CIRCUS MUSIC (full set) The four pieces in this set attempt to capture some of the moods of the circus - spectacle, craziness, nostalgia, humor, etc. The pieces are: 1. THREE-RING CIRCUS2. CIRCUS PANTOMIME 3. CIRCUS FELLINI 4. CIRCUS MEMORY The technical level is mostly intermediate and each piece is about 2 1/2 minutes long. THREE-RING CIRCUS is the first piece in the set. It is about the spectacle and craziness of the circus. The harmonies are conventional, incongruous and dissonant. When performing the entire set, Three-Ring Circus begins the set and can also be played again at the end of the set, following Circus Memory. CIRCUS PANTOMIME: Features conventional but off-beat harmonies and rhythms, reminiscent of the musical humor of Erik Satie. CIRCUS FELLINI: Originally composed as a synthesizer demo for film scoring purposes, it has been transcribed as a piano piece. It is inspired by many Fellini films and their music. CIRCUS MEMORY A dream-like nostalgic atmosphere.Â

In this composition, the rhythms are syncopated and accented. The use of accidentals will help students practice combinations of fingerings not always used. Three clarinet and three trumpet parts are included. The melody is passed to the lower voices at one point to give the march contrast and added interest.

In 2011 the group released the CD String Quartets, with performances by the Quarteto Radamés Gnattali. Oliveira is also a member of the group of composers Vox Novus, based in New York.To commemorate 15 years of activity as a composer, Oliveira released a box set with 4 CDs, as well as a CD with composer Mark Hagerty, and produced the series QUINZE, with 13 concerts including his works, between July and October of 2012. More than 130 musicians, including 28 composers, participated of QUINZE (CDs and series).His discography includes 14 CDs as producer, 14 as composer, 22 as general producer, 2 as arranger and 2 as pianist. His catalog of compositions includes approximately 115 works for various ensembles, including Symphony Orchestra. Sergio Roberto de Oliveira is a member of the Latin Academy of the Arts and Science of Recording.He died from pancreatic cancer in 2017.

The piece stays at moderate tempo in 2/4 time throughout. It has a simple ABA form with sub-themes in each section. It opens in F minor, then modulates to F major. The B section is in B-flat major then returns to F major before the recap. With all repeats, performance time is about 2.25 minutes.

In contrast to the more sublime Ruhevoll (and the 4th movement Molto Adagio) Marches utilizes many aspects of the march in various settings, from large brass and woodwind circus venues to trios of soloists, while also encompassing the somber funeral procession. Marches opens the brass and low strings in a dogfight; the brass fire short staccato blasts as 'cellos and basses answer with long lyrical lines setting the pace until the cat and mouse game ends with the low strings driving their way to the trio. When the three soloists finish their introductory theme they are answered by the full orchestra taking the theme and surrounding it with all the boisterous bells and whistles of a circus march! But the reality is that marches are - at their core - war music, and the waste that war causes has to be addressed in the funeral march. These themes are all cycled through once again, with a coda that cleverly ties things up.

Speaking from the trenches myself, I've done my fair share of plate-spinning: managing a household, enduring the rollercoaster ride of a career (complete with loop-de-loops), wrangling three sons who seem to have synchronized their mischief, keeping a marriage afloat through the stormy seas and dealing with the curveballs life tosses our way. He is sometimes known by the sobriquet The Austrian March King.He is best known for his 1893 march Unter dem Doppeladler or Under the Double Eagle, referring to the double eagle in the coat of arms of Austria-Hungary. The march became a favourite part of the repertoire of American composer and bandleader John Philip Sousa, whose band recorded it three times. The piece was the official regimental march of the Austrian Artillery Regiment Number 2 till its dissolution in 2007.The tune was parodied in the Benny Goodman recording Benjie's Bubble, and was also used for the well-known Monty Python's Flying Circus animation segment Conrad Poohs And His Dancing Teeth. The first part of the march is used in the 1992 computer game Great Naval Battles: North Atlantic 1939-1943 when Germany is selected in the gameplay.Wagner is also known for the Holzhackerbuam, also known as the Jolly Lumberjack Polka. This beautiful, melodious and fun piece, which plays for 12 minutes and 17 seconds on the CD, is scored in a bright F major key, has two sections in C major, and employs 43 orchestral instruments, played by 40 musicians. Two percussionists play five instruments. The pianist directs and conducts the work from the piano, or a conductor may be employed instead. I chose a concert grand piano, or a baby grand piano, and a concert harp as the two leading, but not solo, orchestral instruments which are used to showcase the piece. I have included a .mp3 audio clip of this piece to illustrate the neo-classical melodies in it. Divertimenti, were first written by Franz Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during the Classical period, between 1750 and 1809. A divertimento is a short, entertaining, chamber ensemble or orchestral work, usually in the form of an orchestral suite, written in several sections and/or movements. It can have as few as three, or many more instruments! A divertimento does not have a strict format, but a liberal one, within acceptable limits or conventions, and only small chamber ensembles were employed to perform divertimenti in Haydn's and Mozart's day in the eighteenth century. Both a divertimento and a cassation may contain a leading or obbligato instrument(s), or can even be integrated with vocal or choral music. However, divertimenti and cassations never have solo instruments, as in a concerto. An Opus number 1, means that this is the first written work of a composer; opus 2 means the second work, and so forth. 'Opus' means a work, or composition. I sub-titled the piece: Luna Park rides, Milson's Point, N.S.W., 2061, Australia, and circus sideshows. I chose this sub-title because the work reminds me of my childhood days, of the rides at Luna Park, Sydney, such as the Merry-go-Round, the Ferris Wheel, the Cha-Cha, the Dodgem cars, the Rotor, the Mirror Maze, the slippery dips in Coney Island, the River Caves, the Ghost Train - burnt down presumably due to an electrical fault, in December, 1974, killing 7 people, the Giant Pendulum ride, the Giant Spider ride, the Big Dipper, later renamed the Wild Cat and later the Wild Mouse, which is actually a Roller-coaster ride. Some of the Harp part sounds like the movement of the Roller-coaster! Also, the work reminisces on my experience of the Sole Brothers' Circus sideshows, in 1977, such as the targeting games and prizes, and clowns sideshows, which my dad took me to see when I was about 12 years old.

When played as a screamer the tempo is often taken to extremes. Wes Ballenger has done an amazing job of arranging this famous march for a virtuosic Trombone quintet.
