Chorus (with soloists) and orchestra (solos: SAB - choir: SATB - 2.0.0.0 - 0.0.0.0 - str - bc) SKU: BR.BV-209 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Hafner,Klaus and Oswald Bill. Choir; Linen. Buchverlag Breitkopf & Hartel (Music Books). Mass; Baroque. Book. 64 pages. Duration 38'. Breitkopf and Haertel #BV 209. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.BV-209). ISBN 9783765102097. 9 x 14.5 inches. German. The Publication in facsimile of the auto graphic copy of Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in A major BWV 234 at the occasion of the Bach Anniversary Year 1985 has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the publishing house which so carefully preserved this precious manuscript in its archives for almost 200 years. The manuscript was acquired long ago by Johann Gottlob Immanuel Breitkopf, the brilliant and dynamic forefather of the publishing house Breitkopf & Hartel, who conducted a prosperous business selling music transcriptions in Leipzig. It is still unclear as to how he obtained the manuscript. Perhaps it had belonged to the estate of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, from whom Breitkopf apparently acquired a part of his Bach collection. The earliest reference to the manuscript's change of ownership is found in Breitkopfs Verzeichniss Musicalischer Werke of 1761, which includes Bach's Missa, a 2 Flauti, 2 Violini, Viola 4 Voci, Organo under the listing of copies of unpublished compositions. The copy was available at the price of 2 thl. (thalers) 12gl. (groschen). A few years later, in 1769, the same offer appeared again together with other works by Bach or ascribed to him in the Verzeichniss lateinischer und italianischer Kirchen-Musiken of Bernhard Christoph Breitkopf & Sohn. In more recent times, the work has been mentioned in Wilhelm Hitzig's Katalog des Archivs von Breitkopf & Hartel, revised in 1925, together with the continuo part, which was included with the copy and which was also originally written in Bach's own hand. The economic reorganization of the publishing house Breitkopf & Hartel after the Second World War made it necessary to sell the manuscript together with other works from the publisher's archives. This manuscript was to have been put up at auction by the auction house J. A. Stargardt. The catalogue, containing an informative commentary by Wolfgang Schmieder, was already printed, but before the auction could take place, the land of Hesse decided to purchase all the manuscripts, thus preventing the dispersion of this valuable collection. The manuscript was officially handed over to the Hessische Landes- und Hochschulbibliothek in Darmstadt on 29 October 1953. The A major Mass is still preserved there today, together with its fellow piece, the Mass in G major BWV 236. $105.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Klaus Hofmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal; Hymns by Martin Luther: Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott. Harmony parts. Innovative practice aids, Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Reformation day. Set of Orchestra Parts. BWV 80. 12 pages. Duration 30 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.080/89. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3108089). ISBN 9790007206840. Key: D major. Text language: German/English. Text: Luther, Martin. Bach's Reformation cantata, based on what is probably Martin Luther's most famous hymn, evolved over a period of several years. At the beginning was a Weimar cantata for Oculi Sunday 1716, now missing, which was based on the hymn with an instrumental quotation in the opening aria and with the final chorale. In the Leipzig years around 1730, Bach wrote a cantata for Reformation Day using this material. It began with the first verses of Luther's hymn in a simple four-part setting and also included the other verses. Later on, in the 1730s or 1740s, Bach replaced the introductory chorale movement with a chorale setting which was unique, spacious and motet-like in its style; this - uniquely in this respect - incorporated the choral writing in an instrumental canon for oboes and organ continuo. The powerful opening chorus is followed by recitatives and arias which reflect the full breadth of Bach's art of word painting and emotion. One of Bach's most magnificent cantatas, one of the greatest works in the history of music. In addition to the complete performance material the arrangements of movements 1 and 5 (with 3 trumpets, timpani as playing score) by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach are available (Carus 3108089). Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3108000. $32.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

The solo cantataJauchzet Gott in allen Landen, written around 1730 for the 15th Sunday after Trinity, is one of Bach's best-known cantatas. The scoring for solo soprano, trumpet, strings and continuo is unique amongst Bach's cantatas and has parallels with Italian composers of the period. The enduring popularity of the work is due to the clear and succinct formal structure and not least to the virtuoso trumpet part and soprano arias, in which the soloists can demonstrate their total mastery. The cantata is published in a vocal score based on theNew Bach Editionwith an idiomatic straightforward piano reduction by Martin Focke. - Famous work with a festive instrumental sound - Urtext based on theNew Bach Edition - Clear straightforward piano reduction
