Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1255098 Composed by Ross Fiddes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 25 pages. Ross Fiddes #848692. Published by Ross Fiddes (A0.1255098). It was in the aftermath of the 2020 summer bushfires in Australia that soprano Ayse Goknur Shanala rang me from Cyprus to suggest I compose a work about climate change, a subject of concern for me.  My research for lyrics did not elicit anything I considered suitable, so I turned to Derek Dowding, a local poet, singer, actor, raconteur, and a person vitally interested in the future of humanity and of the planet.Derek and I had worked together before – he brilliantly performed the role of Abelard in the workshopping and concert performances of my hybrid opera “Abelard and Heloiseâ€, which, in 1997, won the supreme CONDA (City of Newcastle Drama Award)  for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Newcastle Theatre’ against some 200 other stage productions in Newcastle’s bi-centenary year.Derek worked long and late on the lyrics for the work, producing an emotional document covering history, cause and effect.  His words produced musical responses from me which I consider react appropriately to both his words and the subject matter. I hope our listeners will agree. For the musical treatment I had to consider that the length of the work, through-sung, 20+ minutes, required a recurrent grounding to avoid too many thematic ideas getting in the way of the words.  To that end, I created a quasi-reflective section which appears, rondo-style, quite a few times during the length of the piece.  And, for further cohesion, I built an ABA (ternary) section early to address certain word structures.  Mostly, the various sections followed the stanza structure provided by Derek, with some combinations.  My musical style is essentially melodic, but with dramatic and other episodes, be they tonal, astringent, harmonically indecisive and so on.  In building the work I was principally influenced by the impact and flow of the words. The work is quite mammoth for both the singer and the pianist.  I was absolutely delighted that Anna Fraser again premiered a work of mine – in 2015 she marvellously premiered another major composition of mine, reviewed here:  http://soundslikesydney.com.au/reviews/concert-review-the-man-in-the-other-roomacacia-quartetanna-fraser/19830.htmlWe can only hope that the new work ultimately adds to the chorus of warnings and concern about the climactic future that awaits if we continue to ignore or postpone dramatic and urgent attention to addressing the causes of climate change.A living orb cloaked white and blue and greenRevolving and evolving, tight-hugged in orbit flightWe ride her back; dependent, fragile offspring.Suckling all the while …but have we bonded?A world unlike any other world we’ve seenGifted with Water, Air, Earth and perfect Light. The essentials of life. Freely, these gifts she brings.Free for all but how have we responded?                                   Poem© 2020 Derek DowdingRoss FiddesJanuary 2023.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.828227 Composed by John Hatton. Arranged by Paul Thurmond. 20th Century,Baroque,Christian,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. Paul Thurmond #4968929. Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828227). Tune: DUKE STREETUse: Prelude, PostludeOne Sunday my church was singing Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun as the opening hymn. It’s our tradition that the last stanza of a hymn is sung in unison, so that I as the organist can change the harmonization and keep things interesting. Sometimes I know ahead of time what I’m going to do, and sometimes I make it up on the spot.On this particular morning I planned on being spontaneous. (Can spontaneity be planned?) When we got to the final stanza, I threw on the 16′ pedal reed and went to town.I don’t know if this is the case for all musicians, but while I’m playing my brain is working on several different levels. Most of these are involved in actually playing the music, but there’s also a running commentary on how things are going. This commentary is usually really boring: It’s going okay. It’s going okay. It’s going okay. Sometimes the messages are more interesting: Uh-oh. She just dropped her mute. I missed that chord; remember to circle it when we’re done. My page turner appears to be on fire. So: We’re in the final stanza of Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun. Big, majestic hymn. Over a hundred congregants and choir members are enthusiastically singing in unison. I’m leading them from the organ with an improvised accompaniment that involves all of my limbs. It’s fair to say that I was concentrating hard.Suddenly the commentary part of my brain breaks in: Dude, your feet are totally playing Canon in D. Cool!Canon in D is the most famous work of Johann Pachelbel, a German composer who preceded Bach by a few decades. It’s overused at weddings, but it’s actually a really good piece of music. The original is for three violins and a basso continuo part, which would usually have been played by harpsichord and cello. In this case, the basso continuo plays the same eight measures again and again throughout the piece. This technique of repetition is called a ground bass. While that’s going on, the violins play several different themes on top of it.When I was improvising that Sunday, my feet had accidentally wandered into that ground bass part, which happened to fit nicely with the melody we were singing. During the sermon (sorry Pastor!) I started going through the violin themes in my head, seeing if any of them could also match up with the hymn tune. Some of them worked and some didn’t. I decided to write a sort of theme and variations, where the hymn tune appears in various forms. Sometimes it’s played along with one of the violin themes, and sometimes a violin theme serves as an interlude on its own. And except for one passage, the left hand is always playing some version of the basso continuo theme. I also changed the meter from 4/4 to 3/4 to make it more interesting. It culminates in a climax worthy of a king. I hope you enjoy it.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus divisi - SKU: A0.1418462 Composed by Cassy Gress. 21st Century. 10 pages. Cassy Gress #1000029. Published by Cassy Gress (A0.1418462). On April 8, 2024, I had the privilege to be able to view a solar eclipse in totality. I'd previously seen one at around 99% totality, but 100% is a completely different experience. I periodically glanced at the sun in my protective glasses, watching the disc shrink down to nothing, not expecting much other than the absence of a sun. But I looked away for a moment, and my son suddenly cried, It's there!I turned and gasped: the sky was a flat twilight blue, and a crisp brilliant ring glowed in the sky, safe to view with the naked eye. The world was still, strangely silent, alien and new. We all tried to grab as many pictures as we could. After a few minutes, the moon continued its arc across the sky, and the sun's glare abruptly reappeared, already blinding even as a sliver. I can still see that ring in my mind's eye, fiercely burning, as if someone had literally cut a circle out of the sky and exposed another universe behind it.In this piece I tried to capture the growing ominous wonder of an eclipse approaching totality. While the 2024 eclipse was not visible in Russia, the Russian word for sun, Ñолнце (solntse), has a lily-like fragility to it that the English equivalent does not. Various parts of the choir repeat the word throughout the piece, and the repeated ts and s sounds should create a percussive susurrance. Stagger breathing should be used throughout. Also repeated is the Russian word for moon, луна (luna). As the eclipse approaches that crystalline moment of totality, the moon becomes more and more prominent and the text more chantlike. The refrain, first sung by a solo bass at bar 7, and sung in variation by the other parts thereafter, is repeated in its original form once by the sopranos near the top of their range. This represents the sun in final desperate ecstasy, before it too collapses into the inevitability and madness of occultation. After an indefinite sudden pause, the shock of the moment, the choir reverently sings suscipe deprecationem nostram. Glorificamus te. As the moon frees the sun from its cold grip, the menace of the previous section threatens to return, but just as quickly fades, revealing once again Ñолнце в небе (the sun in the sky).

I.Bossa Nova on the Beach Today’s first customers are a group of girls who came to the beach for a holiday.“We need something to match our excitement!”“What could capture the radiance of the sun reflecting on the beach?”They’re having the time of their lives as they decide what to order.“This would be perfect!”One of the girls points out the Beach Bossa Nova. II.Anniversary Waltz At high noon, an elderly couple walks in.“Today is our wedding anniversary.”“We always talked about returning to this beach after we got married here, but we never got round to it.”“Until today!”The sun shining. Seagulls soaring across the sky. Waves gently lapping the shoreline. It was exactly as they’d remembered.Just like the waltz they danced at their wedding, they order the Anniversary Waltz. III.Songs of Nostalgia As the sun begins to set in the west, a customer dressed in unfamiliar clothes enters the cafe.“I wonder where this sea leads to.”The sun shines on half of his face, casting a long shadow.Thinking of his hometown, he gazes at the menu. His eyes tinged with sorrow, he comes across the Song of Nostalgia. Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 1 - SKU: A0.522333 Composed by Unknown - traditional. Arranged by Paul A. Jorg. Christian,Spiritual,Traditional. Octavo. 4 pages. Paul A. Jorg #5869331. Published by Paul A. Jorg (A0.522333). This song is public domain, written in the 1850's, during a time - pre-civil war - when the nation was being torn apart. The writer calms his anxiety by holding on to God's promises. Here are some lyric notes: I am a poor, wayfaring stranger - Wayfaring: traveling especially on foot; peripatetic country preachers; a poor wayfaring stranger. Wandering through this world of woe - Matthew 18:7: Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! And there's no sickness, toil or danger - John 11:4: When he heard this, Jesus said, This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it. Ecclesiastes 2:18-19: I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. Acts 14:22: strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God, In that bright land to which I go - James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.I'm going home to see my Father - John 6:40 - For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. I'm only going over Jordan - Joshua 22:4: Now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan. Yet though dark clouds will gather round me - 2 Corinthians 12:10: That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. I know my way is rough and steep - Psalm 16:11: You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Proverbs 15:24: The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. But beauteous fields lie just before me - Numbers 13:25: We arrived in the land you sent us to see, and it is indeed a magnificient country, a land flowing with milk and honey. Where God's redeemed their vigil's keep - Exodus12:42: Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come. I'm going home to see my mother - Mark 10:29-31: I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions.

C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Rome's Pantheon, based on Greek mythical legends was first constructed over 2,000 years ago as a temple of all the gods. In the year 609, it became a Catholic church.Pantheon for Violin, Horn, and Piano by the great Canadian composer Elizabeth Raum is a seven-movement suite of chamber music depicting various of the Greek gods:1. Eos: Goddess of the Dawn2. Moirae: Gods of Fate3. Aphrodite: Goddess of Love and Beauty4. Zeus and Hera5. Artemis (Diana) Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt6. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals7. Apollo: God of Sun and LightHere are the comments about Pantheon from composer Elizabeth Raum:Pantheon alludes to a temple, a musical temple in this case, devoted to the gods of ancient Greek mythology, several of whom are represented in this work. The first movement opens with a horn call as Eos, Goddess of the Dawn begins her rosy-fingered awakening, and rising from her couch, ascends the heavens in her horse-drawn chariot. She heralds the approach of her brother, Helius, the sun god, whose superior brightness causes her color to fade. In the second movement, The Fates (Moirae) spin their thread of life and death. The minimalist quality of the music, representing the steady turn of the spindle, becomes more and more agitated as Atropos, the Fate who holds the shears, prepares to cut the thread. The hand stopped horn and the Bartok pizzicato signify the final snip. A moment of contemplation, and they begin again. Some try to persuade Atropos to delay a moment, but she cannot be deterred. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, is the third movement. She arose from the foam of the sea and all were charmed by her grace, but she could also be coy and flirtatious as she is in this version. Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods, make up the fourth movement. The opening theme suggests the regal stride of Zeus while Hera, furious at his many infidelities, quarrels with him and schemes to thwart his affairs. In the fifth movement, Artemis (Dawn Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt), holds high her silver bow that gleams in the night sky like the new moon. The clouds drift silently past while she runs with her hounds and dances with her nymphs. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals, sixth movement, is scored for violin and horn alone. He is a very mischievous and cunning god, and his exceptional swiftness is aided by his winged sandals as he flies to carry out his divine duties. And finally in the seventh movement, Apollo the horn again summons the gods. A hymn to Apollo celebrates the god of eternal youth, beauty, and music. This is a major chamber work for Violin, Horn, and Piano of about 26 minutes in length written for Erika Raum, Phil Myers, and Peter Allen and is appropriate for very advanced artists.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1120365 By Philip Le Bas. By J-B Lully / G Bizet. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christmas,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Traditional. Octavo. 8 pages. Philip Le Bas #721616. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1120365). A new arrangement by Philip Le Bas of a thirteenth century French Christmas carol from Provence harmonized by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-87, attrib.) and, more famously, by Georges Bizet (1838-75, in his L'Arlesienne Suite of 1872.) In France the melody is still tightly associated with Christmas, and French audiences start singing their own Christmas words whenever they hear the melody (the arranger has heard it himself!) The English translation used here is adapted from a variety of sources. The three kings (or more precisely the magi from St Matthew's gospel) are seen marching towards Bethlehem with their fantastic golden wealth and grandeur. But why are they going to see a low-born baby and why do they worship this child who will die on a cross? The organ sets the scene from the beginning with its marching accompaniment, and the first verse is sung in unison by all three parts. The second begins with a canon, as used by Bizet, and then breaks into harmony. The first section of the third verse is much quieter and legato, sung by the sopranos and altos, using wonderful chromatic harmonies based on another section from Bizet's suite. The lyrics express wonder at the beautiful music heard from the camp of the kings. The second section, sung in differentiated unison then begins to wonder why the kings stoop so low to a baby in a manger. Finally the fourth verse, sung in full harmony, returns to the marching accompaniment and reiterates the amazement of meeting these kings with their mysterious mission. The carol is aimed at parish choirs with limited resources, but a good organist. The melody is well-known, much of it is in unison, and other sections are relatively easy to sing. Care should however should be taken to sing the dotted rhythms accurately - this is what gives the carol its marching character.

Variations on this famous gospel song by James Milton Black, in which, in various verses, each instrument has a turn at the tune and at the descant accompaniment. One of the verses goes into the minor mode for a bit more variety. The words of the original hymn are: 1 When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more, and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; when the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, and the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. Refrain: When the roll is called up yonder, when the roll is called up yonder, when the roll is called up yonder, when the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. 2 On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise, and the glory of His resurrection share; ahen His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies, and the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. [Refrain] 3 Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun; let us talk of all His wondrous love and care; then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done, and the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. [Refrain] Performed by Anita Szabó Ildikó Szabady Iza Nagy Boglárka Dávid.

Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576366). A vivid and at times raucous celebration of Saturnalia, in Latin, for an ensemble of voices and instruments (including various percussion, woodwind and brass instruments). The sound sample is a sung performance by the composer with an electronic preview of the instruments. Further explanations: Song for Saturnalia - a raucous and fun romp - in whole tones (since there is scant evidence of the types of scales used in those days - whole tones just seem to work in this context). The Latin words make references to relatively modern times but the spirit of Saturnalia is timeless, after all. The pileum (also written pilleum) is the little cap that slave wore during Saturnalia to show they were free men and women on that day - they would point to their cap and say libertus sum (I am a free person) and omnes aequales sumus (we are all equal). The words (and translation - both by me) are as follows: Saturnalia Song Io Saturnalia! Hodie igitur dominus noster non es. [Hooray, it’s Saturnalia, so today you’re not our boss] Hodie omnes aequales sumus. Io! [Today we are all equal, hooray!] [spoof of USA Anthem] Salve O Frutici [Hi there, Bush] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] [spoof of UK Anthem] Salve O Campestri [Hi there, Blair] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] [spoof of German Anthem] Salve O Candelari [Hi there Brandt] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] Io Saturnalia, Io! [Hooray, it’s Saturnalia, hooray!] [Note on the invented names (used in the vocative in the song of course): Fruticius is based on the word frutex a bush - it’s also used to mean blockhead in Roman comedies, but I can’t help that!. Campestrius is based on campester - a plain or place of clear ground (Blair is the Celtic equivalent word - a forest clearing!) Candelarius is based on candela - a taper or candle - ie something burning hence Brandt (yes, I know he’s earlier than the other two politicians, but, hey, it’s all a bit of anachronistic fun!)].

Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1126896). A new acclamation for Palm Sunday, composed by Philip Le Bas. Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey and the people acclaim him as the long-awaited Messiah (the Son of David.) We, in hind-sight, know that they will turn on him within a few days and will have him crucified. It is a moment of excitement and celebration, as the people see all their hopes fulfilled. The Christian liturgy reflects this, often with a congregational procession into the church accompanied by the words below. The music is simple and joyful, and is scored for just three different choral voices (SABar/SAMen), typical of those available in parish churches. After an initial syncopated section, there follows a middle section of dotted rhythms, before returning to the syncopated theme, and ending in a glorious rising Tierce de Picardie. The work is short, breathless and exciting, matching the mood of that early moment in the Palm Sunday celebration.

Flute,Vibraphone,Voice - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1089176 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. Contemporary. 8 pages. Head and Stem #693387. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1089176). Pavel Friedmann wrote the poem “The Butterfly†in 1942 in the Terezin Ghetto when he was 21. He was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1944. Pavel was born in 1921 in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) to a Jewish father and a Christian mother. The Butterfly is a living symbol of the beauty of freedom. Such a free spirit could never have survived the confines of the Warsaw ghetto. But while the butterfly did fly away, the spirit and love of freedom it represented never left the souls of the Jews of the ghetto. They always prayed that one day the barbed wire would come down and the butterfly would reappear. The butterfly flutters there today, but many of the Jews who prayed for its return did not live to welcome it back. The first performance of The Butterfly was given on May 8, 1988 at JASA in New York City. The performers were: Andrew Bolotowsky, flute Glenn Rhian, vibraphone Mimi Stern-Wolfe, reciter There are at least two versions of the poem The Butterfly due to different translations. This work uses VERSION 2 as translated here: The last, the very last, So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow. Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing against a white stone... Such, such a yellow carried lightly way up high. It went away I'm sure because it wished to kiss the world goodbye. For seven weeks I've lived in here, penned up inside this ghetto, but I have found my people here. The dandelions call to me and the white chestnut candles in the court. Only I never saw another butterfly. That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don't live in here, In the ghetto. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Peyton Williams-Morrison #744931. Published by Peyton Williams-Morrison (A0.1144592). The idea for the beginning motif came when I was simply at a piano and began playing around with chords based on quintal harmonies, chords built off of perfect fifths instead of the usual major or minor third. When I wrote this piece, I thought of a scene in which a pair of beings, one with a masculine energy and the other feminine, were dancing quite literally in the clouds. In the B section, the pair holds one another tightly as they share memories of one another, some fond and some bittersweet, before returning to their waltz. In the D section, the feminine being goes her own way and dances solo with a sense of vigor and raw passion. She goes a little too hard and trips, falling on the ground. The masculine being comes to her aid and gets her back on her feet, returning to their waltz once more. By the end, the sun sets and they part ways, sharing a tender embrace and a kiss goodbye.

The fourth piece David Fraser wrote, â??L'océan' {The Ocean}, dedicated to Claude Debussy, uses whole-tone scales throughout as lyrical motifs. The composition unfolds with the allusion of the sun glimmering on ocean waves, followed by the playfulness of eddies and gusts of wind. These themes merge into one another as the wind increases in ferocity, culminating in the start of a storm with sudden strikes of lightning preceded by the reverberation of thunder. The pitter-patter of rain on the water steadily evolves into a full tempest that engulfs the middle section of the piece. As the storm subsides and the ocean calms, night has fallen and the twinkling of stars in the firmament are reflecting upon the water. The piece ends with the return of the opening theme as the sun swiftly rises above the ocean on the horizon. This is the full version of â??L'océan' which is the fourth piece from 'Hommages: Suite pour le Piano'. 40 pages. Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 1 - SKU: A0.719770 Composed by Various. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Sacred. 10 pages. Curtis Hanson #6069399. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719770). As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have mostly elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. (*See below for more comment on the texts in this set.) There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set are Children of the Heavenly Father, Day by Day, Thy Holy Wings, and Beautiful Savior. This collection of arrangements is also available for SATB voices and piano or piano solo.*A note on the texts in this set: Having grown up in a Swedish Lutheran church, the grandson of Swedish/Norwegian immigrants, and currently being choir director of another Swedish Lutheran church, these hymns have a special place for me. This medley of hymns was originally arranged for my church choir with the first verse of each in Swedish. Being under copyright, permission was obtained to use the more familiar English translations of the first three songs for local use. For this edition, I have opted to create my own texts for the first and third hymns while the second hymn is a translation in public domain. I have also provided a verse in English in lieu of the Swedish for those Nordically challenged. The fourth hymn is not a Swedish melody but for obvious reasons is a mainstay of the Lutheran hymnal. Like the other hymns, the first verse is in Swedish while the other traditional verses are also public domain.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.906752 Composed by Joy GIlmore, Hsin Hui Kuo. Contemporary,Jazz. Score. 8 pages. Joyful Sound Music #3860597. Published by Joyful Sound Music (A0.906752). Sunday Morning Boogie Advance level This is the second Boogie song I wrote. I studied Classical music when I was in College. I never had a chance to listen to Jazz, Blues and Boogie music. I had no idea of how the Boogie song works. However, when I moved to the States, I had more chances to experience these types of music. I like the swing rhythm. It makes people want to dance. It makes people want to swing their body with the music. On one Sunday morning, I had the melody of this song in my head. Therefore, I decided to write down what I heard. When playing this song, a special skill is needed. Please do not use the skill of turning fingers. The turning fingers over and under is often used when playing scales. Like turning 1 under 3 or turning 3 over 1, etc. The turning finger skill is going to slow down the flow of this song. What you can do is to move the whole hand to the next position instead. Also this skill will help you when playing the ornament notes (appoggiatura notes) smoothly. This PDF is designed to for two sided printing. It is going to look like a sheet music book. This is the reason why there is one blank page in some of the songs. You can also just print the sheet music pages only.
