Published by Peggy Carter (A0.945414). The first tune is based loosely on Shule Aroon, a lament from Ireland in which a young lass expresses helplessness after sending her lover to war. The second song is from the Orkney Islands off the Scottish coast. A lonely lass sings of her longing for the homeland, and begs her lover to return. The inclusion of Gaelic phrases helps preserve the language connection. Songs expressing sorrow are excellent literature for Middle School and High School singers and add depth and meaning in a concert setting. This one can be sung a'capella, or with the piano accompaniment. Follow Choral Music by Peggy Carter on FaceBook.

An Eriskay Love Lilt, or Grà dh Geal Mo Chridh to give it's original Gaelic title is a popular Scottish song, originating in the small island of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. The English lyrics were added in 1905 by popular Scots singer Marjory Kennedy-Fraser, who embarked on a project to save many declining Gaelic songs. The song is now very popular and has been recorded by Aled Jones, The Corries and Jean Redpath. The tune is also popular with Scottish churchgoers, with new lyrics and title Lord of life, we come to you.Lyrics to all three verses and chorus are included along with a suggested piano part, although if you'd prefer, you can play the chords on the guitar, ukulele or on any other instrument. If you like this arrangement, please do leave a review.

Piano Accompaniment, Bassoon - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Traditional Gaelic Melody. Arranged by Robert Myers. Contemporary Classical, Sacred, General Worship, Christmas, Easter. Score, Solo Part. 11 pages. Published by WheatMyer Music
The tune BUNESSAN is a traditional Gaelic melody firstprinted in 1888 as the setting of Mary MacDonald's carol "Child in theManger." The tune was named after Mary's birthplace on the Isle of Mulloff Scotland's western coast. BUNESSAN is commonly associated with hymnscelebrating new beginnings: the aforementioned "Child in the Manger,"then the 1931 creation-celebrating hymn "Morning Has Broken," and themore recent but lesser-known 1982 hymn ?Baptized in Water.? The title of this piece, ?A Hymn of Beginnings,?recognizes that association.
Sacred bassoon solos aren?t common and those that exist tendto be quite pedestrian. With a new bassoonist in our church orchestra whosetalents go well beyond the pedestrian it seemed opportune to try something newand thus, ?A Hymn of Beginnings? took shape. The music has a conventional feelbut with a palpable dash of the unfamiliar, achieved through subdued bi-tonalcoloring, matching the major-key melody with a minor-key harmonization thatmoves by descending thirds. Still, it remains quite accessible to the casuallistener with its familiar melody and obvious tonality.
?A Hymn of Beginnings? is suitable for intermediate leveland above musicians and works well at any time of the church year with itscontemplative yet varied moods. Its association with new beginnings makes itparticularly suited to Christmas, Easter, baptismal services, weddings, andothers.

Very strong arrangement for Easter. Duration: 2:48. 84 ms. Score: 7 pg. Solo part 1 pg. piano part 3 pg. Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3] English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel. Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, Baptized In Water, borrows the tune. -Wikipedia
