Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1167528 Composed by Larry Williams. Contemporary,Folk,Jazz. Individual part. 80 pages. Larry Andrew Williams #767908. Published by Larry Andrew Williams (A0.1167528). A WORD FROM THE COMPOSER Is anyone interested in new reading material anymore? I know that when I was a kid in nineteen hundred and something, the quest for new musical pieces was always one of the funnest aspects of the whole musical journey. Of course I did learn that it would take a long time to  nd those few that would resonate with me for a lifetime, but it was always fun trying them all out. It still is, in fact. Well, times change and people change, but I’d still like to believe that same factor carries on. You know, the one about trying out all that music to get to the few you keep. And what about the few we do keep? For guitar players, was it always a classic from the usual suspects, like Albeniz, Sor, Tarrega,, Granados, Rodrigo, Brouwer, Barrios, Villa-Lobos, or anything by Bach? Was it something our band director or private instructor, one of our friends, or our parents wrote? Or – Heaven forbid- something that maybe we ourselves wrote? Or some “unknown guy.â€Â Consider this.Just how often did some unknown composer's piece greatly affect us as we waded through a daunting pile of the familiar from the known masters? And since some, if not most of these classics are required reading, how often did we even get around to giving this unknown guy's piece a try?And furthermore, was this unknown guy - shudder...alive? Let’s face it. In the composer arena, we the living, stand no chance against the deceased (God rest their souls) But by saying “they don’t write ‘em like that anymore,†are we denying ourselves new ground to be broken, doors to be opened, frontiers to be discovered? And isn’t that pioneering spirit just plain ol’ curiosity when it comes right down to it? Well I believe the key lies within the carrying out of these notions that curiosity places in us. It’s climbing the mountain simply because it is there. So, for right now, I’m that unknown guy and I would only urge you to break new ground every day. Lots of trends, ideas, and interests will come and go in your life, but always hang on to that curiosity. It’s what makes the world a smaller neighborhood. Larry Williams.

Six Songs of the Holocaust, - string quartet

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773330 Composed …

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773330 Composed by Various. Arranged by Yoel Epstein. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 37 pages. Yoel Epstein #4285845. Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773330). These six songs have become icons of remembrance of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. They are traditionally played on Holocaust Day, which is on the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Nissan in Israel, or January 27th in the rest of the world. Unter Dyne Vyse Shteren (Under the Starry Sky) was written by Avraham Sutskover, a leading Yiddish poet, while trapped in the ghetto of Vilna, in July 1943. Days before the ghetto was destroyed and all the Jews murdered, Sutskover escaped to the forest with his wife. He reached Russia, and in 1947 moved to Palestine. He died in Israel in 2010 at the age of 96. The poem was set to music by Avraham Brodna, a simple laborer in the Vilna ghetto who died in a concentration camp. Ani Maamin (I Believe): The words to this simple song are of the Jewish prayer I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah. The tune is attributed to Azriel David Festig, a leading Warsaw hazzan (cantor) who died in the Holocaust. The song was performed after the war by Rabbi Shaul Yedidia Eliezer Taub, the Admor (Rabbinical leader) of the Modzitz Hassidic sect, and has become the iconic song of the remembrance in the Hassidic community. Shtiller Shtiller (Hush Hush) was written by Alexander Volkovitzky, then a 12-year-old boy, in the Vilna Ghetto in the spring of 1943. Volkovitzky, who wrote the melody for a song contest organized to encourage the cultural life of the ghetto, eventually came to Israel where he (under the name Alexander Tamir) became a leading pianist and music educator. The words are by Shmerke Kacserginsky, a leading poet of Vilna, who later escaped the Holocaust and migrated to South America. Papirossen (Cigarettes) actually predates the Holocaust by 15 years. It was written by Yiddish actor and composer Herman Yablokoff in 1922 in Grodno, Poland. Yablokoff later immigrated to America, where he produced a musical Papirossen that incorporated the song. It was later made famous by the Barry Sisters, a Yiddish popular music group. Donna Donna was written by Shalom Secunda, with words by Aaron Zeitlin for the Yiddish musical Esterke in 1940. Though the song originally related to the 600-year-old legend of a Polish king who married a Jewess, it quickly became associated with the Holocaust because of its haunting message. The song has entered the popular folk repertoire, with canonical renditions by Joan Baez, Theodore Bikel, and many others. Hatikva (the Hope) is Israel's national anthem. The words are by Naftali Zvi Imber, and the tune is a traditional eastern European tune. You are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. In addition to the songs offered on this site (you can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=Yoel+Epstein ), I have arranged three songs from the Holocaust, which I arranged and distribute for free on IMSLP. You can find them at http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Ravpapa. If you need arrangements of any of these songs for special combinations of instruments, feel free to contact me, and I will try to accommodate. Write me at yoelepst@gmail.com. Hope you enjoy.

The Unquiet Grave from American Death Ballads (Downloadable)

High voice and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8454-2E Composed by David Conte. Secular, 21st century. Instrument part. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8454-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8454-2E). English.American Death Ballads was composed especially for tenor Brian Thorsett. We have been frequent collaborators since 2011, when he premiered the complete set of my Three Settings of W. B. Yeats for string quartet and tenor. At his urging, I transcribed and published my Three Poems of Christina Rossetti (originally for medium voice) for high voice, which he premiered at the San Francisco Conservatory in 2014. American Death Ballads was premiered by him at the San Francisco Conservatory, November 1, 2015, with pianist John Churchwell, and at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference in Chicago, July 10, 2016, with pianist Warren Jones. The choice of texts for my American Death Ballads was inspired partly by Copland’s Old American Songs, which I deeply admire, but more by my dear friend and colleague the late Conrad Susa’s Two Murder Ballads. The ingenuity of Susa’s accompaniments for his ballads in imagining anew the original source material owes a great deal to Copland’s accompaniment for his songs. Though the content of my songs is completely original and not based on preexisting melodies, I have tried to expand on this further, as the texts are much longer, and go through many different moods and characters. The four texts I chose include stories about murder, death, and dying. Though two of the texts were written in England, they traveled to the colonies almost immediately. The subjects of the texts had spent time in America, and their stories were well known to Americans.Wicked Polly is a cautionary tale. Polly has lived a dissolute and immoral life, saying, 'I'll turn to God when I grow old.' Suddenly taken ill, she realizes that it is too late to repent. She dies in agony and is presumably sent to hell; young people are advised to heed. My musical setting is stately and preacherly in character for the narrator; for Polly it becomes pleading and remorseful. The Unquiet Grave was brought to the attention of Alan Lomax, the great American field collector of folk music, by English folk singer Shirley Collins. The text is taken from an English folk song dating from 1400. In The Unquiet Grave, a young man mourns his dead lover too fervently and prevents her from obtaining peace. The dead woman complains that his weeping is keeping her from peaceful rest. He begs a kiss; she tells him it would kill him. When he persists, wanting to join her in death, she explains that once they were both dead their hearts would simply decay, and that he should enjoy life while he has it. My setting is in a flowing Andante with a rocking accompaniment. Three voices are delineated here: the narrator, the mournful lover, and the dead lover speaking from the grave. The Dying Californian first appeared in the New England Diadem in 1854. Its lyrics are based on a letter from a New Englander’s sailor to his brother who is dying at sea while on the way to California to seek his fortune in the California gold fields. He implores his brother to impart his message to his father, mother, wife, and children. My setting opens with the singer alone in a moderate dirge tempo, then, joined by the piano, moves through many tonalities and moods before ending with supreme confidence as the speaker 'gained a port called Heaven/Where the gold will never rust.'Captain Kidd was a Scottish sailor who was tried and executed for piracy and murder in 1701. The American connection to this ballad is that Kidd escaped to America and for a time lived in New York and Boston, though he was a wanted criminal by the British authorities and was extradited to Britain, where he was hung at 'Executioner’s Dock.' The lyric was printed in Britain in 1701, traveling to the colonies almost immediately. Though the didactic tone of the text is similar to Wicked Polly, it expresses no regret until the final lines: 'Take warning now by me, and shun bad company, / Lest you come to hell with me, for I must die.' My setting is fast and spirited, expressing the confidence of a man who lived life as he wanted. -David Conte.

Published by johnson lee (A0.912623). There are many moments in our lives but none more significant than birth and death.Whilst birth is openly celebrated in our society, death however is treated as dark and sombre.I was moved to compose this piece Laid to Rest as I saw death as a final resting place and the funeral, a celebration of that person’s life as he is sent off on a journey of peace. Hence, this piece takes on a lighter, hopeful yet reflective feel compared to other pieces of heavier, melancholic notes.I was deeply honoured when it was first played / performed at Singapore’s late founding father Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s funeral. I had to control my tears as I was conducting the band and was so grateful for being able to honour him with my composition.During this pandemic, there are many healthcare heroes on the frontline working tirelessly to protect all of us. Some have even sacrificed their lives. I would like to dedicate this to these heroes. May they and their loved ones find comfort in this piece.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220892 Composed by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Michel Legrand. Arranged by Jenny Mills. 20th Century,A Cappella,Barbershop,Jazz,Standards. Octavo. 4 pages. LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers #817229. Published by LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (A0.1220892). This arrangement of this beautiful jazz ballad was commissioned from the late Jenny Mills by a LABBS barbershop chorus, inspired specifically by the recording by Clare Teal.Previously licensed for that chorus only, Jen's partner has now donated this arrangement to LABBS for publication on SMP, so that more SSAA a cappella groups can experience singing this beautiful ballad arranged in super-close harmony, with a beautiful romantic message suitable for shows, weddings, engagements and any time. This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contests, due to many of the chords used having gorgeously evocative semitone intervals within them, which is considered too dissonant for the style. They are nevertheless extremely appropriate and laden with emotion for a show performance, by a group who can handle the tuning of these unusual (to barbershop) chords. To hear the version by Clare Teal that inspired this arrangement, search on YouTube for her recording from her album Don't Talk. A sample recording of the arrangement being sung by the commissioning chorus will follow soon.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1495488 By Damien Gauci. By Damien Gauci. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Damien Gauci #1072005. Published by Damien Gauci (A0.1495488). Whiskers and Pippin had left the abandoned house behind, but they carried with them something far more valuable than anything they could have found within its dusty walls—a new friendship. As they journeyed through the woods, they discovered that they had more in common than just their fur colour. Their shared curiosity led them to explore new paths, while their cautious natures kept them safe from danger. Every rustle of the leaves, every flicker of movement in the underbrush, became an adventure when they were together.Day after day, Whiskers and Pippin would meet at the edge of the forest, eager to explore each other’s favourite spots. Whether it was a hidden grove full of the sweetest acorns or a quiet stream perfect for reflection, they found joy in sharing these special places with each other. The once lonely woods now felt alive with the warmth of their companionship. They would chase each other up trees, playfully darting between branches, and when the day grew late, they would sit side by side, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The fear and hesitation that once filled their first encounter was now just a distant memory. In its place was a deep bond, forged through shared experiences and a mutual understanding. Whiskers and Pippin might have been cautious, but together, they found the courage to explore a world that felt much less daunting with a friend by their side. And so, from that day on, they were inseparable—two squirrels who had found in each other a lifelong companion, proving that sometimes, the best adventures begin when you least expect them.

CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976734 Composed by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 99 pages. WheatMyer Music #6496769. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976734). CONJUNCTION interprets the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn near the end of the year 2020 as a celestial metaphor for the good news of Christ's birth in a replay of the Star of Bethlehem. Hence, its subtitle of The Christmas Star of 2020. The music, along with narration from selected Old and New Testament scriptures, delivers a message of hope amid the turmoil and chaos of current times. It's written for smaller concert bands hungry for challenging music. Ample cues and doubling allow for flexible instrumentation while mixed meters, varying tempos and textures, and interesting solo lines provide opportunities for strong players to shine. CONJUNCTION is also available with strings for orchestra.PROGRAM NOTES:2020 is widely characterized for its maladies: murders, burning cities, riots, a pandemic, economic shocks, and political turmoil. For some of us, it also held personal tragedy such as my brother’s passing from COVID. But, 2020 also brought a sign of hope, namely the celestial phenomenon known as the Great Conjunction of 2020. For earth-bound observers, this was the closest approach of Jupiter and Saturn in almost 400 years as they appeared to almost touch in the early evening sky to produce the most brilliant evening star of our lifetimes. The occurrence of the event in November-December neatly coincided with the Advent season, peaking just before Christmas Day. One could hardly fail to note the parallels with the Christmas star of Matthew’s gospel which gave the conjunction its alternate name, the Christmas Star of 2020. Thus, this star spoke, to those with ears to hear, the same message the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming Messiah, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. This star thus served to remind us that the LORD has not rejected us; He will show His favor again; His love has not vanished; His promises have not failed; He has not forgotten to be merciful or compassionate; and we are called to remember His mighty deeds (Psalm 77). CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020 is inspired by these particulars. For the music, I looked to Gustav Holst’s The Planets for themes that would portray Jupiter and Saturn’s pas de deux. I selected several motives from the corresponding movements mixed and matched in sometimes easily recognized quotations and other times in heavily camouflaged derivations. An exuberant polyphonic passage recaps themes from both Jupiter and Saturn when the music resolves from uncertainty into hopefulness. While Holst’s motives provide CONJUNCTION’s foundation I also used Handel’s Messiah for transitory and climactic material. You will hear his The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light in transitions and a short trombone solo. And a re-harmonization of the opening line from For unto us a child is born brings the music to a joyous climax.Although the music stands firmly on its own, I elected to incorporate some narrative to make the musical sentiment explicit. In a commentary on 2020’s grim events, I took adaptations of Habakkuk 1:2-4 and 2 Tim 3:1-4 and set them over Saturn’s plodding and ominous harmonies. Contrasting replies shimmer with hope as the narration melds Isaiah 9:2 and Luke 1:78-79 over another Saturn motive set against pitch sets from Jupiter’s main hymn theme. Still, it’s the music that tells the story of the Christmas Star of 2020.Please visit my website for a complete score preview: https://wheatmyermusic.com/conjunction-the-christmas-star-of-2020I feel somewhat guilty making claim to this music as almost all the building blocks are taken from other composers. But the end result is neither a medley, nor an arrangement, rather it is something clearly new, so I call it my own with deep respect to those giants on whose shoulders I stand.Robert MyersS.D.G.

The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice. This version is for the older Carl Fischer Arban Method.<br> <br> Description<br> The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice.<br> Why<br> Arban’s Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet andArban’s Famous Method for Trombone have been two of the most widely used brass books for over 100 years. The Arban Manual is simply a guide in how to practice Arban. The Arban Manual will take you step by step through the entire Arban method. The Arban Manual is not a technique book and the practice advice should work well with most brass methodology.<br> <br> How<br> A minimum of one week should be spent on each lesson, although many choose to spend longer. If you are having trouble with one part of a lesson, you may wish to spend more time on that part. Most lessons are divided into six parts that should be practiced in the prescribed order. It is recommended that you rest between each part and try to spread your practicing throughout the day as best you can.<br> <br> Range Considerations<br> Students who are ready to play from Arban should have a “usable range” up to A (concert G). Many of the easy studies do go this high. Although there are not many really high notes in Arbanby today’s standards, some of the studies can be quite taxing. An example of this is the interval studies on p. 126-129.<br> If you are not able to reach the highest keys at first, go as far you can comfortably, be sure to rest properly, and try to go further the next day. Remember, you will likely play from Arban in one way or another for most of your life, so don’t rush your progress.<br> <br> Warming Up<br> One of the shortcomings of Arban is the lack of solid warm up material. Part I of each lesson is designed to be a warm up. Some teachers and students may find this inadequate for a warm up. Therefore, feel free to supplement the lesson plan with a warm up of your choosing. After your warm up, continue with Part I of the lesson.<br> <br> Performance Etudes<br> I’ve designated some of the more melodic and well balanced etudes as “performance etudes”. These can be used for auditions or recitals and should be prepared for that purpose. Some teachers or students may have other favorite etudes that they may choose to use for the purpose of performance.<br> <br> All of the characteristic studies and celebrated fantaisies are considered performance pieces.<br> <br> Models<br> Models are different ways of playing an exercise. Many modelsinvolve using different articulations on a given exercise. Arban’suse of models is not extensive so I have chosen to expand on it, giving the student even more practice material. All models must be practiced thoroughly as prescribed in the lessons.<br> <br> The Hard Stuff<br> At some point in your study of Arban you may come across something that you just can’t play, or play at tempo. This often involves triple or double tonguing. Don’t let this discourage you. Practice it diligently and slowly. You may want to stay with it for more than one lesson. After practicing the difficult etude for at least a month, make a note of it and return to it later. Brass playing is a lifetime commitment and you should continue to grow throughout your playing career. Many of the world’s top players can’t play everything in the Arban book.<br> <br> Multiple Tonguing<br> Selecting the best syllables for multiple tonguing is often a problem for brass players and teachers. Although Arbanrecommends “tu ku”, many have had success using “tuh kuh”, “duh guh”, “tee kee” and many others. Finding your best syllables may take some experimentation.<br> <br> Extending Exercises<br> Beginning with Lesson 44, some of the exercises are reviewed and extended. This is to provide more upper range work, more key work and different models.<br> <br> Transposition<br> Beginning with Lesson 47, exercises are suggested to be transposed for trumpets in different keys. These are the most common transpositions and are only to provide the trumpet player with some basic transposition skills. Bass clef instruments need to substitute other material here such as clef practice.<br> The first transposition is for C trumpet which is useful for reading music in concert pitch. The second transposition is for Ab trumpet which is useful if you play a C trumpet and want to read a Bb part.<br> <br> Songs and duets<br> Some teachers love these and others don’t. I suggest you try them and if you’d like to supplement other pieces that you need to work on, please feel free to do so.<br> <br> For bass clef instruments<br> Although the page numbering is different, the exercises in the bass clef edition are numbered the same as the trumpet edition, therefore making The Arban Manual viable for bass clef instruments.<br> <br> The songs and duets have been left out of the early bass clef version of Arban, although there is now a new version that does include them. Feel free to supplement music of your choice. Some of the articulations and models may not be practical for slide trombone.

The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Composed by Traditional Scottish. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Christian, Repertoire, Technique Training, Easter, Lent. Score, Set of Parts. 17 pages. Published by jmsgu3
The Water Is Wide (O Waly Waly)<br> Duration: 5:24<br> Score: 10 pg. 121 ms., MM quarter = 94, final verse MM quarter = 80, common time<br> Solo part: 3 pg.<br> Piano part: 4 pg.<br> <br> A thought-provoking arrangement of a Traditional Scottish Folksong. Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament – "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912906 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. 93 pages. Brandon Nelson #1954835. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912906). Imagine the terrifying prospect of having your fate-indeed, the fate of the entire universe-decided by the fickle whims of seven gods! This was life for all those who dwelled in the ancient society of Sumeria! They Who Decide Fate paints the picture of what living with these gods might have been like for those pitiable mortals. The introduction builds to the dreadful fate theme, which is woven within the rest of the piece. In the first episode, the Eb clarinet is highlighted depicting Enki, the magical, clever Lord of the Earth. Crafty and mischievous, one would not cross this god, so mighty he was said to have created the Tigris and Euphrates rivers between which the entire Sumerian world existed! The full orchestra comes roaring back to represent Shamash, the Lion of Justice. Bringing wrongdoers their just due, he could also be merciful, curing the faithful sick who plead for his mercy. The second episode is gently ushered in by the Basset horn. Featured here is Ninhursag, the mild, nurturing Mother Goddess. It was said that any couple who desired to be fertile would do well to propitiate themselves to herâ?¦ An explosive, percussive jolt fanfares in Inanna, wild, untamed Goddess of Primal Passions! Whether in war or in lust, Inanna stood for all things raw-and ultimately destructive! The low, rumbling voice of the contralto clarinet brings us Anu, Father of the Gods. Ancient and wise, Anu is the manifestation of the heavenly vault. Nanna, the moon god riding on the back of a bull, illuminated the night sky. Sparkling and light colors of the orchestra depict his deft, spry nocturnal motions. The sinuous lines of the Bb clarinet illustrate Enlil, fickle God of Wind and Weather. It is said that it was he who created humans, but lost interest in them and flooded the whole earth. The whole clarinet quartet reprises the fate theme one last time, ending in an exultant flurry, reflecting both the fear and ecstasy that these seven gods inspired in their mortal charges. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818222 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Martin Luther. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Sacred. Score. 15 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3070993. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818222). A Mighty Fortress is Our God ♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Martin Luther wrote Ein Feste Burg sometime between 1527 and 1529. (Luther published the Ninety-five Theses in 1517 and was excommunicated in 1521.) Ein Feste Burg was translated into English by Miles Coverdale in 1539 with the title, Oure God is a defence and towre. The English text most familiar to me was translated by Francis Hedge in 1853. ♫ Luther believed in the power of music. In 1558 in the Forward to Georg Rhau's Symphoniae he wrote “I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God. … next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits.... Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms. This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God.†♫ In his lifetime, Luther made 3 major contributions to the Church: the doctrine of salvation by faith alone, the belief that Scripture should be translated into the people's language (producing a translation of the Bible into German), and the birth of congregational singing. In Roman Catholic churches of his day, only the cantor and a chorus sang the mass in Latin. He was determined to restore congregational singing in German to the church. ♫ In the slides, I have featured the Citadelle Laferrière, a fortress in Northern Haiti, commissioned in 1805 by Henri Christophe and completed in 1820, following Haiti’s independence from France in 1804. ♫ music © 2010 (copyright registered in 'Rejoice Ye Pure In Heart’ collection) ♫ recording ℗ 2020 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2022 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ performed by the arranger ♫ This .pdf file includes 2 files: 1) Letter size piano score 2) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet ♫ (Tell your computer which pages you want to print. Brass Ensemble Euphonium - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813708 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6474537. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813708). Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets) (Euphonium Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals but if you are considering using this selection for church services in which a congregation may sing along, I would suggest that you look for the arrangements of either I Vow to Thee, My Country, O God, Beyond All Praising, O Spirit All Embracing or Thaxted, also by Regis Bookshar. They are all based on the same excerpt from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked Andante Maestoso, perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named Thaxted, named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn I Vow to Thee, My Country, other settings of this hymn tune also include O God, Beyond All Praising, by Michael Perry in 1982, O Spirit All Embracing by Delores Dufner in 1995 and We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God, a paraphrase of the Te Deum Laudemus by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Euphonium Quintet, written in Bass Clef, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There is also a version for a Euphonium Quintet written in Treble Clef, if you would prefer. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautif.
