Learning chords on guitar is quite difficult; fret numbers are quite arbitary to what the chord is. There are patterns to follow, but they are buried in a convoluted foggy swamp. The tuning of guitar strings essentially puts the music theory in a blender and one has to study for a long time to decode it. It is my hope that this PDF will shine some light on how chords are built, and why some of them have a lot of clarity in how they are working, and why others seem completely random. This PDF shows chords that commonly happen in pop music, so it is by no means an exhaustive list. For knowing how to use chords, see my chord progression generator uploads.Tips:1. There is redundacy for a reason; this pdf shows multiple ways of playing the same chord.2. The first two pages are for the music theory purists in that there is hardly ever an uneccesary note to mantain the name of the chord. This is useful for understanding what notes are needed for a chord (it's a cliche for guitarists to have overly large chords).3. Pages 3 and 4 are the famous voicings. 4. Pages 5 and 6 are the bar chord versions. These versions are physically harder to play, but they can add a lot of clarity and simplicity to your playing (the famous voicings on pages 3 and 4 are seemingly random). They are much easier to slide to any key you want and much easier to see similiarities and patterns between chords.

The first several bars came to me in a 2011 vivid dream in which Paul McCandless was playing soaring soprano sax melodies and Jaye Alison Moscariello was singing lyrics I did not remember from the dream. It was originally in D with some Dad-related chord progressions. This version is in A to better fit the alto voice. After writing 3 verses of rather convoluted lyrics about healing the planet, Jaye helped pare it down to one powerful verse that could be a world anthem. George and Paul play solos during the instrumental break. We think this would make a great national, or international, anthem. Full score. I am a frequent visitor to the Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio, Rome. Shelley, Keats and Corso are buried there among other expatriates who adopted the city of Rome as their own. I am a not a huge fan of the music by Ottorino Respighi, whose work, like the Pines of Rome, reminds too much of Hollywood music scores. But I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered on YouTube a chamber work he wrote for mezzo-soprano and string quartet called “Il Tramonto.†The vocal and string writing are exquisite, quite beautiful and heart-felt. When I looked at the source of the text I saw that it was an Italian translation by Roberto Ascoli of a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. That immediately inspired me to do my own musical setting of this poem. Two reasons. One, it has a Rome connection. Two, two of my favorite subjects in music are all there in one poem: love and death. Unfortunately I did not find the original English version to be sufficiently “musical.†The archaic language was a bit leaden and convoluted. On the other hand, the Italian translation is so much more lyrical and transcendental. I divided the poem into five parts. At the end I decided to tag on a text I have wanted to set for quite some time: Media Vita. I think the subject of this Latin text fits beautifully as a coda or “apotheosis†to Il Tramonto. I. Moderato … Già v’ebbe un uomo II. Andante … Ora è sommerso il sole III. Adagio … Il given e la dama giacquer tra il sonno IV. Moderato … Neri gli occhi ma non fulgidi più V. Adagio … Ho tal retaggio che la terra non dà VI. Apotheosis: Largo … Media Vita Enjoy!!!

Easy piano arrangement of Happy by Pharrell, with lyrics. As a piano teacher, the structure of this piece is long & convoluted. I've tried to simplify that by placing ALL repeat markings in bold & larger font. The systems & bars are well spaced so I'm hoping that the music doesn't look so 'busy'. That's why the arrangement is so looooong! I suggest that the use of colour can enhance the learning experience for students as there aren't many repeating patterns.

It was in 1898, while he was at secondary school in Nagyszombat, that Kodály wrote his strophic Stabat Mater for a capella male choir.I used the version for mixed choir (arranged by Imre Sulyok) in my arrangement and I add additional parts for a string quintett or string orchestra. The arrangement sounds great and emotional.I recorded it with the powerful Vienna Ensemble Software, MirX Convolution Reverb and Logic X Mastering.
