ORCHESTRAL SCORES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL The Te Deum for mixed choir and symphony orchestra by Lorenzo Ondarra (1931- 2012) was composed in 1998 at the request of the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars, to commemorate the First Centenary, in 2000, of the Restoration of the Navarre, Cantabria and Aragón Capuchin Province. The main theme is the Gregorian melody of the Te Deum, a thanksgiving hymn, which combines the melody of the Tonus Solemnis and the Tonus Simplex. The Gregorian melody alternates between the choir and the orchestra, and develops in a free style as a paraphrase, with frequent melodic movements through parallel fourths and fifths: a typical feature of Ondarra’s compositional language. Modal features permeate the entire work, succeeding one another with tonal sections and even bitonal elements. Ondarra’s orchestration reflects an outstanding work, in which the wind instruments, together with the ubtlety of the woods and strings, plays an important role. Through its deep religiosity, the work combines recollection and the invitation to prayer with moments of brilliance in the treatment of the voices, which are exquisitely interwoven with the orchestral timbres. El Te Deum para coro mixto y orquesta sinfónica de Lorenzo Ondarra (1931- 2012) fue compuesto en 1998 por encargo de la Curia Provincial de los Hermanos Capuchinos, para conmemorar el Primer Centenario, en 2000, de la Restauración de la Provincia Capuchina de Navarra, Cantabria y Aragón. El material temático principal es la melodÃa gregoriana del Te Deum – himno de acción de gracias – alternando la melodÃa del Tonus Solemnis y del Tonus Simplex. La melodÃa gregoriana aparece de forma alternada por el coro y por la orquesta, y se desarrolla en un estilo libre a modo de paráfrasis, con frecuentes movimientos melódicos por cuartas y quintas paralelas, propios del lenguaje compositivo de Ondarra. Los rasgos modales impregnan toda la obra, y se suceden con secciones tonales e incluso con elementos bitonales. La orquestación de Ondarra refleja un brillante trabajo, otorgando una presencia importante a los instrumentos de viento, junto a la sutileza de maderas y cuerdas. La obra combina desde su profunda religiosidad, el recogimiento y la invitación a la oración, con momentos de luminosidad en el tratamiento de las voces, exquisitamente entretejidas con los timbres orquestales. Material tematiko nagusia Te Deum -eko melodÃa gregorianoa da, Tonus Solemnis-eko eta Tonus Simplex- eko melodiak aldizkatuz. Melodia gregorianoa txandaka azaltzen da koruaren eta orkestraren bitartez interpretatuz eta Ondarraren konposatzeko eran ohikoa den bezala estilo libre batean parafrasi moduan garatuta eta gehienetan laudun eta bostun paraleloekin egindako melodiekin osatuta dago. Obra ezaugarri modalez beterik dago, sekzio tonalak eraikiz edota elementu bitonalak izanik. Ondarraren orkestrazioak lan paregabea helarazten du, haize-instrumentuen presentzia nagusituz eta zur-instrumentuen eta hari instrumentuen presentzia sotilduz. Above all, the song speaks to the value of old friends, despite the fact that life circumstances and people themselves are ever changing.

Published by David Fraser (A0.1384065). David Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. Specifically, Fraser uses a similar structure in Movement 1, starting at Measure 72 marked â??più mosso e con abbandonoâ?, to the notoriously difficult â??colossaleâ? section of Prokofievâ??s â??Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16â??, Movement 1. The sonataâ??s Movement 3 also follows a structure parallel to Movement 4 of Prokofievâ??s aforementioned piano concerto, employing fiendishly challenging syncopated jumps in both hands. Written in ternary form, Movements 1 and 3 of Fraserâ??s sonata are in C minor; Movement 2 is in E-flat minor, instead of the expected relative or dominant key. This work has explosive sentiments of rage that elicit a sense of immensity and darkness, touching on the macabre yet maintaining an alluring nature. The inspiration for the second movement comes from the German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. The music begins with Hansel and Gretel walking into the witchâ??s house made of gingerbread, cake, and candy. The children have a sense of unease and fright once they enter the house, which is demonstrated in the music by the eeriness and darkness of the harmonies. The term oscuro is found at the beginning of the music â?? this is the Italian word for dark. The repeat, which begins at measure 25, is marked sempre sotto voce which translates to always under the voice, meaning always in a hushed tonal quality and dynamic volume. This section represents the children trying to tip-toe out of the house without the witch taking notice. The repeat is almost identical to the beginning section, with the exception of measures 39 and 40 which have ties in the right hand; the similar measures 15 and 16 in the first section do not have these ties. Jules Demersseman was born on January 9, 1833 in Hondschoote, a small town in the north of France now near the border of Belgium. He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1844 in the class of Jean-Louis Tulou and won a first prize in flute in 1845. Demersseman had a career as a pedogogue and soloist, often performing his own compositions. A close friend of Adolphe Sax, he wrote some of the first works ever written for the saxophone, as well as for the saxhorn and for Sax‘s valved trombone, most of which were published by Sax himself.. Demersseman died in Paris on December 1, 1866 at the age of 33. The work is in the form of a Cavatina and Cabaletta, a vocal aria form used in Bel Canto operas during the life of Demersseman. In this form, a slow, expressive and ornamented melody (the cavatina), usually with solo cadenzas is followed by a faster, usually more dramatic but equally florid section (the cabaletta). Famous examples of this form include the aria Una voce poco fa in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Casta diva ... Ah! bello a me ritorno in Bellini‘s, Norma. It is important to listen to vocal performances in this style, especially in performing the solo cadenzas, which (in spite of the notation) are not necessarily meant to be performed as virtuoso effects., but rather as a means of displaying expression and beautiful tone. The piano part, obviously written to be quickly readable for a conservatory accompanist, has been modified to provide a fuller sound for the concert hall. If the work is used for examinations, these doublings may be changed back to single notes, if desired. Other dynamics, articulations, and expressive marks, absent in the first edition, have been added.

The Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, also known as the Pastoral Symphony, is a symphony composed by Ludwig vanBeethoven and completed in 1808. One of Beethoven's few works containing explicitly programmatic content (instrumental music that relates a story or portrays a scene), the symphony was first performed in the Theater an der Wien on22 December 1808 in a four-hour concert.The finale, which is in F major, is in 6/8 time. The movement is in sonata rondo form, meaning that the main themeappears in the tonic key at the beginning of the development as well as the exposition and the recapitulation. Like many classical finales, this movement emphasizes a symmetrical eight-bar theme, in this case representing the shepherds' song of thanksgiving.The coda starts quietly and gradually builds to an ecstatic culmination for the full orchestra (minus storm instruments)with the first violins playing very rapid triplet tremolo on a high F. There follows a fervent passage suggestive of prayer, marked by Beethoven pianissimo, sotto voce; most conductors slow the tempo for this passage. After a brief period of afterglow, the work ends with two emphatic F-major chords.Here is an excerpt of this magic music for Violin and Cello that can be used as a short closer or filler, under the appropriate circumstances.

Arranged standard brass quintet Mozart's textual inspiration is apparent in the Tuba mirum (Hark, the trumpet) movement, which is introduced with a sequence of three notes in arpeggio, played in B♠major by a solo tenor trombone, unaccompanied, in accordance with the usual German translation of the Latin tuba, Posaune (trombone). Two measures later, the bass soloist enters, imitating the same theme. At m. 7, there is a fermata, the only point in all the work at which a solo cadence occurs. The final quarter notes of the bass soloist herald the arrival of the tenor, followed by the alto and soprano in dramatic fashion. On the text Cum vix justus sit securus (When only barely may the just one be secure), there is a switch to a homophonic segment sung by the quartet at the same time, articulating, without accompaniment, the cum and vix on the strong (1st and 3rd), then on the weak (2nd and 4th) beats, with the violins and continuo responding each time; this interruption (which one may interpret as the interruption preceding the Last Judgment) is heard sotto voce, forte and then piano to bring the movement finally into a crescendo into a perfect cadence. My arrangement gives the trombone part to the horn, and the vocal entries are given to the trombone, horn and two trumpets. . Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618.
