Recognizing that Canada has not always been at its best, the song also recognizes the great strengths Canada shows as a modern nation and its continued journey towards an equal, peaceful, and just society. Timothy Piper is a composer living in Hull, Quebec where he directs a series of youth choirs, Chorale Lyrica. He is also the Musical Director at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Ottawa, Ontario. His bio can be found at www.choralelyrica.com. Both the audio version and the YouTube video of this song were recorded virtually during the 2020 Covid19 pandemic. This song is the perfect closing piece for any concert focusing on hope, resilience, and of course, Canada (Canada Day, Remembrance Day, etc).

The rhythms are sometimes complex, but very doable. This is a very achievable arrangement for most average community choirs. This piece is meant to be performed with bass and drums. The bass part is included and can be found at the end of the choral PDF. Most drummers will be able to improvise a drum part based on the bass part. Glorificamus Deum is a setting of Psalm 23. This setting works well in both a church service and a concert setting.It takes the very traditional words of the psalm, and spins them with a fresh new approach. The music takes you on a journey from a quiet beginning, into a jazzy-pop expression of wonder as the words joyfully proclaim that goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.... An added refrain of Glorificamus Deum adds an accent of exuberance throughout the piece. This piece of music is not difficult and is accessible to most choirs. Mostly sung in unison, it goes into two parts briefly, but the two parts are canonic and thus, easy to master. The piece is musically interesting for the conductor of a youth ensemble. The range is just over an octave and has young people singing in their head voices. There are opportunities for controlled expressive singing, and also opportunities for more exuberant let-it-out singing. The piece goes back and forth between the major and minor modes. It has one particularly challenging interval with a descending major 7th. As well, there is a large dynamic range and some excellent opportunities for rubato and watching the conductor carefully in the softer, more expressive sections. This piece is fun, melodic, and will be a favorite with every chorister, the instant it is learned.

At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!
