The Beatles -Yesterday (String Quartet) This arrangement will allow you to perform the song as it was originally recorded, accompanying an acoustic guitar/vocalist. A lot of research went into ensuring that this arrangement is as accurate to the original work as possible. There are many pictures online of George Martin's original score. In an interview with his son Giles (see Youtube link), Martin indicated that he and McCartney made several changes to the original. For example, McCartney added the following: M35 the Cello run to Eb; M44-M48 the high A on Violin I. When isolating the string section by soloing the left channel of the original recording, one can clearly hear several additional changes, such as the addition of double stops and inversions throughout the song. For example, Violin I goes to E in M11; Violin I & II hold the 3rd note of the harmony in M37. The end result of these changes is a masterpiece that undoubtedly one of the most successful recordings of all time.

I SEE STARS IN YOUR EYESA BEAUTIFUL, RHAPSODIC PIECE FOR SOLO HARP I See Stars in Your Eyes is a rhapsodic piece for solo harp (lever or pedal) with an improvisatory feel. The melody is flowing, the harmonies are elegant, and the mood is hauntingly tender. This five minute work makes for a great addition to the repertoire of either student or freelancer, and is perfect as a contrasting piece on a recital, atmosphere for a cocktail hour, or a casual serenade for family & friends. As a composer, a goal for Salazar is to create scores that help encourage classically trained musicians to improvise by writing cadenza-like improvisations into his pieces, making it so anyone at any level can improvise in performance. This approach lends to the most unique aspect of I See Stars in Your Eyes: the simple, easily performed improvisation section in the middle of the piece. Rather than imposing chord changes or fixed rhythm, this section has a written ostinato in the bass voice that is coupled with the freedom to improvise in the upper voice - allowing the performer to showcase their own musical voice.

Several successful recordings of the song were made in 1934 and later there were charted versions by The Flamingos (1959) and Art Garfunkel (1975). This version features a root-based chord-blocking method that we have used in many of our arrangements. This is a relatively challenging arrangement designed for an advanced high school or college group. There are a few shorter lyric solos, and plenty of room for vocal or instrumental improvisation. This chart is a bit challenging, but worth the effort. The tenors and basses have a LOT of 3rds/7ths relationships, so many tri-tones to be sung. Score. 7 pages. Martyn Johnson #981602. Published by Martyn Johnson (A0.1398326). This tune was written in 1933 by Jerome Kern with words by Otto Harbach for the musical 'Robera'. It has been recorded by so many great artists but perhaps most famously by 'The Platters'. I have arranged it for piano in the key of F which and then modulated into Ab second time round. It has further key changes within the tune during the bridge. I have reharmonised it significantly to give it a jazz feel. I have given it a semi-quaver/sixteenth note feel rather than a swing beat which I felt suited it as a ballad.Please note it is a piano solo and doesn't include the bass line that is on my YouTube recording. I write all my arrangements as piano solos first so it sounds perfect as such. I don't include pedal markings, fingerings or dynamics and prefer to leave this to the discretion of the individual pianist as you will get no two piano teachers to agree on these issues.It's a wonderful tune and I hope you have as much fun playing my arrangement as I had writing it.
