Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1145782 By Barry Manilow. By Richard Kerr and Scott English. Arranged by Unimusic Academy (Academia Unimusica). Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 4 pages. Unimusic Academy (Academia Unimusica) #745983. Published by Unimusic Academy (Academia Unimusica) (A0.1145782). Mandy is a romantic song that has had several versions. It was recorded for the first time in 1971, with the title Brandy by Scott English, however, it achieved popularity with the version of the American Barry Manilow in 1974, being his first song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and his first golden song.12 In 1992 Italian music producer Marco Parmigiani produced a Eurodance version on 12-inch vinyl. It was released in Italy on the Disc-O-Very Records label, and a year later it was published in Spain on the mythical Barcelona label Max Music. The version sounded a lot in the Valencian discos of the 90s. It was later re-recorded by the Irish group Westlife in 2003, becoming the number one version of the UK chart. The song also appeared in several movies, such as Can't Hardly Wait, being performed by various characters. One theory is that because of Manilow's alcoholism, Brandy became Mandy. Scott English is thought to have written Brandy after his favorite dog that he let get away. English claimed (as quoted in The Billboard Book of Number One Adult Contemporary Hits) that an assistant phoned him early that morning to ask who Brandy was, and he angrily lied that it was a dog so that she would conversation will end quickly. When Manilow recorded Mandy he was not satisfied with the electronic rhythm of the original English version, so he preferred to sing it as a ballad and was much more pleased with the results. The song was parodied on Gift Grub under the title Andy on The Drew Carey Show, where the name Mandy is replaced with Kyra. Who also performed a parody of Mandy was the German singer LaFee at the age of 13. Thanks to this imitation, called Handy, it was that a music producer discovered her in a singing contest for children in Germany. Korean actor, singer and model Jang Keun Suk sings this song during the movie You are my pet It also appeared in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (originally aired November 2006), and in an episode of The Simpsons, Homer sings it to Margo as Oh, Margo. Years later, in an episode of Family Guy, Manilow himself sings Gregg a version of his song, Oh, Quagmire..

Piano Accompaniment, Bass Trombone and Piano - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Pierce, Alan. 21st Century, Romantic Period, Contemporary Classical, Post-Romantic. Solo Part. 31 pages. Published by Cherry Classics Music
My first season with the Oregon Symphony was 1962-1963. I was so excited when I was told that I was accepted into the Portland Symphony (now Oregon Symphony), I danced and jumped up and down. I can still see myself. Its was like winning the Powerball. I was only 17 years old. What is equally amazing is that 45 years later I retired from a career that very few people can ever experience. I was bass trombonist my first year in the Oregon Symphony and was principal trombonist my third year. I also traveled with the New York Metropolitan Opera National company for 84 weeks as principal trombonist and was bass trombonist of the Portland Opera for 18 years. I played in the Peter Britt Orchestra for two seasons and also in the Anchorage, AK. music festival. I was a scholarship winner to Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass. and the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. I was privileged to perform with Leopold Stowkowski and Erik Leinsdorf. None of this would have been possible without my early training with the Portland, Youth Philharmonic under the leadership of maestro Jacob Avshalomov.<br> <br> I have met many famous people and have played the world's greatest music. The Oregon Symphony music directors and conductors have been magnificent and have each brought many special talents to the orchestra. I remember special concerts featuring Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Isaac Stern, Leonard Rose, and many others.<br> <br> During my time in the Oregon Symphony I developed a hobby of making batons for some of the conductors who visited our orchestra. Most recently, I made batons for Itzhak Perlman, James DePreist, Carlos Kalmar, Riccardo Mutti, Murry Sidlin, Hannu Lintu, Karel Mark Chichon,<br> <br> Andre Watts, and many others.<br> <br> Since establishing the Alan Pierce Piano Service in 1976, I have tuned pianos for the Oregon Symphony, Andre Watts, Lawrence Leighton Smith, James DePreist, Murry Sidlin, Norman Leyden as well as for many churches, schools and prominent piano teachers. Most recently I tuned the piano in the home of world famous Janet Guggenheim. One of my most special memories was an all expense paid trip to Scottsdale, Arizona to tune the piano of a prominent surgeon. While in Arizona, I had the chance to spend time with the late James DePreist who had a home in the area. For two summers, I also served as piano technician for the Sunriver Music Festival I am currently the president of the Reno chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. <br> <br> Most recently I got to meet Geoge Curran, bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. My wife and I traveled two times to hear him perform my Romanza and Scherzo for bass trombone and piano. What a thrill to hear a world famous trombonist perform my music. I am very honored that George Curran recorded my music on his latest CD. (Vital Signs)My first season with the Oregon Symphony was 1962-1963. (Vital Signs)

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1334145 Composed by Trad & Alan Edgar. Folk,Traditional. 36 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #920362. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1334145). Here'a suite about life in the Isle of Man based on Manx folk tunes and religious music.  All the harmonies and some decorations are mine. There are 5 movements. I MAINLY CELEBRATIONS:  I found all the melodies in The Mona Melodies, a group of traditional tunes (probably heard in Douglas) collected in 1820.  Hunt the Wren is a surprising, lively, traditional event on St Stephen's Day when villagers dance and sing round the town hoping for gifts. This tune is dorian.  A Lullaby in aeolian follows, then In Praise of Wine, in ionian, while at the same time fragments of the Lullaby are heard from inside a home.  The Wren group return.II FAITH Religious music  I assume could have been heard in Manx churches.  Two supposedly Celtic-style antiphon melodies from a 13th-century breviary from Caen  (a) The Holy Cross (b)  The Saints.  I made them into parallel organum with a drone.  Between them is an elaborate ancient melody (labelled Martyrs) for Psalm 80 (Lord, come and save us), which I found with Gaelic words.  I accompany with 3 more parts.  The whole movement is in dorian mode.III EMOTIONS:  Mourning for a Prince is a mixolydian tune also found in The Mona Melodies.  I give the tune to the viola.  In Praise of Beauty is sung by the cello in C major.  This tune is also found in The Mona Melodies, as Brown Oxen (Berry Dowin).  William Brown (Illiam Dhoan) (should be Dhone, I believe) is the air used for Love Lost and Found: again from The Mona Melodies.  I made it C minor at first (love lost) , then  the original version in F major (love found).IV CAR JUAN NAN (Let's All Dance) is a reel, from which I took a few bars and made it into a round.  My source was the book Ed. Colin Jerry Kiaull yn Theay 1:  Manx music and songs for folk instrumentsV WORK, REST and PLAY.  The Spinning Song is major/ionian, the Milking Song is major pentatonic, but my mooing bass part does not respect that: I found those tunes in  Kiaull yn Theay.  The Harvest Celebration Dance (Yn Mheillea) is from manxmusic.com.  The Goodnight Song (Arrane Oie Vie) was traditionally sung after a Christmas Eve event in the church, after more formal proceedings and after the singing of many gloomy vaguely religious songs there and a visit to the pub.  Collected from Mr E, Corteen and Mr T.  Taggart of Malew:  my source:  manxmusic.com.DURATION: 15 minutes.

String Ensemble,String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802693 Composed by Anon. or Fernando Sor, or Narciso Yepes. Arranged by Shigeo Ida & Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 6 pages. Peet du Toit #6513457. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802693). Romance Anónimo (Anonymous Romance) is a piece for guitar, also known as Estudio en Mi de Rubira (Study in E by Rubira), Spanish Romance, Romance de España, Romance de Amor, Romance of the Guitar, Romanza and Romance d'Amour among other names. Its origins and authorship are currently in question. It is suspected of originally being a solo instrumental guitar work, from the 19th century. It has variously been attributed to Antonio Rubira, David del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor, Daniel Fortea, Miguel Llobet, Antonio Cano, Vicente Gómez, and Narciso Yepes. The Anónimo (anonymous) part of its name has been incorporated over the years due to this uncertainty. The question of authorship has probably been propagated by three main reasons: the lack of claim by its true author, the desire to avoid paying copyright fees, and the desire of publishing companies to claim the lucrative copyright of this world-famous piece. The style of the piece is that of the Parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America, having a closed three-part form: the first in the minor key and the second being in the major key, with the third being a restatement of the first.Narciso Yepes (1927 - 1997) interpreted and is listed as the author of the piece in René Clément's 1952 film Jeux interdits (Forbidden Games). The popularity of the film gave the piece worldwide fame. Yepes currently has the copyright of this composition in Spain although recordings and manuscripts of this song predate 1952. Newer publications show Yepes as the arranger and the piece being of anonymous authorship, or authored by Fernando Sor.The official statement from Narciso Yepes and the Yepes heirs is that Narciso Yepes, being a young boy, originally composed the piece for his mother when he was about seven years old (c.1934) and soon thereafter performed it between acts at the Teatro Guerra, in Lorca, Spain. Some time later, he recounts, when he was thirteen years old he attended a performance in Valencia and heard his composition performed by another guitarist, who indicated the authorship as anonymous. Yepes contends that the melody had been plagiarized (with some changes to the arrangement) by someone who, he assumes, must have attended that first performance. However, Yepes was born 1927 and cannot be the author of the work, since it was already recorded in 1900 and published before 1925 (possibly 1913) by J.A. MEDINA e HIJO; and in 1919 in themethod of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, etc. Vicente Gomez (1911-2001) published it and performed it in 1941 in the Hollywood movie Blood and Sand with Tyrone Powerand Rita Hayworth, also attributing authorship of the song to himself. Anyway, the piano arrangement of the brilliant Shigeo Ida caught my attention and I decided to rework it somewhat into this trio for strings. Enjoy!

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912906 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. 93 pages. Brandon Nelson #1954835. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912906). Imagine the terrifying prospect of having your fate-indeed, the fate of the entire universe-decided by the fickle whims of seven gods! This was life for all those who dwelled in the ancient society of Sumeria! They Who Decide Fate paints the picture of what living with these gods might have been like for those pitiable mortals. The introduction builds to the dreadful fate theme, which is woven within the rest of the piece. In the first episode, the Eb clarinet is highlighted depicting Enki, the magical, clever Lord of the Earth. Crafty and mischievous, one would not cross this god, so mighty he was said to have created the Tigris and Euphrates rivers between which the entire Sumerian world existed! The full orchestra comes roaring back to represent Shamash, the Lion of Justice. Bringing wrongdoers their just due, he could also be merciful, curing the faithful sick who plead for his mercy. The second episode is gently ushered in by the Basset horn. Featured here is Ninhursag, the mild, nurturing Mother Goddess. It was said that any couple who desired to be fertile would do well to propitiate themselves to herâ?¦ An explosive, percussive jolt fanfares in Inanna, wild, untamed Goddess of Primal Passions! Whether in war or in lust, Inanna stood for all things raw-and ultimately destructive! The low, rumbling voice of the contralto clarinet brings us Anu, Father of the Gods. Ancient and wise, Anu is the manifestation of the heavenly vault. Nanna, the moon god riding on the back of a bull, illuminated the night sky. Sparkling and light colors of the orchestra depict his deft, spry nocturnal motions. The sinuous lines of the Bb clarinet illustrate Enlil, fickle God of Wind and Weather. It is said that it was he who created humans, but lost interest in them and flooded the whole earth. The whole clarinet quartet reprises the fate theme one last time, ending in an exultant flurry, reflecting both the fear and ecstasy that these seven gods inspired in their mortal charges. Oboe,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1276462 Composed by Robert Schumann. Arranged by Zellev. 19th Century,Christmas,Classical,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and part. 22 pages. Zellev Music #868187. Published by Zellev Music (A0.1276462). The Three Romances for Oboe and Piano, Op. 94 (German: Drei Romanzen) is a composition by Robert Schumann, his only composition for oboe. It was composed in December 1849. The work consists of three short pieces in A-B-A form, and it was written during what was speculated to be one of Schumann's manic episodes. An average full performance lasts roughly 12 minutes. The Romances were written in December 1849, one of the most productive years of Schumann's entire career. Previously that year, Schumann had written two other works for wind instruments and piano: the Adagio and Allegro, op. 70, for French Horn and piano, and the Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet and Piano, op. 73. According to Schumann himself, the pieces were written on December 7, 11, and 12th in Dresden., Unlike many other oboes, works at the time, the pieces were not the result of a commission by a prominent soloist of the day. Schumann gave the pieces to his wife Clara Schumann, whom he once described as his own right hand, as a Christmas present, calling them his hundredth opusculum. Schumann's mental health was quickly deteriorating during the time of the pieces' writing; shortly afterward, he moved from Dresden to Düsseldorf, where he was admitted to and eventually died in an asylum. On November 2, 1850, the pieces were first performed privately as a piano and violin piece with Clara Schumann on piano and François Schubert on violin. The works were first performed several years after Schumann's death, in 1863; the performances took place on January 24 and February 14 in the Gewandhaus, featuring Emilius Lund on oboe and Carl Reinecke on piano. The piece was dedicated to Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski. The original edition was published by N. Simrock. The publication date is unknown, but it is estimated to have been anywhere from December 1850 to February 1851. Nikolaus Simrock wrote a letter to Schumann on November 19, 1850, asking whether or not Schumann would agree if we were to print on the title page: 'for oboe and pianoforte' and on this with a violin 'for violin and pianoforte' and on the third 'for clarinet and pianoforte,' since it is not looked upon with favor when several instruments appear on the title page. However, Schumann denied the request, replying, If I had originally written the work for violin or clarinet, it would have become a completely different piece. I regret not being able to comply with your wishes, but I can do no other. Two copies of the original printing exist Schumann's copy and Wasielewski's dedication copy (both either in museums or private collections).Disobeying Schumann's wishes, Simrock published alternate violin and oboe parts in the first edition. In her compilation of Robert's works post-mortem, Clara only included the violin transcription, possibly due to her only playing the piece with violinists. There have been several recordings of the music, including a recent one along with other Schumann oboe works by Oboe Classics. The romances are now a standard part of the oboe repertoire and often considered the best piece of romantic repertoire for the oboe.

Romance Anonimo for Guitar. This beautiful piece, known as Romance d'Amour, Anonymous Romance, Spanish Romance, Romance de Amor, Romanza among other names are a very well know piece. The composer is unknown.Romance Anónimo (Anonymous Romance) is a piece for guitar, also known as Estudio en Mi de Rubira (Study in E by Rubira), Spanish Romance, Romance de España, Romance de Amor, Romance of the Guitar, Romanza and Romance d'Amour among other names. It is composed in the style of parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America,History:The style of the piece is that of the parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America. It has a closed three-part form, the first in the minor key and the second being in the major key, with the third part being a restatement of the first. The origins and authorship of the piece are unknown, hence 'anonimo'. It is thought to have been originally a solo instrumental guitar work from the 19th century, and has variously been attributed to Antonio Rubira, David del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor, Daniel Fortea, Francisco Vicaria l Llobet, Antonio Cano, Vicente Gómez, and Narciso Yepes. It has been suggested that doubts about its authorship may have been encouraged by a wish to avoid paying copyright fees and the desire of publishing companies to claim the lucrative copyright.Early recordings:The earliest recording of Romance is found on a cylinder from the Viuda de Aramburo label[3][4][5][6] featuring guitarists Luis and Simon Ramírez, which was made in Madrid sometime between 1897 and 1901. The work is titled Sort-Estudio para Guitarra por S. Ramirez. The name Sort, as it occurs on the cylinder's title, probably refers to Fernando Sor, as his surname is sometimes spelled Sort or Sorts. The recording may be heard on the Doremi CD release Tarrega, His Disciples, and Their Students (DHR-7996) and online at the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive.Possible origins:An early publication of the work, known as Estudio para Guitarra de Rovira and attributed to Spanish guitarist Antonio Rubira,[13] was published by J.A. Medina e Hijo in Argentina before 1925 (probably in 1913, when the publisher ceased activities).Guitarist and composer Isaías Sávio (Montevideo, 1900 — São Paulo, 1977) published the work in 1959 with the title Romance de Amor (Estudo em Mi) Música de Antonio Rovira (Segunda metade do século XIX) He published information which cited Antonio Rubira as the author. (See Violào e Mestres Junio, 1966 / São Paulo, Brasil.Sávio gives information that Juan Pargas, who knew Rubira, gave the Estudio de Rovira to the guitarist Juan Valles in 1876 or 1878. Sávio mentions that the work became popular in Buenos Aires and began to be published by, among others, Spaniard Pedro Maza; and that the work appeared in the method of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, published in Montevideo in 1919, with the title Conocido por Estudio de Rovira.Publishing company Ricordi of Argentina currently publishes the piece, and attributes authorship to Antonio Rubira.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890767 Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 41 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781035. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890767). Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. Georg Philipp Telemann – Polish Dances from the Rostock Manuscript TWV 45 (Danse d`Polones / Danse Polonie)Telemann was seduced by Polish music, especially by his dances and popular musicI became acquainted there and also in Krakau with Polish and Moravian music in its true, barbaric beauty […] […] it is impossible to imagine the fantastic musical ideas they presented between dances when the dancers rested and the musicians improvised music together [‘jammed’] to fill out the time. Anyone who paid very close attention could pick up in 8 days sufficient musical ideas to last a lifetime.(Telemann’s autobiography, published in Mattheson’s Ehren-Pforte, Hamburg, 1740)It is easy to understand, through Telemann’s own words, the great influence that Polish music and Polish dances had on Telemann. It was in 1705 when Telemann become Kapellmeister for the court of Count Erdmann II of Promnitz at Sorau (now Żary, in Poland), His career there was cut short in early 1706 by the hostilities of the Great Northern War but his contact with Polish music marked him for life. These Polish dances found in Rostock are a reflection of the music that Telemann heard and transcribed. A reflection of that barbaric beauty. The manuscript was discovered in 1986 at the University of Rostock. It consists of two volumes. One of the volumes contains the violin part and the other the bass part.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862653 Composed by Schumann, R. Arranged by Michael Bomier. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score. 18 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #3588545. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862653). Scenes from Childhood contains ADULT music, meant to evoke a simple domestic vision of life as a juvenile in a gentry household in the mid-19th century. While many young people are able to play this music, it is NOT meant as children;s literature, as are the Album for the Young, and the Tschaikowsky album of the same name. These are concert works, played by many fully virtuostic performers over the last 150 years. So, having said THAT, we have indeed edited these so as to make them MORE accessible to the young person who is a student of the piano today. The notespage, which is visible in the music sample, tells the technical story. Most of the pieces are a single page. Single-sided printing is recommended. Audio here is Traumerei, the most-well-known and oft-played single piece. Priced to reflect our commitment to the wider distribution and affordability of the Classical Piano Experience. MBB.

ISBN 9781610659444. Brazilian Choro: A Method for Mandolin focuses on teaching bandolim technique for playing Choro. The combination of method book and online audio offers a great opportunity to add performance practice to the black-and-white notes on the page. The book, presented in both English and Portuguese, is written for two different groups--Brazilians learning to play bandolim in the Choro tradition, and non-Brazilians who play other styles and want to learn Choro. Mr. Sa, a native Carioca who as played Choro since childhood, understands Choro intuitively and brings a Brazilian perspective to the project. Ms. Mair, a classical mandolinist who has spent much of the past four years refining her Choro technique in Rio, brings an outsider's viewpoint, recognizing the subtle distinctions that make Choro style unique. Together these renowned performers and university professors have created a pathway to help you play Choro with a true Carioca accent. Music presented in standard notation. Easy Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1100298 By Kate Bush. By Kate Bush. Arranged by Large Print Sheet Music. Film/TV,Instructional,Pop,Praise & Worship,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 9 pages. Large Print Sheet Music #704137. Published by Large Print Sheet Music (A0.1100298). Large Print Easy Piano Solo of Kate Bush's iconic Running Up That Hill from the 4th season of Netflix Stranger Things. This arrangement is created for ease of reading large print notes (modified stave notation). The notes, staff, and all elements are proportionately enlarged to 2 or 2.5 times the size of regular sheet music. This size is what the majority of our low-vision musicians have requested. You will find that some pages have 2 measures on a line, some have 3 or 4. This variation depends on the number of notes in each measure, as well as the difficulty of each individual passage. For example, if a measure has only a few notes, or a tie, that measure will be less spacious than a measure with many notes or challenging fingerings or other passages that would be made easier by roomier note spacing. The goal of our large print sheet music is to make the music easier to read, easier to see, and easier to play for the majority of musicians. There are many reasons why musicians look for large print music. They may be a low-vision musician, or they may have good vision, but be performing in a low light environment. Sometimes, music teachers select our large print music arrangements for students who are new to reading music. The wide staff line spacing and larger notes make it easier to navigate through a piece when a student is new to reading notes on lines and spaces. We always encourage input and ideas, and we welcome requests for custom arrangements. We can create large print music that is larger or smaller than what we have published here. Each note, each line, each measure is individually adapted to large print. This is done manually, by a real person who actually plays each piece to be sure it has improved readability. This is not done robotically by a machine. Our staff at Large Print Sheet Music personally enlarges every score. All of our music is published on Sheet Music Plus. Our goal is to add new songs daily. We believe that EVERYONE should have the opportunity to read and play music, and we are honored to help ALL musicians achieve their music goals. Please feel free to reach out to us by email at largeprintsheetmusic@gmail.com. Thank you so much for exploring our large print music arrangements! Now, go play some music!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835452 Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452). A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below. The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra. In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers. The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!https://www.facebook.com/stuartbrownmusic/
