After an instrumental introduction, based on the refrain from the original hymn by Robert Lowry (1864), the newly composed verses begin with a musical theme meant to represent flowing water in a rippling river or stream. The original lyrics are adapted for all five verses and the refrain. The first verse is followed by the refrain, adapted from the original hymn. After that the refrain follows verses 3 and 5. The song ends on the final refrain, as the tempo slows and the flowing water theme ends. The vocals start out unison, but quickly divide out to SAB parts, all in a comfortable range. The melody in the verses shifts from soprano to alto, just before it gets too low for some sopranos. However altos or baritones could probably sing the melody, as the highest notes are likely still contained within their upper range. Thus the piece could be performed as a solo for altos or baritones. Though the melody shifts, a bit, from soprano to alto, it is easily heard in continuity. Thus, intuitively, the audience, or congregation, will clearly hear the melody, and be easily able to sing along. The score provided here, contains the SAB parts and piano (with chord symbols). The song testifies what the Lord sacrificed for us, and how we can live with him, in Heaven, if we only believe. The lead changes from women to men at times. Other times, they're all together. A fun and uplifting song, fairly easy to sing (easy range) for choir or worship team. The congregation will catch on quickly, upon hearing it presented as special music. An excellent song for youth groups. The score of the vocals, piano, strings and drums, and a lead sheet with chord symbols is included. A piano only score is also included. Vocals are often unison, but at times, have two to three parts briefly, for emphasis -. similar to many worship team presentations. However, the song will sound quite good all unison, all the time, if necessary. The music is a tiny bit jazzy with swing rhythms on the eighth notes. Nice jazzy A Men ending. This is a collection of 12 Trios (or Duets) arranged for Violin, Viola and Cello, based on melodies of beloved traditional christian hymns. Melodies are harmonized mostly by interweaving counter melodies. The Violin and Viola (or Violin II) are, at times, alternating melody and counter melodies, rather than the traditional vocal parts found in church hymnals. The result is a more interweaving flow of melody and counter melody. The Cello provides the bass, as it also contributes to the counter melodious sound. A Violin II part has been added to duplicate the Viola, in case a Viola is not available. These pieces also work very nicely as duets without the Cello; or duets with the Violin and Cello. Designed for early intermediate musicians, the collection is ideal for prelude or postlude music and especially offertories in worship services, funerals, weddings, etc . Length of the pieces can be altered by using more or less of the repeats included. The last two pieces are based on melodies from Christmas hymns. In addition, these pieces have a technical training value, as would etudes and exercises, due to the moving counter melodies that may challenge students at the early intermediate level. Though written to challenge students at the early intermediate level, more advanced musicians and audiences will find this music quite satisfying to play and enjoy, respectively. String class teachers may consider using this collection in class, as the entire Violin, Viola or Cello sections will be in unison, as a section, which provides support to players within their section. At same time, the other sections would be playing other parts, also in unison as a section - a good ensemble practice tool. The class might perform pieces from this collection in concert. I had just begun receiving the main ideas for it when a pianist I know locally, Robert Aston, happened to ask me if I had written anything for piano and string quartet. I believe that Quincie “heard†this and that was the trigger and the door unlocking. Because the next thing I knew I was absolutely engulfed in the writing of this work for the next six months.Like all my works, this one is an emotional journey, and my own nickname for it is Quincie, The Comic Healer. Each movement tells a progressive story of the different stages of a journey through a long period of grief, illness, depression and chronic anxiety. The overall mood of the whole piece is extremely energetic, loving, warm, compassionate and audience friendly, and while there is some heart ache in the middle of the first movement, the work is also extremely comical and hilarious in its third and fourth movements. It has a great sense of slapstick humour alongside the deep ache of grief and unfathomable sadness. It is completely tonal and in a highly Romantic style.It has enjoyed the following performances:April 27th 2019 at the Triangle Church, Bolton BL1 5QP 7.30pm by the Pennine QuintetJune 1st 2019 at the Victoria Hall, Knowsley St. Bolton BL1 2AS at 1pm Lunchtime concert, by the Pennine QuintetJuly 7th 2019 at the Horwich Community Centre, Beaumont Rd, BL6 7BG at 2.45pm as part of the Horwich Music Festival.A great start for a brand new work! My gratitude to the Pennine Quintet and concert organizers is immense and not something I will ever forget. Thank you. The following performance was recorded and filmed at the Horwich Music Festival on July 7th 2019 and added to YouTube with permission of the Pennine Ensemble. Many many thanks.Very sadly, in June 2020, the pianist, Robert Aston, passed away from cancer. Without his wonderful support and encouragement this work never would have had even one performance let alone FOUR! Therefore, I have now fully dedicated this piece to Robert as the least I could do to thank him for all the wonderful music he gave so freely to Bolton, UK, over his lifetime. Thank you, Robert. This Christian song has lyrics based on the traditional hymn, Amazing Grace, but with a totally different melody. The eighth note rhythms use a swing style, making the song just a tiny bit jazzy. Could be sung in the style of Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. But, of course, that is not required. Though, a bit jazzy, it still retains reverence for use in a Christian Worship Service, as special music. It's basically a new version of the old favorite hymn, for solo presentation. The song was written for a Baritone or Tenor voice, but works quite well with higher octave voices also. Most singers will find the range to be comfortable. In addition to the vocal part, the sheet music includes a full score (drum set included) and a piano part. Also included is a Lead Sheet with Guitar Chord markings. A comical tune started up in my head and before I knew it it grew into a piano piece, which I wrote down and played daily to help myself cope with the stress of exams. The central Minuet is dedicated to a wonderful elderly lady student, Doris Green (same surname as myself but no relation), to whom I taught piano/keyboard for many years. She was a beautiful person and we became great pals. She is sadly no longer with us but I always remember her fondly in the Capriccio’s Minuet.The music is completely tonal and melodic, but I feel its main feature is the intense rhythmic drive throughout the fast outer sections, which hopefully will give much adrenaline and excitement to both players and listeners.

Written in 2008, Miscellany, 7 short movements for solo piano, was Commissioned by conductor/pianist Anthony Davie.Duration: approx 15 minutes in total.Inspired by friends, family and general life experiences, this set of short pieces encompasses a range of moods; from Romantic and melodic to comical and dissonant.Movement 1. Didi – Didi was a very unique and special friend for many years. She gave out great spiritual strength and insight into this very confusing world in which we all live. She was a real tower of quiet, gentle strength.Movement 2. Brew! – This movement was inspired directly by the Brewing Industry. It strives to depict the hustle and bustle of a busy, working brewery and the the many hilarious, fabulous people I met during my three years in the beer-making industry.Movement 3 – Convent Cherub – This little piece began life as the opening title music of a film score I worked on while at college. The film itself, entitled My Brother Rob, was made by Alison Hilder, a student director at the Harrow School of Film. The story told of a young boy traumatised by a convent boarding school up-bringing. I have felt for many years that this little main theme has needed an alternative home, as much film music is never played again.Movement 4 – Megan – This movement comes directly from my wonderful and beautiful daughter, who was 5 years old at the time of the writing of this piece. It seeks to express her wild vibrance, eternal cheekiness, infinite energy, sparkle and the utter fearlessness of youth.Movement 5 – Edward – This music is for my gorgeous little son, who has Down’s Syndrome, and was only 3 at the time of the writing of this piece. The opening came to me moments after the doctor had confirmed Edward had Down’s, when he was only 6 hours old. The music tries to convey the fear of the unknown, huge unconditional love and moments of uncertainty alternated by washes of strength. And yet, all through the fear the resolve to forever love and stay strong always wins.Movement 6 – Indifference – The opening 4 notes are the core of this movement, and the piece is built around and from them. This music is an observation of deep, rumbling frustration at the indifference growing in our fast moving, modern society.Movement 7 – “Wee Us†– This movement expresses family triumph, the gifts of life and love, and the glory of boundless, wild, youthful energy. This tune has not yet run its course. It will be back!

I thought that was the sweetest thing and the rest is history!We hoped to give this piece its world premiere at some point in 2018 or 2019, with Jane herself playing the bassoon and myself on clarinet. However, the first major hurdle was Jane having an operation on each hand to cure her Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and the second big hurdle was Covid-19! Due to life’s normal pressures, the work still awaits its long awaited for premiere.It has three movements, fast, slow, fast, and a total duration of approximately 15 minutes.I have also transcribed the bassoon part for bass clarinet so the piece can be played by either combination. It could even be played by two bass clarinets, which would be hilarious!I feel, as a player myself, that its main challenge is in sheer breathing and playing stamina as it certainly gets you working up a sweat by the end, but its comical, quirky character will hopefully make it great fun for players and audience alike.

However, this was an unhappymarriage, short-lived, with numerous conflicts and separations. Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair, was written asperhaps an attempt to win his wife back. To add to his problems, Foster also ran into deep financial difficulties.Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair was virtually unknown during its time. When it was first published, the royaltieson the ten thousand copies sold, earned just $200 for Stephen Foster. To make ends meet, he had to sell the rights toJeanie, as well as other songs.
