Choral Choir,Choral (SAT) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1279444 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Historic,Irish,Multicultural,Patriotic,World. 10 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #870926. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1279444). This is one of the most well-known of all British folksongs and refers to real historical events. It has been used in film and television programs and known to almost everyone in Britain. Skye (also known as “The Isle of Skyeâ€) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. With an area of about 640 square miles, the island is about sixty miles long and lies close to the Scottish mainland.  The boat in the song (“Speed bonny boatâ€) refers to a small sailing ship that in 1746 “carried the lad who was born to be king†to the Isle of Skye. The lad in question was Prince Charles Edward Stuart known affectionately as “Bonnie Prince Charlie.†The song also refers to the Battle of Culloden of April 1746, the last ever battle on British soil, fought between the British Army and the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie.  In June 1746 and disguised as a maid-servant, Charles was secretly transported from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to the more southerly Isle of Skye. This is the event to which the song refers. The Skye Boat Song has its roots in a traditional Gaelic melody. The lyrics in this arrangement are the familiar ones written in the 1870s by Sir Harold Edwin Boulton. This is an easy arrangement, with all vocal parts well within range and difficult leaps avoided. There are no divisi sections. The keyboard part also avoids technical hurdles. Your singers will surely enjoy this joyful melody, with its contrasting verse and attractive counter-melodies. Vocal ranges are Soprano: D4 – D5; Alto: A3 (only once) – B4; Tenor: C3 (only once) – D4.

This is the event to which the song refers. The Skye Boat Song has its roots in a traditional Gaelic melody. In this lovely arrangement for B flat clarinet and piano, the piece begins in B flat concert, entirely in the clarinet's low register. The second section modulates to concert F mostly in the high register with the highest note being the C just above the treble staff. Movement around the break has been avoided. The arrangement is about UK ABRSM Grade 3 standard and it would make a splendid and rewarding addition to the repertoire of the young clarinet player.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792108 Composed by Nicholas Francis. Contemporary. Score and part. 22 pages. Gordon Cherry #3451987. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792108). The Skye Boat Song, among the most popular of all Scottish folk tunes, deals with the flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie (Charles Edward Stewart) from Scotland to the Isle of Skye in 1746, after having been defeated on Culloden Moor by the English Army of King George II. The present setting, for either Tenor or Bass Trombone and Piano, is mostly lyrical and passes through a series of episodes that evoke watery images in various ways. A stormy episode which superimposes a more martial tune (relying heavily on the familiar scotch snappy rhythm) against a variation of the original folk tune leads to brief quotations from Mendelssohn’s Hebrides overture (the Isle of Skye is part of the group of islands known as the Hebrides) before a short recapitulation of the theme.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.902283 Arranged by Elizabeth Sutherland. Celtic,Folk,World. Score. 8 pages. Elizabeth Sutherland #6239729. Published by Elizabeth Sutherland (A0.902283). The Skye Boat Song is a late 19th-century Scottish song recalling the journey of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) from Benbecula to the Isle of Skye as he evaded capture by government troops after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.Sir Harold Boulton, 2nd Baronet composed the lyrics to an air collected by Anne Campbelle MacLeod in the 1870s, and the line Over the Sea to Skye is now a cornerstone of the tourism industry on the Isle of Skye. This arrangement uses the original lyrics, rather than the second version written later by Robert Louis Stevenson. Written for Celtic Harp and Voice, but also suitable for Piano and Voice.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Clarinet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575911 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Children,Folk,Standards,World. 2 pages. David Warin Solomons #2029093. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575911). This is part of a series of fifteen easy clarinet trios (for 1st or 2nd year students) based on traditional English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk songs. I was specially requested to write these arrangements by a clarinet teacher in Italy. The range does not go above the soprano top C (2 ledger lines above the treble clef) and the settings avoid the difficult transition a to b between the chalumeau and clarino ranges. The key signatures (as written) range from two flats to three sharps. The entire collection is available here as a set for $22.00 (15 easy clarinet trios) or, if preferred, the individual pieces are also available separately (at $2.50 each). As each piece comprises only one or two pages the players will be able to read directly from the scores, without the need for separate parts (which also gives the advantage of being able to see what the others are playing. The pieces are as follows: 1. The Waxie's Dargle (also known as The girl I left behind me) 2. Scotland the brave 3. The Ash Grove 4. Men of Harlech 5. The Belle of Belfast city (I'll tell my ma when I get home) 6. Donkey Riding (Were you ever in Quebec) 7. Blow away the morning dew 8. Come live with me 9. The king's joy (When the King comes home again) 10. Drunken Sailor 11. The Oak and the ash (A North country Maid) 12. Spanish Ladies 13. The Mermaid 14. And she shall walk in Silk Attire 15. The Skye boat Song (Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing) The sound sample is an electronic preview.
