Written for 3 to 5 octave handbell choir and 3 octave of handchimes. Level 3. Lee Afdhal's original work begins with a somber feeling of tension which gives way to a mournful melody of yearning. The middle section drives the piece forward before the return of the opening material, which now has a more hopeful feeling than before. It begins with a seven-measure introduction of trumpetings followed by the main theme, which is regal in nature with syncopated rhythms which give the music its continual forward impetus. There are contrasting sections in mood and temperament - including a very lyrical passage for optional handchimes in a contrasting key and mood. The main theme returns as the work comes to a triumphal conclusion.
