These delightful anthems come at a time of great interest in Celtic music and literature. Dr. Greene has composed characterful and colorful music for each of these poems that will be a joy to learn. The Tree of Life is set quite reflectively with a flute obbligato that captures the elegiac text. Patrick s Evening Hymn has long phrase lines and a chant-like flow between the organ and voices. Caedmon s Hymn is set as a lively vigorous dance that emphasizes the strength of this text. The keyboard parts are discreet and supportive throughout and the voice ranges are quite moderate in scope. These short anthems are winning additions to the SAB repertory.

For SAB and piano Chilcott has re-scored this serene anthem, originally for upper voices, for SAB, making it accessible to choirs with a limited number of male voices. A rich addition to the Choral Evensong repertory, the anthem juxtaposes an original setting of Fuller's 'Evening Hymn' with the plainsong melody 'Te lucis ante terminum'.

This setting of a 17th century English poem proclaims the wonder of Christmas and the oneness of all things. While the opening two stanzas feature broad and expansive phrases over an arpeggiated accompaniment, the work's emotional core is found in the contrasting section: “Welcome all wonders in one sight/Summer in winter, day in night” before the final recapitulation of the opening strains. Available separately: SATB, SAB, SSA. Duration: ca. 3:20.
