Time: 2:20 It was December 2006 when I performed the First Friday Concert at the Atrium Retirement Community (now Brookdale San Jose). At the end of the program, the entertainment director presented me with a Christmas gift bag. Inside were Christmas cards from many of the residents expressing to me their holiday best wishes and how much they appreciated and enjoyed my once a month concerts. I was deeply touched by all who wrote words of kindness, thoughtfulness and gratitude. After the performance, I left feeling inspired to write a special song for all of them. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN is that special song. I printed copies of the music and words which I presented to the Atrium residents. At the next First Friday, January 2007 concert, I performed it for the first time. This special song is: “Dedicated to all the wonderful people who live at the Atrium Retirement Community, December 2006.†The sheet music is clearly notated with meaningful lyrics, chords, piano accompaniment and vocal part. It makes a wonderful song for concluding concerts that audiences will love and appreciate. Towards the end of the year 2020 it became very clear that the Corona virus would make it impossible to meet first time since more than 35 years. When I realized that, some words an a melody came to my mind and I wrote this canon for the participants of the Neustifter Musikwoche (www.neustifter-musikwochen.de). We met in some video conferences, talked and had fun in spite of the situation. And I gave this song to the participants to sing it and record the own singing. You can hear and see the result in the youtube channel form the Neustifter Musikwochen. Faith, hope an love are the them of the song, according to 1Kor 13,13. Its intention is not to lose hope and confidence, not even in times like these. Also in 2021 we could not meet singing together in Obermarchtal. But were looking forward hopefully. Note: The edition from 2021 published her contains a few small changes compared to the recording from 2020. ...... Seit 1984 treffen sich jährlich zum Jahreswechsel musikbegeisterte Menschen aller Altersstufen im Bildungshaus Kloster Obermarchtal. direkt oberhalb der schönen Donau gelegen, um gemeinsam zu musizieren. Als gegen Ende des Jahres 2020 klar wurde, dass aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie die Musikwoche zum Jahreswechsel erstmals seit über 35 Jahren nicht würde stattfinden können, kamen mir in Anlehnung an die Worte des Paulus im ersten Korintherbrief (1Kor 13,13) die Worte und die Melodie dieses Liedes in den Sinn, und ich schrieb diesen Kanon. Statt in Obermarchtal trafen wir uns einige Tage lang immer wieder in Videokonferenzen, feierten sogar eine kleine Andacht zu Silvester. Ich schickte Noten und die Aufnahme einer Klavierbegleitung an die Teilnehmer, und einige sangen das Lied und schickten mir ihre Aufnahmen. Es entstand eine virtuelle Choraufnahme, die im Youtube-Kanal der Neustifter Musikwochen zu sehen und zu hören ist. Auch im vergangenen Jahr 2021 konnten wir uns nicht zum gemeinsamen Singen treffen. Aber wir blicken weiterhin hoffnungsvoll nach vorne, glauben an die Zukunft, an das Leben und an die Liebe. Perform this original work of Celtic Irish setting from her CD (Gypsy Road,2012) scored for harp ensemble of intermediate to advanced players.  Scored in E minor with no lever changes it features a creative slip-jig with lush and effective harmonies.  A rare opportunity to showcase programmatic skills for the harp ensemble.  The dark and mysterious musical message will touch the hearts of all who hear it.About the CompositionI wrote this when I was very angry at the world.  Someday I might meet a black hound on a dark night... and we’ll both go hunting together.Black Dogs,  Black Hounds, The Hounds of Hell,  Dogs of Hell,  Gabriel Hounds, Yell Hounds,  Barghest,  Black Dog of the Hanging Hills, Gurt Dog or the Hounds of Herne the Hunter… by whatever name, they are a common feature in the folklore of the British Isles.  The Black Hounds of Cŵn Annwn are the spectral hounds of Annwn, the otherworld of Welsh myth.  Early Christians came to dub these mythical creatures as The Hounds of Hell or Dogs of Hell and erroneously theorized they were therefore owned by Satan.  However, the Annwn of medieval Welsh tradition is an otherworldly paradise and not a hell or abode of dead souls. The Black Hounds are a nocturnal apparition, and their appearance was regarded as a portent of death. They are supposed to hunt on specific nights in the autumn and winter when it is believed that the howling of these huge dogs foretold death to anyone who heard them. *************************************************About the Composer Laura Olson (ASCAP) is a retired California music educator with over 30 years of experience specializing in stringed instruments and orchestras. She holds a B.A. in Music Education and M.A. in Irish Traditional Music Performance (fiddle, flute, and harp). Her experience as a symphonic musician, ethnic musician, and Film/TV composer led her to combining the three aspects of music into her own compositions and arrangements; storybook music in cinematic style. She is the owner of her recording and publishing label Blue Steer Studios(ASCAP) which allows her to combine her composing skills with knowledge of both the business and publishing aspects of music industry. Winner of a Silver Ace Award from the Las Vegas Film Festival she has composed music for all types of media, including Film/TV, web and advertising, and her own personal music in audio CD and sheet music. The entire piece is meant to convey a simple story of witnessing the change of different lifestyles, from the peaceful and simple rural life to the electrifying grandeur of urban city life. The prelude, signifying the rural atmosphere, begins with unsettling chords that feel seasonal and constantly moving. The different string melodies are as lovingly soothing as playing in the grassy fields and mountains. They are fun, pleasant, and whimsical, and they express the rather playful and tranquil setting of rural living. The beginning chords may feel unusually active, but it also adds to the color of this calming tranquility. Life couldn't be any better. In contrast to the fun and joyful theme of the prelude, the allegro embodies the absolute hustle and bustle of the big city. Explosive harmonies progress through the movement. Melodies from the prelude now intertwine with this new faster theme, playing more lively and vigorous. The mood has changed. Everything seems fast-paced and maybe overloading. But, maybe that's not a bad thing. A bit into the movement, as the hustle and bustle finally slow down, the essence of the prelude returns to calm the music. Homesickness mixed with overwhelming emotions is just as powerful of an expression as joy or anger. Filled with confidence and resolve, the music quickens back into its fast theme. The nature of intense focus, inspired by the urban surroundings, mixes with the joy and fun of the old ways. Everything now seems not just more familiar and comforting, but lively as well. As the music reaches its end, those unsettling chords from the prelude return to once again remind us that the rural lifestyle will always be a part of us. Maybe this city life won't be such a bad thing. We experience the best life when it comes with change. While I never lived in a rural community myself, I can empathize with the experience of people who have from their own stories and emotions. And when they move into the overwhelming cityscape, they sometimes either break down or build up. In the end, though, I can never really understand what it is like until I move into a rural community. But I know nothing will ever change how they grew up there, as the experiences always seem to follow them into the next chapter of their adventures. And it is because of that kind of beautiful resolve, did I nickname this Prelude and Allegro Urbanalia. When life meets change it opens up a whole new story.
