More Blues") six years earlier.<br> <br> During a recording session in New York with João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz, the idea of cutting an English-language version came up. Norman Gimbel wrote the English lyrics. João's wife, Astrud Gilberto, was the only one of the Brazilians who could speak English well and was chosen to sing. Her voice, without trained singer mannerisms, proved a perfect fit for the song. Ethel Ennis and Nat King Cole have also both recorded the song.<br> <br> The song was inspired by Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto (now known as Helô Pinheiro), a seventeen-year-old girl living on Montenegro Street in Ipanema. Daily, she would stroll past the Veloso bar-café, not just to the beach ("each day when she walks to the sea"), but in the everyday course of her life. She would sometimes enter the bar to buy cigarettes for her mother and leave to the sound of wolf-whistles. In the winter of 1962, the composers saw the girl pass by the bar. Since the song became popular, she has become a celebrity.<br> <br> In Revelação: a verdadeira Garôta de Ipanema ("Revealed: The Real Girl from Ipanema") Moraes wrote that she was "the paradigm of the young Carioca: a golden teenage girl, a mixture of flower and mermaid, full of light and grace, the sight of whom is also sad, in that she carries with her, on her route to the sea, the feeling of youth that fades, of the beauty that is not ours alone—it is a gift of life in its beautiful and melancholic constant ebb and flow."<br> <br> Ella Fitzgerald recorded this song on her two-disc set of Brazilian music Ella Abraca Jobim, released on the label [[Pablo today}] in 1981.<br> <br> The legacy of "The Girl from Ipanema" was acknowledged by multiple aspects of the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro: the Olympic and Paralympic mascots were respectively named Vinicius and Tom after the song's co-writers by a public vote, while the Olympics' opening ceremony featured a segment themed around the song and the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer. Jobim's grandson Daniel performed the song during the segment, which also featured an appearance by Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen. Spotify reported that the song had been streamed on its service 40,000 times per-day in the days following the ceremony (a 1200% increase), while in the U.S., the song reached #5 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart the following week.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522194 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional,Standards. Score and part. 28 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3134129. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522194). My Saxophone and Me consists of fourteen short and delightful pieces written especially for absolute beginners up to students at elementary level. The book comes in two versions, one for B flat saxophones and the other for E flat instruments. However, for obvious reasons you cannot mix B flat and E flat instruments in the same group. The pieces are intended as supplementary material to your usual tutor books. The music can be used with any number of players and the pieces remain in the lower register. Several early pieces use only the notes B, A and G and the key of G major predominates. Six of the pieces use only half notes (minims) and quarter notes (crotchets). The low C, a tricky note for some beginners, has been avoided almost completely. On the one occasion it appears, the note C an octave above is given as optional. Although the pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty you can play them in any order you want, depending on the musical needs of the student. Your students are sure to enjoy these pieces, which are both easy on the fingers and easy on the ear! Several pieces have a few measures (bars) rest in the middle not only to give the player a break and add musical contrast but also to give the experience of counting empty bars during the music. When space allows, piano cues appear in the solo part. Some of the later pieces in the book have good performing potential and could be strung together in any order to create a small suite. Every piece has a short piano introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The keyboard accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible with the minimum number of notes. Dynamic markings (e.g. piano and mezzo-forte) are used from the start, but phrasing has been omitted from the solo part. This is because the teacher is usually in the best position to suggest phrasing within the physical capabilities of each student. Slurs have been employed sparingly and only when necessary. An MP3 file of all the piano accompaniments is also available as a separate item. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679821The book includes a well-known folk lullaby from Wales and a lively folk song from Thailand which is known by all Thai people because it’s taught in elementary schools throughout the country. The music has been converted into pdf files at 1,200 dpi which will produce professional looking printed copies of high quality. However, the output quality will also depend on your own printer settings and capabilities. The publication consists of a teacher's book (18 pages) and a student's book (8 pages) both contained in the same pdf file. The sample MP3 (click on the “Listen†button above) contains recordings of Nice ‘n Easy (No 2); Lazy Days (No 4); Waltzing Around (No 7); Just a Minuet (No 11) and Donkey Trot (No 12). Colin Kirkpatrick studied at London’s Royal College of Music. He followed a career in music education. He was a High School Music Director in London for about fifteen years and later became a Music Education Adviser for local government, with responsibility for training teachers and directing the instrumental teaching service. The work in education gave him many opportunities for composing. He has published a great deal of music and his publishers include Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Paxton, Schott, Oxford University Press, Chester, Belwin Mills and Intrada (Netherlands). Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027336 Composed by Jeremy Goh, Daniel Cheng. Contemporary. Score and parts. 78 pages. Jeremy Goh #12125. Published by Jeremy Goh (A0.1027336).
