These Fantasias are part of a collection of Twelve Fantasias for Viola da Gamba Solo, originally published in 1735 but considered lost until rediscovered in 2015. Mr. Sauer has beautifully transcribed them for unaccompanied Tenor Trombone and are appropriate for advanced performers. His editorial dynamics have been included as suggestions. Each of the Three Fantasias has contrasting fast and slow movements.

The composer and organist Paul Siefert, baptized in Gdansk on 28 June 1586 and died there on 6 May 1666, belongs to the 'North German organ school'. Thanks to a grant of the town council of Gdansk, Siefert spent the years from 1607 until probably late 1610 studying in Amsterdam where he got important ideas and suggestions as a pupil of Sweelinck. After his return he became deputy organist in Gdansk. From 1611 to 1616 he worked as an organist first at the church in the old town of Konigsberg, then at the Warsaw court orchestra. On 23 September 1623 he was appointed organist at the Marienkirche of Gdansk in succession to Michael Weyda where he worked until the end of his life. This edition of his organ works contains 13 fantasias, two chorale preludes and a motet as well as a detailed description of the work in the preface and in the critical report.

Therefore, Barthold Kuijken presents a transcription along with a critical appraisal of the musical text. His preface informs about the genesis of the work, discusses the scoring, and comments on stylistic and formal aspects.The former Musica-Rara edition of the 12 Fantasias has been revised by the editor and is now supplied with a better facsimile.

Heinrich Scheidemann is regarded as one of the most influential organists of the 17th century. His most significant achievement lies within his further developing of his teacher J. P. Sweelinck's chorale arrangements into a wide-ranging chorale fantasia primarily to display in full the organ's sound. The present volume constitutes a complete edition of all nine Chorale Fantasias based on Lutheran chorales that, except for one, are extant as individual works. The authenticity of six fantasias is considered certain, with the attribution of the three anonymously transmitted works being based on the source situation and style. The repertoire as a whole provides an insight into the progressive development of the chorale fantasia and concurrently represents Scheidemann's three main creative phases.

Luis de Narváez (ca. 1500 - ca. 1550) was a 16th century composer and performer on the vihuela, also notable for being the first composer for vihuela to adapt the contemporary Italian style of lute music. He is best known today for Los seys libros del Delphin, a historically significant collection of polyphonic music for the guitar. Part 1 includes 14 fantasias. Edited and transcribed for guitar by Emilio Pujol.
