From the 1970 Thad Jones Consummation album, this medium tempo rhythm swinger has been re-scored by Mike Carubia capturing the essence of Thad Jones original. A tasty sax soli section and a slightly simplified unison trombone soli section combine give all sections a chance to shine while the unique tiptoeing style of this quality chart is sure to make it a favorite at concerts and festivals for many years to come. Plenty of solo space and suggested written solos are included on the parts.

The name says it all in this swingin' piece featuring the trombone section with a brassy attitude. It's a twelve bar, B-flat blues tune that gives the trombones a chance to shine with both unison and harmonized lines. The trumpets and saxes add in with complimentary hits and counter melodies. The piece works great as an easy laid back swing or with an up tempo groove. The ranges are modest but everyone in audience will know if some have a 'bone to pick with them!

This happy, joyous medium-tempo gospel swing with a truly sunny disposition takes the listener in immediately and just does not let go! An animated full-ensemble introduction leads the way to the sun-beamy, chirrupy melody, at first presented by trumpet and alto over a stop-time rhythm section. The entire sax section takes the melody next, while the brass offer uplifting commentary by way of stop-time chords. Plunger-muted trumpet is featured at the solo section, with inspiring backgrounds from the ensemble; this section may be repeated as desired to feature additional solos. Some deft linear writing follows the solo section, providing exciting dialog throughout the ensemble before leading up to an intriguing and effective pyramid that leaps forward into the stirring shout chorus. A clever tag alights on the ending plagal cadence, offering a place for the plunger-muted Trumpet to shine above the final chord. Gather ‘Round is sure to bring a smile, and destined to be a mainstay!
