Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799603). This is my own arrangement of one of my favorite Chopin waltzes for the piano. As the Duo del Mare, violinist Amy Schlicher and I performed this arrangement aboard the ms Zaandam cruise liner, where it proved very popular. Because Amy and I did not have extra time or venues in which to rehearse, I intentionally made this arrangement very accessible (so that we could play it well without rehearsal or an intermediate-level duo could master it with some practice). This waltz would make a great encore or showpiece on your next program.About the Arranger:Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo is a versatile pianist, composer, and scholar currently based in Bloomington, Indiana. She holds a B.Mus in Music Theory from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where she studied piano under Michele Cooker and Louis Nagel; she also studied composition with Bright Sheng and basso continuo/harpsichord accompaniment with Edward Parmentier. In 2006 and 2007, Nicole appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ambassador Chamber Players, featuring works of J. S. Bach and Mozart alongside two performances of her own Piano Trio in C minor. Following her graduation from Michigan, Nicole completed an MM in Music Theory from Indiana University-Bloomington, where she has recently become a PhD candidate in the same field; her dissertation research will explore relationships between selected early partimenti (instructional sketches used by Italian composition teachers) and George Frideric Handel’s compositional techniques. Currently, Nicole is a sought-after private instructor of piano, music theory, and composition on the IU campus, where she is also an active mostly-vocal accompanist. Nicole continues to enjoy musical partnerships with students of nearly every current IU voice department faculty member (and she unashamedly absorbs and borrows teaching/coaching/performing tips from all these professors). In addition, she has taken French and German diction courses with Prof. Gary Arvin. Notable recent engagements include the 2016 and 2017 National Society of Arts and Letters Vocal Competitions (multiple entrants); the Opera Night at North benefit concert with students of IU's top-ranked opera program (among them Accidental Tenor Andrew Lunsford); and two long-term cruise ship performing contracts with violinist Amy Schlicher as the Duo del Mare.When not working on one of her many concurrent musical projects, Nicole might be found maintaining The Collaborative Pianists’ Community on Facebook, cuddling the nearest dog, looking for opportunities to maintain her Spanish and Italian language skills, and raising and releasing monarch butterflies. This is a waltz in D minor for piano solo that I have composed in 2020 and slightly modified in 2021. If played as I imagine it its length should be around 4'30. It starts simply, with a melancholic melody (A) and then it switches to a difficult section (B) in which the player will need power - especially on the left hand - and technical skills. The dynamic and mood contrast between A and B should be huge. The main theme then comes back, but very modified and contaminated (A1). One last theme is exposed (C) before the reprise (A) and the conclusion of the music piece. There are many modulations in this waltz but none of them leads to a stable tonaily change. ISBN 9790570484768.This Suite is perhaps the most famous work by this composer still regularly performed. Each movement is an exquisitely crafted miniature showcasing an aspect of the flute. The opening Allegretto is flowing and melodic, the Idylle is tranquill and languid, and the final Waltz bubbles across the whole range of the flute with almost a circus like feeling. This arrangement brings a new light to this perpetual flute favourite, with the ensemble parts supporting the soloist. Take care not to overpower the soloist, particularly in the second movement as the solo flute explores the lowest end of the instrument's register.

Donald Ashwander's Peacock Colors invites listeners into a kaleidoscopic world of sound, where the boundaries between genres blur and the palette of emotions shifts like the iridescent hues of a peacock's plumage.In June 1967, Ashwander reflects, I awoke to a wonderful rainy morning. As the coffee dripped, I was filled with the luxurious feeling of having a day completely unscheduled. A perfect day for writing a new rag - the kind of rag that had never before been written. A Blues Rag-Waltz, I thought, that's the ticket! The composition, however, would not stay darkly blue as I had intended. Purples, browns, greens and in-betweens began to creep in. When the piece was complete, it had become an Iridescent Rag-Waltz. Sitting on top of my piano was an Art Nouveau vase filled with peacock feathers.With this anecdote in mind, one can trace the genesis of Peacock Colors. There are moments of playful whimsy, where the music seems to skip and twirl like the feathers of a dancing peacock, as well as passages of introspective reflection, where the harmonies deepen and the melodies take on a more contemplative tone.Ultimately, Peacock Colors is a testament to the power of music to transcend boundaries and capture the imagination. In Donald Ashwander's hands, the piano becomes a canvas, and each note a brushstroke, painting a vivid portrait of a world where waltz and ragtime intertwine in a glorious display of color and emotion.

In its broader sense, nada que ver is just that: there is nothing to see (this is what the police usually say when they want you not to stop). But as an idiom, nada que ver implies what you are saying is absolutely unrelated and therefore you are totally wrong. Why is this waltz mercenary? Because it is very direct, traditional and does not intend to experiment with anything. In addition to the original version (for solo piano) the composer has made one for violin and piano (which can be played without major problems with flute, or with clarinet with slight adaptations).
