The numerous, mostly religious works of the Bohemian composer Andreas Hammerschmidt are composed with great craftmanship, and sound full and catchy. They were composed for 17th century village churches, in which they were sung by the congregation—and they are still familiar and popular today. Robert van Beringen took the advent hymn Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Gates and created this beautiful arrangement. Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten was composed by Georg Neumark in about 1641 and was subtitled ‘Trostlied’ literally meaning consolation song. Songbooks at the time showed the popularity of this song and it is still well-known today partly due to Johann Sebastian Bach’s use of the melody for one of his own chorals. In Jan de Haan’s arrangement the choral is heard twice, once, alternating with the original motif from the introduction and a second time, without interruption, reflecting the composer’s original intention - a song of consolation.Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten wurde um 1641 von Georg Neumark geschrieben. This was not a success and Jane, his wife and Marion, his daughter, moved back to Pittsburgh in 1854. Foster wrote Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair as a result of her continued absence. How wrong they were is now clear as the song is popular worldwide and is often performed in churches as well as carol concerts. Roland Kernen has produced this beautiful version of Cantique de Noël for brass band.Adams kerstlied Cantique de Noël (in Frankrijk bekender als Minuit, Chrétiens en in het Engels populair als O Holy Night) werd in eerste instantie bekritiseerd door de kerkelijke autoriteiten, die een gebrek aanmuzikale smaak en de afwezigheid van religieuze beleving constateerden.
