Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1488102 Composed by Gail M. Luley. A Cappella,Advent,Christian,Classical,Traditional. 8 pages. Gail M Luley #1064981. Published by Gail M Luley (A0.1488102). Music and Performance NotesThe Advent sets a poem by Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) to music. The poet asks us to recognize that God comes to us and is present in everything around us, in the things we see, experience and feel. God ever comes and touches us with joy. We recognize God in our songs, in our moods, in sorrow, in joy, in our daily lives. This music is scored for SATB choir and viola. If a violist is not available, a violin can substitute. A piano reduction of the choral parts can be used just for rehearsal, or also in the performance if necessary. If no string player is available, the pipe organ can be used for the string part.Note on the textRabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter during the age of Bengal Renaissance. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author of the profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful poetry of Gitanjali, he became in 1913 the first non-European and the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.Song Offering/Gitanjali 45Have you not heard his silent steps? He comes, comes, ever comes.Every moment and every age, every day and everynight he comes, comes, ever comes. Many a song have I sung in many a mood of mind, but all their notes have always proclaimed,He comes, comes, ever comes. In the fragrant days of sunny April through the forestpath he comes, comes, ever comes. In the rainy gloom of July nights on the thunderingchariot of clouds he comes, comes, ever comes. In sorrow after sorrow, it is his steps that press upon my heart, and it is the golden touch of his feet that makes my joy to shine.Rabindranath Tagore.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.802616 By Johnny Cash. By Stan Jones. Arranged by Arthur Jesse & Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Peet du Toit #6023995. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802616). The song tells a folk tale of a cowboy who has a vision of red-eyed, steel-hooved cattle thundering across the sky, being chased by the spirits of damned cowboys. One warns him that if he does not change his ways, he will be doomed to join them, forever trying to catch the Devil's herd across these endless skies. The story has been linked with old European myths of the Wild Hunt, in which a supernatural group of hunters passes the narrator in wild pursuit.Stan Jones stated that he had been told the story when he was 12 years old by an old Native American who resided north-east of the Douglas, Arizona border town, a few miles behind D Hill, north of Agua Prieta, Sonora. The Native Americans, possibly Apache, who lived within Cochise County, believed that when souls vacate their physical bodies, they reside as spirits in the sky, resembling ghost riders. He related this story to Wayne Hester, a boyhood friend (later owner of the Douglas Cable Company). As both boys were looking at the clouds, Stan shared what the old Native American had told him, looking in amazement as the cloudy shapes were identified as the ghost riders that years later, would be transposed into lyrics. The melody is based on the song When Johnny Comes Marching Home.

Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite.

Small Ensemble High Voice,Oboe,Piano Accompaniment - Level 5 - SKU: A0.981218 Composed by Judith Cloud. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 17 pages. Judith Cloud #6689693. Published by Judith Cloud (A0.981218). Composer’s Notes In my parents' library there was an assortment of very old books that I used to leaf through while home for holidays. One of these, The Ladies' Wreath, was of special interest. The inscription inside the front cover read To Miss Sophia Venable by her friend William M. Duphuy, April 25, 1850. Within the collection of romantic short stories and poems was The Poet's Pen from the Greek didactic poet Menecrates. Here was something very different from the overly sentimental offerings in most of the volume. I imagined the solitary lady reading this would feel most exhilarated and even empowered. Ideas for setting the poem came almost immediately, with the oboe as a key figure. Having experimented with a choral setting, I settled on tenor, oboe and piano and in 1989 the piece was completed. I revised The Poet’s Pen in 2016. The Poet's Pen I was a useless reed; no cluster hungMy brow with purple grapes; no blossom flungThe coronet of crimson on my stem;No apple blushed upon me, nor (the gemof flowers) the violet strewed the yellow heathAround my feet; nor jessamine's sweet wreathRobed me in silver: day and night I pinedOn the lone moor, and shivered in the wind.At length a poet found me. From my sideHe smoothed the pale and withered leaves, and dyedMy lips in Helicon. From that high hour,I spoke! my words were flame and living power! All the wide wonders of the earth were mine;Far as the surges roll, or sunbeams's shine;Deep as earth's bosom hides the emerald;High as the hills with thunder-clouds are palled; And there was sweetness round me, that the dewHad never wet so sweet on violets blue.To me the mighty scepter was a wand; The roar of nations pealed at my command. To me the dungeon, sword, and scourge were vain,I smote the smiter, and I broke the chain;Or, towering o'er them all, without a plumeI pierced the purple air, the tempest's gloom,Till blazed th'Olympian glories on my eye,Stars, temples, thrones and gods--infinity. Menecrates of Ephesus (330-270 BC)

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.869207 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. With Summer: Cloudburst! Double rainbow … Trio 3). 48 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #3905. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869207). Program note: As indicated by the title, this is my twelfth string quartet. My very first work, Aperture (1974), was a string quartet. In between I wrote four (nos. 2 – 5) for the Kronos Quartet, one (no. 6) for the Manhattan String Quartet, one (no. 7) for the Lydian String Quartet, one (no. 8) for the Artaria String Quartet, two (nos. 9 - 10) for the Hawthorne String Quartet, and one (no. 11) for the Formosa Quartet. The number twelve immediately brought to mind the months of the year. But I thought a twelve-movement string quartet might be a bit excessive, and difficult to achieve in a coherent narrative arc. Most classical string quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are in four movements. So why not the seasons, a movement for each: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. I am a huge fan of The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn. Confession: I am a huge fan of anything by maestro Haydn. For inspiration and guidance, I went to Haydn’s other oratorio The Seasons. Armed with a Dover publication of the full score and a recording of the complete work by Sir Thomas Beecham on EMI Classics, I got down to work over the summer of 2010. String Quartet No. 12 … The Seasons, after Franz Joseph Haydn is in four movements, played without pause between movements. 1) Intro: Heavy snow … Spring: Crocuses blooming!!! 2) Summer: Cloudburst! Double rainbow … Trio 3) Autumn: La Caccia … Danza Rusticana … Trio 4) Intro: Heavy snow again … Winter: O Magnum Mysterium … Hail storm! The work begins with four descending chords, depicting the falling of snow. But it’s Spring and crocuses are seen peeping through the snow … Summer begins with cloudbursts, thunder, lightning and torrential rain. A double rainbow appears after the storm. The sun emerges from the clouds in the Trio section. It is a lovely day after all; but then the clouds return … La Caccia: men go hunting in the Autumn. Well, the men in Haydn’s days at least. Peasant ladies dance as they harvest in the fields. A hawk appears, soaring overhead in the Trio as the sun sets in an orange-red sky ... In Winter snow falls again; but it’s the season to celebrate the Nativity. Violin and viola chant O magnum mysterium … O Magnum Mysterium O great mystery Et admirabile sacramentum and wonderful sacrament Ut animalia viderent Dominum natum that animals should see the new-born Lord Jacentem in praesepio! lying in a manger! Beata Virgo, cujus viscera Blessed is the Virgin whose womb Meruerunt portare was worthy to bear Dominum Christum. Christ the Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia. A hailstorm wreaks havoc. Fine. Audio link. With its syncopated rhythms and jazz-inspired harmonies, this piece was written to represent the feeling in the air after a summer thunderstorm. Concert Band - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1028182 Composed by Rawn Boulden. 20th Century,Children,Contemporary. Score and parts. 69 pages. R. Boulden #3417495. Published by R. Boulden (A0.1028182). A programmatic piece depicting the tale of the Itsy Spider. The composition starts out very bright and joyful (the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout). Quickly, it becomes darker, as the clouds and thunder emerge (down came the rain and washed the spider out). After the period of darkness and melancholy, the song's key gets brighter and brighter, symbolizing the clouds slowly dissipating and sunlight emerging (out came the sun and dried up all the rain). The song ends joyously (and the itsy bitsy spider climbed out the spout again), celebrating the spider's survival of the perilous weather. Fantasy on Itsy Bitsy Spider has the following instrumentation: Flue/Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Cymbal. The song features an oboe solo, in the middle. I hope you enjoy this thrilling piece that is sure to be a pleasure to perform and hear!

Some of the pieces are solo piano and others feature duets with Mitch Iimori on English horn, oboe, and guitar (but not all at the same time!). The two musicians are obviously exceptionally comfortable and in tune with each other, and the results can be stunning. Very classical in scope and structure, the music is reflective of the natural surroundings of Ms Stevens’ home in the Colombia Gorge region of northern Oregon. The first eight of the fourteen tracks make up the Seasons Suite, a group of lyrical compositions inspired by the various times of year in a remote area of eastern Oregon. The other six pieces also have themes of nature and serenity. The Seasons Suite begins with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling in the ceaseless wind of that area. On Summit, Iimori trades his woodwinds for guitar in a gentle, sweeping duet with the piano. Waning Star is a gorgeous piano solo that has a peaceful grace and quiet serenity - a favorite. Reach For the Stars is a piano solo that has an uplifting sense of moving forward and reaching out. Dawn closes the CD with a warm and soothing confection. The piano is accompanied by light percussion, bass, and washes of synth strings. Full of hope and optimism without being sugarcoated, this piece is spellbinding in its gentle way.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1314982 Composed by William Kersten. Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. Score. 23 pages. William Kersten #903730. Published by William Kersten (A0.1314982). Inspired by the Victorian and Romantic poetry of Christina Rossetti, Anne Bronte, Thomas Hood and Thomas Beddoes, the Five songs form a cycle of joy, sadness, love, death and exultation.  The music is scored in two versions: Normal Vocal Range and Wide Vocal Range.1. A Birthday Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) My heart is like a singing bird Whose nest is in a watered shoot; My heart is like an apple-tree Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit; My heart is like a rainbow shell That paddles in a halcyon sea; My heart is gladder than all these Because my love is come to me. Raise me a dais of silk and down; Hang it with vair and purple dyes; Carve it in doves and pomegranates, And peacocks with a hundred eyes; Work it in gold and silver grapes, In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys; Because the birthday of my life Is come, my love is come to me. 2. Echo Christina RossettiCome to me in the silence of the night; Come in the speaking silence of a dream; Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright As sunlight on a stream; Come back in tears, Oh memory, hope, love of finished years. Oh dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet, Whose wakening should have been in Paradise, Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet; Where thirsting longing eyes Watch the slow door That opening, letting in, lets out no more. Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live My very life again though cold in death - Come back to me in dreams, that I may give Pulse for pulse, breath for breath: Speak low, lean low, As long ago, my love, how long ago. 3. There is dew...â€Thomas Hood (1799-1845)There is dew for the flowret And honey for the bee, And bowers for the wild bird, And love for you and me. There are tears for the many And pleasures for the few; But let the world pass on, dear, There's love for me and you. 4. We do lie beneath the grass...â€Thomas Beddoes (1803-1849) We do lie beneath the grass In the moonlight, in the shade Of the yew-tree. They that pass Hear us not. We are afraid They would envy our delight, in our graves by glow-worm night. Come follow us, and smile as we; We sail to the rock in the ancient waves, Where the snow falls by thousands into the sea, And the drowned and the shipwrecked have happy graves.  5. My soul is awakened...â€Â Anne Bronte (1820-1849)My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaring And carried aloft on the wings of the breeze, For above and around me the wild wind is roaring Arousing to rapture the earth and the seas. The long withered grass in the sunshine is glancing, The bare trees are tossing their branches on high, The dead leaves beneath them are merrily dancing The white clouds are scudding across the blue sky. I wish I could see how the ocean is lashing The foam of its billows to whirlwinds of spray, I wish I could see how its proud waves are dashing, And hear the wild roar of their thunder today.

SATB chorus and reciter - SKU: BJ.1427 Das verlorene Paradies. Composed by Kjell Perder. A paradise lost – A choral work in honour of Beethoven. Secular. Octavo. 24 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1427. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1427). 8.27 x 11.7 inches. In the symphony popularly known as the Pastoral, Beethoven delineates his deep love for nature, for the peace of the countryside along with the drama of a thunderstorm. Little could he know how industrialism, urbanisation, exploitation and a general lack of respect would come to be a threat to Mother Earth. When we hear the nightingale, the cuckoo, and the rumbling of thunder in Beethoven's sixth symphony, the aim of the composer is to express his emotions with regard to these sounds of nature rather than imitate them (Mehr Empfindung als Malerei!). Yet the Pastoral Symphony became a model for 19th century programme music composers who wished to renew the symphonic format with storytelling and a freer artistic idiom. The vocal work Det forlorade paradiset (The lost paradise) makes reference to Beethoven's ontologically anchored love for Creation, but also to the fundamental tension between the idyllic and encroaching threats, the very factors that give the Pastoral Symphony its richness and inevitability. The lyrics have nothing to do with John Milton's famous epos Paradise Lost, they foretell an approaching apocalypse created by mankind in this age of pollution and climate change. The choral text consists of fragments of Schiller's Ode an die Freude (used by LvB in his 9th Symphony). A few quotes by Beethoven will be recited as well. The basic principal of this composition is to present soothing parallel - tonally based - streams of nature sounds and idyllic surroundings with the gathering of ominous clouds of approaching disaster: ferocious fires, torrents of rain and stormy winds (where the singers make use of clusters, chanting, growl, stamping their feet, etc). Doch mehr Empfindung als Malerei! (emotion rather than mere imitation). A nod or two to Mr. Beethoven by way of droning and using chromatic runs. The performance can be choreographed for extra impact, but it is equally possible to perform the music as a concert piece. - Kjell Perder.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1383996 Composed by David Fraser. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 178 pages. David Fraser #968350. Published by David Fraser (A0.1383996). This volume contains five solo piano pieces expertly crafted and meticulously edited for accuracy. Advanced pianists will welcome the technical challenges and heights of musicality these works require. Music terminology for â??Le Cygne noirâ?? and â??L'océanâ?? are in French, with regard to the dedications of these pieces. All other works use conventional music terminology in Italian. 178 pages. ISMN 979-0-800277-00-9.David Fraser wrote the first 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 1997 and subsequently completed this piece and all other works in this volume over the course of six months in 2019. When playing the original 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 2019, Fraser noted that the music had some resemblance to works by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This encouraged Fraser to compose the remainder of this piece in a manner reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and, consequently, author a suite of solo piano pieces as homages to some of his favorite composers. In Rachmaninoffâ??s famous â??Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43â??, variation 18, the composer uses an upside-down inversion of a small melody by Paganini. Similarly, Fraser uses a backwards inversion of a small melody from Rachmaninoffâ??s variation for the Rhapsodyâ??s â??Adagioâ? section, which starts on Page 3.Le Cynge noir {The Black Swan} is the second piece Fraser authored, dedicated to his beloved piano composer, Maurice Ravel. In this piece, Fraser wrote in his own style while evoking images such as a swan gliding on a lake, peering at its reflection in the water, and taking flight into the clouds with its wings rustling in the wind. Fraser gleaned inspiration for this piece from Ravelâ??s song for voice and piano â??Histoires naturelles - Le cygneâ??, set to a poem by Jules Renard. In addition, Fraser alternates between the keys of C-sharp major and A major as a depiction of the magical swanâ??s internal conflict in choosing to exist as a black or white swan.Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. Specifically, Fraser uses a similar structure in Movement 1, starting at Measure 72 marked â??più mosso e con abbandonoâ?, to the notoriously difficult â??colossaleâ? section of Prokofievâ??s â??Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16â??, Movement 1. The sonataâ??s Movement 3 also follows a structure parallel to Movement 4 of Prokofievâ??s aforementioned piano concerto, employing fiendishly challenging syncopated jumps in both hands. Written in ternary form, Movements 1 and 3 of Fraserâ??s sonata are in C minor; Movement 2 is in E-flat minor, instead of the expected relative or dominant key. This work has explosive sentiments of rage that elicit a sense of immensity and darkness, touching on the macabre yet maintaining an alluring nature. The fourth piece of this suite, â??L'océan {The Ocean}â?? dedicated to Claude Debussy, uses whole-tone scales throughout as lyrical motifs. The composition unfolds with the allusion of the sun glimmering on ocean waves, followed by the playfulness of eddies and gusts of wind. These themes merge into one another as the wind increases in ferocity, culminating in the start of a storm with sudden strikes of lightning preceded by the reverberation of thunder. The pitter-patter of rain on the water steadily evolves into a full tempest that engulfs the middle section of the piece. As the storm subsides and the ocean calms, night has fallen and the twinkling of stars in the firmament are reflecting upon the water. The piece ends with the return of the opening theme as the sun swiftly rises above the ocean on the horizon.Prelude No. 1 L'adieu {The Farewell} offers rich and lush harmonies with an enticing melody. This piece was written in memoriam to Fraser's mother.
