Instrumentation: SATB a cappella choir (with divisi)Duration: 6'Completed: January 2017I wrote the poem The Landowner a few years ago in a poetry class at my undergraduate alma mater, Bucknell University. When I heard that there was an opportunity to write for a student formed choir at Peabody, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to set one of my previously written poems to music. I looked back at poems which I had written, and came across The Landowner. It continues to intrigue me to this day since I am still uncertain as to what it is about. This enigmatic, earthy, and hauntingly repetitive poem poses more questions than it does provide answers. This is something which fascinates me, and which I sought to depict in the music.The Landowner:The landowner sends out his three servants.Each go to work in separate fields;To rake the leaves,to harvest the crops,to pluck the fruits from the tree.Working endlessly,They turn their heads from each other.They refuse to help,they refuse to talk.Good work is done,but for what purpose?The landowner plucks fresh leavesfrom a papaya tree.Although he is blind,he still sees the sun.The mooing of cows andcrowing of roosters ceases.He stands in the shade,waiting for his servants.They offer him papaya,He shakes his head

Considered a major contribution to the develop of Czech music, The Bartered Bride by BedÅ™ich Smetana is a comic opera in three acts that premiered, in its final version, in 1870; having not been a great success when the original two-act version premiered at the Provisional Theatre, Prague on 30 May 1866. The opera was part of Smetana’s aim to create a native Czech music after the conductor Johann von Herbeck commented that Czechs were incapable of making music of their own. Whilst he avoided the direct use of folksongs, Smetana did use numerous traditional Bohemian dance forms, such as the furiant and the polka, leading to music that was Czech in spirit.“Sold Brideâ€, a more accurate translation of the original Czech title (Prodaná nevÄ›sta), tells the story of two lovers (MaÅ™enka and Jenik) who want to marry despite MaÅ™enka’s father’s obligations for his daughter to marry the son of a wealthy landowner, Micha. Scheming, condition proposals and secret identities leads to a happy ending.The polka was not in the original 1866 version. A revision in October 1866 saw the addition of a gypsy dance near the start of act 2. But by the next performance in January 1869, this had been replaced by a polka. In June 1869, a new polka replaced the January version’s (as well as being moved to the end of act 1) and this is the one that we know and love today.This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. LORD INCHIQUIN was composed by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), a blind Irish harpist often considered to be Ireland's national composer. He was an itinerant musician who traveled throughout Ireland composing and performing his tunes and often staying with lords and landowner's whose names he gave to many of his tunes. McIntire's arrangement is for a STRING ENSEMBLE for players at the INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL in which all the players participate in a lively exchange of the melody and its variations. This package includes a score and separate sheet music for each instrument. Other string ensembles of Irish melodies by McIntire Carolan's Concerto and Sailor's Hornpipe available at this web site.

(A0.1072403). Unknown info about song Ochi chornye (Dark Eyes). Poem Ochi chornye (Dark Eyes) was published in Literaturnaya Gazeta on 17 January 1843. Author of the text Eugene Grebinka (1812-1848) - Ukrainian writer, born in Poltava province, a gentleman, an educated man. Verse was dedicated to beloved Maria, daughter of a retired staff captain, landowner Rastenberg. Often say music by unknown author which is incorrect. Romance was performed on the music of waltz Florian Hermann (German by birth). A popular version of melody was written by Adalgiso Ferraris and published around 1910, with German editor Otto Kul. Later Fedor Shalyapin took the Romance Ochi chornye (Dark Eyes) to his repertoire and introduced him to the world during his tour. Shalyapin added to the text a few verses apparently written by him, which dedicated to his future wife - Italian Jola tornagi.
