With his 'Omaggio a Vivaldi' Enjott Schneider drew a musical portrait of the Italian Baroque master. Whereas the first movement illuminates the topic of Vivaldi's scandalous relationship with the prima donna Anna who was his junior by 25 years, the second movement focuses on the composer of magical dream worlds who was far ahead of his time. The final virtuoso picture characterizes Vivaldi in the way that many of his contemporaries saw him: as a manically composing eccentric.The Concerto for recorder, strings and harpsichord is dedicated to the virtuoso flutist Stefan Temmingh. Created by the composer himself, the piano score now makes this interesting piece accessible for chamber music purposes.

This work was commissioned by the Latvian choir Kamer within the framework of a large-scale project centered round the topic the sun. A poem by Paul de Brancion is interspersed with expressions and sayings taken from French folklore. The poetic text describing the contemporary anxiety that everything will be scorched by the sun as a result of global warming provides a response to popular opinion and cheerful idioms. The score is constructed like a descent into great depths, from the sunlight into darkness. The composition can also be combined with its sequel composition Au dessous des etoiles (Under the Stars) for mixed choir.Thierry Pecou.

In this trio, as in most of his compositions, Jost has pictures and associations with true incidents, films and novels in his mind. What inspired him to write this piece was Joseph Conrad's novel 'Heart of Darkness' in which the protagonist Marlow says about the city of Brussels: 'In a few hours I arrived in a city that always make me think of a whited sepulchre.'In 'Sepulchral City', a work commissioned to mark the tenth anniversary of the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, however, the title refers to Jerusalem, the city of white tombs. The topic of Jost's trio is a travel into the soul and living spirit of a city, with no physical movement being needed to find the heart of impenetrable darkness: It lies within the city walls.In this respect, 'Sepulchral City' equals a compositionally unfolded funeral bell. Even the animated middle section rather has insisting than progressive power. At the end, the only thing to do is to inhale and exhale.
