Flute - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Pat Holmberg. 21st Century, Ragtime, Repertoire. Score. 24 pages. Published by Patricia Tanttila Holmberg
Here are fourteen ragtime style flute duets - very contrapuntal - equally challenging and fun in both parts - sure to help teenage flute students keep on with their lessons! Below, find some reviews by flute teachers:Here are some reviews for these duets from flute teachers: ByDr. Mom on November 19, 2013 As a flute teacher, I watch for new and interesting music for my students. These Rags are terrific! They are harmonically and musically interesting, introduce a style to the students with which they may be unfamiliar yet has a "jazzy" feel, and are simple enough in range, rhythm and length (they're relatively brief) to be approachable to the intermediate student - a level at which one often needs interesting music to keep them going! - and above. I had one student who is versed in jazz (plays jazz trumpet) who tried to swing these, so I had the opportunity to work with him on how Rags differ from "swung" jazz, which was kind of fun. I feel these duets fill a need in the modern flute studio, and recommend them highly. Something to Rag about - for students & performers a-like! By Em on November 16, 2013 This 12-piece book is a delightful introduction to ragtime for flutists, who usually don't get the chance to play much jazz or "rag" music. What I perhaps enjoy most about the book is, the 2nd flute part has many chances for nice melodic interplay or fun walking bass lines to accompany the 1st flute. (Unlike many duet books that have a rather stagnant bass line for the 2nd flute/accompaniment.) If you are playing with students who are new to the territory, it is a great book to have them develop an ear for jazz chords. You'll need to review how to swing eighths, since that isn't covered here --it's for Intermediate players after all :). The lines should not be incredibly challenging though, and it is presented in such a way that whether up or down tempo, it's still fun to play. I did like playing most of the pieces up-tempo, though! My top favorite pieces are #5- "Forget-Me-Not", #6 - "Cotton Candy Rag", #11 - "High Country Stomp" (it's nice got a nice lilting feel) and #12- "Green Mountain Saunter." There is a great variety, and each piece has a memorable melody. Grab a flutist friend and play these! If you like to have up-beat and playful tunes (especially during these cold winter months) these will warm you up real fast. Hi Patricia,The Ragtime Miniatures for Two Flutes – Set 1 Intermediate by Patricia Holmberg lends itself to development in rhythmic and reading skills. It offers studies of syncopated rhythms in 4/4 and 12/8. The 12/8 duets support improvement in the student’s triple feel. Also, the changes in meter challenge and support the enhanced reading skills of the student. Furthermore, the chromatic tones offer stylistic colors to the student’s assortment of fingering patterns. Students using the book had a positive response to the melodic content: it was fun to play—a breath of fresh air.Thank you for bringing your book to my attention. We await set two. Phyllis G. Ragtime Miniatures- Intermediate By Jean A. E. on November 7, 2013 This is Intermediate level music, it can satisfy several levels of players, and altho rags come over stylistically the same , these are varied enough . Except for mostly using flat key signatures, and having some confusion in finding your way around repeats and da capos, these are pleasant little works, some of which would make nice concert encores. The only feature I as a performer corrected when my friend and I played them thru was to 8 va some of the too low 2nd parts. Doing this seemed to improve the voicing. So In general, nice work,Pat!!Professional Flutist/ performer Jean A. "Back to School 2015".

Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,Standards,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6473843. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813674). I Vow to Thee, My Country (Thaxted) (Bb) (Brass Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of I Vow to Thee, My Country, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked Andante Maestoso, perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named Thaxted, named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn I Vow to Thee, My Country, other settings of this hymn tune also include O God, Beyond All Praising, by Michael Perry in 1982, O Spirit All Embracing by Delores Dufner in 1995 and We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God, a paraphrase of the Te Deum Laudemus by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone (which has the lead) and 1 Tuba, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of I Vow to Thee, My Country based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Brin.

Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba (which has the lead), he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection.

Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6476667. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813764). Thaxted (Bb) (Brass Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of Thaxted, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn (which has the lead), 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. This marvelous arrangement of O Spirit All-Embracing, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797808 Composed by Hans Neusiedler. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Classical,Multicultural,Renaissance,World. Score and parts. 14 pages. Derek Hasted #6209097. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797808). TANZ and HUPFAUF - 2 GuitarsFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This edition contains Tanz der Wäsherin and Hupfauf. Both will be familiar to many guitarists as they have featured over the years in a number of Graded Examinations. The countermelody is a new addition, which I originally wrote for flute, so that the piece slotted seamlessly into the background music I played with my flute partner at a friend’s wedding. The Tanz is often mistakenly translated as Dance of the Washerwoman, and it’s also known as Wascha Mesa. The Hupfauf is a companion piece, set in a different rhythm but with ostensibly the same harmonic structure (apart from the Tanz’s Coda which is absent from the Hupfauf). Each dance has two beats in the bar, and the two dances can flow into each other or can be played with a short break. When they run into each other, it makes sense to maintain the two-beat pulse, but if this makes the Hupfauf stressful to play, one can maintain instead the value of the half note (minim), so that the Hupfauf proceeds at a more modest pace. You can play the whole piece (each player plays tune and countermelody in turn), or you can shorten the piece by omitting the sections starting at A and B, which also makes the piece ideal for a mixed ability duo, as one player keeps the tune and one keeps the countermelody.Feel free to add dynamics, a little more articulation and possibly some tone color changes.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

They have fun, singable harmonies, are in friendly keys and are designed to be easy to read and not create too much photocopying. It would work brilliantly on a zoom session too! I've left out the second verse here to make it teachable in a short space of time but you could easily add it in.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927168 Composed by George Willson. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 73 pages. George Willson #3515727. Published by George Willson (A0.927168). The piece is at least a grade 3 due to competing time signatures, contrapuntal melodies, and persistent upper register work across several sections.Written during my time in the Army, this march emerged as a sort of musical joke. The melody and rhythm parts alternate between 6/8 and 2/4 (or 2 over 3) time throughout the piece with the quarter and dotted-quarter keeping the same beat. It incorporates nearly every march convention that my friend and I could think of from the low brass taking over the strain and piccolo obbligato to the baffling euphonium arpeggios in the final strain along with the equally bafflingly obnoxious trombone countermelody. At the same time, it breaks convention by granting the horn players the melodic line in the trio section instead of giving them the back beats they love so much. One of the stranger jokes whose meaning one might miss is the mix up of beats at the key change which was done deliberately to put the generals and first sergeants out of step. It also contains a symphony's worth of stingers at the end (because 19-year-old me was hilarious ... apparently).

Published by C.E. Walz (A0.767636). The patriotic tune America (My country 'tis of thee...) is arranged here for a BEGINNING HANDBELL CHOIR. All notes fall within one octave:  G4 - F#5. Practice suggestion:  begin at a slow steady pace, around 60 bpm, and work up to 90 bpm. For school, church, or civic organizations. My friend Maestro had two suggestions for arranging handbells for beginners:  use a familiar melody with the lyrics included (this helps beginning musicians follow along) AND make sure all rhythms follow that melody (there are no extra passing tones to throw players off the beat). I always follow Maestro's musical advice. His fashion advice, not so much!  Key of A, two pages, 1:00 minute performance time.

Score and parts. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #358519. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.750682). With a Little Help from My Friends is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and sung by drummer Ringo Starr, his lead vocal for the album. As the second track on the album, it segues from the applause of the title track. A subsequent recording of the track by Joe Cocker became a hit single in 1968 and an anthem for the Woodstock era.[2] In 1978, the Beatles' recording, paired with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, was reissued as a single, and peaked at number 63 in Britain and number 71 in the United States. Starr has regularly performed the song in concert as a solo artist. With a Little Help from My Friends by the Beatles was ranked number 311 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The you tube video is of my clarinet quartet arrangement, but shows the make up of my arrangement Arranged brass quartet. 2 Tpts, tbn and tuba. Alt F horn part provided for trombone. I have given the tune to tpt 2.
