SATB chorus divisi - Digital Download SKU: BJ.1370 Composed by Henrik Dahlgren. Secular. Octavo. 12 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1370. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1370). 8.27 x 11.7 inches. In 2017, I was commissioned by the male voice choir Svanholm Singers to write a work for inclusion in a concert marking 70 years since the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Choosing a text was difficult. I came across upon a poem by Maya Angelou, but it struck me as being too powerful and emotional for the music I was writing to carry it; everything I composed sounded banal next to Angelou's words. I soon realized that I could use silence to enhance the text, rather than heaping layers and layers of music upon it. Silence is both terrifying and serious - in a sense, it is the only adequate counterpoint to the poetry. So, I decided to build the piece on silence. Though the beginning of the piece is the opposite of silence - a scream of desperation -, I followed that outburst by cutting the poem's stanzas into single words, repeated in a different order each time, almost in the manner of a mantra. Finally, they end up in the right order and suddenly the words take on their rightful meaning. I hope, in this way, the music is equally powerful as the words. Son to Mother has been well-received and has gone on to become one of the most widely performed pieces I have written. It has been performed at various festivals and in various countries, including Taiwan, France and China - where it only just made it past the government censors. - Henrik DahlgrenThis version is an adaptation for mixed choir of the original male choir version. Henrik Dahlgren is a Swedish composer, born 1991. He has been studying at the Academy Of Music in Malmo with Prof. Rolf Martinsson and the Royal College Of Music in London with Dr. Haris Kittos. Henrik started his musical career as a drummer and has ever since worked in a very wide range of different genres and styles, both as a performer and as a composer.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522260 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Holiday,Patriotic. Octavo. 33 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6028587. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522260). This choral work is sure to add excitement to your concert and it was given splendid reviews when it was first performed at London’s Royal Albert Hall. It was later performed at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls just outside London where it received a rapturous reception from the large audience. The work is ideal for music festivals (for which it was originally written) or any important event which needs a celebratory piece for choir and orchestra. The piece celebrates the endless joy of life and light, as children play on the seashore. The choral parts are not difficult and parts of the soprano could also be sung by children’s chorus if necessary. The words of the soprano solo part have a reflective, maternal quality as she watches the children playing on the shore. Singers are sure to enjoy the catchy melodies, the expressive soprano solo and the dramatic middle section of this work. Parts of the piece use several irregular time signatures. Don’t let them put you off! They are good deal easier than they look and the score contains indicates how they break down into simple units of two and three beats. The choral score contains a piano reduction of the orchestral score. The full orchestral score and parts are available separately from SMP. The orchestration is standard and requires: 2 flutes and piccolo, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B flat, 2 bassoons; 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 tuba, timpani, percussion (4 players), violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass. A high-quality audio file containing the orchestral accompaniment is also available. The words are by the distinguished and much-loved Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). He made significant contributions to literature and wrote a prodigious number of works including essays, philosophical treatises, journals, memoirs, short stories and letters. The text of this work is taken from two poems in the book entitled Gitanjali. The title is translated as Song Offerings and was largely responsible for Tagore winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. The book contains over one hundred poems, translated freely by the author into English from the original Bengali, published in 1910. The English version appeared in 1912 published by the Indian Society of London. The text has been adapted slightly for this choral setting.Colin Kirkpatrick has published a great deal of music and his publishers include Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Paxton, Schott, Oxford University Press, Chester and Belwin Mills. His music has been performed and broadcast world-wide.

Published by Dianthus (A0.1461635). In 1934, Clare Harner penned these words as if received through correspondence from her departed brother. The words dismiss death as the finality of life; they speak instead to the multitude of channels the human spirit may travel.PCR has altered the poem's form and modified one original word (sunlight on ripened grain has been changed to sun on ripened grain) and added original music to Clare's powerful public domain poem.

Concerto for Orchestra, opus 111 (2005, rev. 2010)

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869351 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 81 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #15869. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869351). Instrumentation: 3232-4331-timp-2perc-strings. When I received the invitation from Jonathan Cohler to write a Concerto for Orchestra for the Brockton Symphony, I immediately thought of all the composers who wrote works inspired by Bartok’s seminal work of the same title: Roger Sessions, Elliott Carter, Michael Tippett, Witold Lutoslawski, Joan Tower and, most recently, Jennifer Higdon. My Concerto for Orchestra, opus 111, is in five movements. It will be heard without pause between movements. I. Largo … Misterioso! II. Allegro con moto … Evidence!!! III. Adagio … Epistrophy! IV. Andante … In Walked Bud! V. Presto … Rhythm-a-ning!!! My initial idea for the Concerto was contrast - contrast between the timbres and colors that the various sections in an orchestra provide. For example, the woodwinds would provide a sharp contrast against the brass; the percussion section against the strings, etc. I also was interested in writing a work where each movement would flow into the next without pause – thus providing another form of contrast, that of tempi and mood change. A third form of contrast would be the different styles and forms of music that I would come up with. And I had a lot of fun conjuring up the many possible scenarios and orchestral tableaux. I actually started with the second movement: the Allegro con moto. I wanted something that had a nice surging quality that the whole orchestra could jump into. When I finished that, I thought perhaps it would be too intense for the opening of the work. I thought, maybe I should begin with something slower, more brooding in nature before the explosive stuff. I noticed that Carter’s Concerto began with a slow Introduction. It had a title: Misterioso. Being an avid fan of Thelonious Monk, aka Thelonious Sphere Monk, Misterioso brought to mind a Monk composition of the same title. That epiphany gave me the idea of naming each of the five movements after a Monk tune. Monk’s Misterioso is a blues with an insistent theme of 8th note patterns of rising 6ths; which has nothing to do with my first movement. My Misterioso features a solo for the bass clarinet in the midst of a shimmering atmosphere that is punctuated by accents in the bass. They are both mysterious, but divergently opposed in mood and substance. Monk’s Evidence is a tune with jabs and punches, irregularly placed within the measure – not unlike what I did in the second movement. This movement is perhaps the most Monk-ish of all. Monk’s Epistrophy is a tune constructed with a four-note pattern that is angular and twisted. I wrote a solemn brass choir movement that is an epistle in nature, a sermon of sorts. The title of Monk’s In Walked Bud refers, of course, to the amazing pianist Bud Powell. I took the word walk and translated it into an andante. What resulted was a silly, but jolly movement featuring the woodwinds. I wanted to end the work with a fast and furious finale. Inspired by the word rhythm in Monk’s Rhythm-a-ning, I began the last movement with a solo for the percussion section – timpani, tom-toms, bass drum!!! The orchestra eventually joins in the mayhem, breaking into a scherzo-like frenzy. It ends with a big bang!!! Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/concerto-for-orchestra-opus-111-2005

Euphonium - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1110888 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 28 pages. Regis Bookshar #713183. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1110888). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Euphonium Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Euphonium Sextet, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (28 pages) written in Bass Clef. There is also a version written in Treble Clef if you prefer. The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Euphonium Sextet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Euphonium Septet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Euphonium Septet, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (40 pages) written in Treble Clef. There is also a version written in Bass Clef if you prefer. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Euphonium Septet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition.

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108227 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710854. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108227). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Clarinet Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Clarinet Quintet, consisting of 5 Bb Clarinets and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). So, in addition to this arrangement for a Clarinet Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition.
