c-Moll-Mozart's Missa in C for SATB.The Mass in C minor K. 427 Mozart's 'Great Mass' remaines a torso - a circumstance which is extremely regrettable especially given the monumentality of this work. Mozart finished only the Kyrie Gloria Sanctus 'Osanna' and Benedictus of the Mass. For two movements from the Credo he only completed sketches without instrumentation. In March 1785 Mozart arranged Kyrie and Gloria supplemented by a tenor and a soprano aria for the Italian oratorio 'Davide penitente'. In his arrangement of the Mass in c minor Richard Maunder added Creed wind and brass instruments to the Credo sketches.

The only meaningful reference is Reger's announcement to his London publisher George Augener on August 1, 1892: 'I will send the choruses op. 6 ? which your son liked very much ? to you tomorrow morning [...]'. George Augener had spent five weeks from undergoing treatment in Wiesbaden and had met on this occasion not only Hugo Riemann but also his 'favorite pupil' Reger. After the publication, the Allgemeine Musik-Zeitung remarked on the 'entirely Brahmsian character to the work'. It praised its polyphonic structure and its'romantic chiaroscuro [...], the effect of which the accompanying piano knows how to exalt excellently'. The full harmonic and stylistic breadth of the early 20th century sings out, not only in frenetic song, but also in the search for awareness in quieter passages. Reger?s opulence, tonal and contrapuntal almost throughout, finally culminates in a double fugue with an off-stage orchestra similar to the trumpets of Jericho over ?Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott?. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. Brahms? elegy Nänie op. 82, based on the poem by Friedrich von Schiller, was composed in 1880/81 following the death of the painter Anselm Feuerbach, whom Brahms greatly admired. In contrast with the poem, Brahms? Nänie ends full of hope: after earthly decline, beauty can live on in art. As in his Deutsches Requiem op. 45, in Nänie Brahms creates a musical connection between mourning and consolation in an incomparable way. Inspired by the model of classical Roman-Greek laments, the work adopts the classical verse form chosen by Schiller ? surely alluding to Feuerbach?s classically-inspired art.Scored for mixed chorus and orchestra, we are publishing the work in a modern Urtext edition.
