Annette et LubinJustine Favart and Adolphe Blaise'sAnnette et Lubinwas premiered on 15 February 1762 at the Paris Opera-Comique - the first new production at that theater following its merger with the Comedie-Italien. It was a resounding success: by the time the season came to an end, on 3 April, it had been almost continuously on the program with no decline in interest from the public, and it remained in the repertoire for more than thirty years. Countless new editions, translations, and parodies of the play bear witness to its impact far beyond the borders of Paris. Like all of Favart's works, it deals with the subject of natural love, unencumbered by considerations of money or social status endangering it from the outside through powerful aristocratic or wealthy rivals. The plot is based on a literary model, the like-named tale by Jean-Francois Marmontel, which is in turn based on a contemporary occurrence. Annette and her cousin Lubin are sharply reprimanded for their love by an estate administrator (Le Bailli) who himself has designs on Annette. He takes advantage of Annette's illegitimate pregnancy to extort her: only by marrying him can she escape condemnation by society and the church. But Annette and her lover are able to gain the protection of the local squire (Le Seigneur), and the story ends happily with a conciliatory gesture from the lord of the manor. The second volume in our series OPERA, Annette et Lubin, consists of a cloth-bound book and an Edirom file stored on a USB card in credit-card format. The number of simultaneous users of the edition's digital component is unlimited.Further information on the work and the OPERA series can be found at http://www.opera-edition.com/en/annetteetlubin_en.htm.OPERA: Spectrum of European Music Theatre in Separate Editions is dedicated to critical editions of outstanding works of European music theatre from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Compositions of French, Italian, German, English, Scandinavian and Slavic origin are being edited. These include specific genres which have seldom been given attention in editorial undertakings until now and which present their own editorial problems, such as ballet, theatre music, melodrama or operetta.A new feature is the form of the presentation in so-called hybrid editions. While the scores appear in traditional cloth-bound volumes, the musical and textual sources, the editions of the dramatic texts, as well as the critical commentaries are prepared and presented on an electronic platform (Edirom). Thanks to this ability to access the underlying sources, the editorial decisions are completely transparent to the user. This special editorial access being implemented by OPERA's editions uses the software Edirom, which was developed in a project of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) based at the University of Paderborn. All components of the electronic part are encoded according to the modern standard of XML. The text components follow the standard of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI).

Peter Terry's Unleashed?makes for an impressive concert opener that is the musical equivalent of unleashing a caged animal. The piece is exciting from start to finish, with energetic and bold material that students will love to play.Everyone wants to be unleashed, to be set free of restraints. This piece captures the exhilaration of being set into motion with unlimited optimism and energy. The piece is a rhythmic and propulsive gallop that spins off lyrical material as it drives to a climactic finish that is both exciting and fun. The piece opens with a robust first theme, then transitions on a rhythmic figure spun off from the opening material. The opening section repeats in variation with different orchestration. The more lyrical material that emerges should be brought out to balance the first theme and rhythmic figures from the first section. A development of the material from the opening follows, driving to a brief pause. This pause feels like it will lead to a contrasting lyrical theme, but the energy is just suspended for a second before the piece takes off again. The work finishes with a repeated-note transition back to variations on the opening material and a propulsive rush to the end. I enjoyed writing this piece and hope your students will enjoy playing these contrasting styles and that you will find the piece beneficial in teaching important musical concepts. ?????????Peter Terry, 2018.Everyone wants to be unleashed, to be set free of restraints. The title Par-feshani-ye 'Eshq translates, in English, to The Fluttering Wings Of Love and was taken from a text by the 18th century Sufi poet Bidel . Each brief movement takes a couplet from the poem as inspiration, drawing on an extraordinary array of images of clay pots on waterwheels, a nightingale’s fluttering wings, weighty fetters links and the world’s garden roses. The work is dedicated to friends Renée Reznek and Bruce Wannell. Bruce introduced Harrison to the poetry of Bidel and Renée had the privilege of performing the piece on its premiere performance. Australian born freelance composer and performer Sadie Harrison ’s unique fusion of elements from indigenousLithuanian music and poetry with her own modernist, often abrasive, style have led her to be compared with Bartok, but with her own warmth and grandeur. Since 2012 Harrison has been working alongside a long list of well accomplished musicians; Paul Carey, Peter Sheppard Skaerved, Sergej Okrushko, Alex South, Duncan Honeybourne are among many who have had the privilege work with Harrison so far. Performances of Harrison 's works have been given across the world by Lontano, London Chamber Symphony, Music Projects/ London, Ixion, Okeanos, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Kokoro and the St. Christopherus Chamber Orchestra, and many others.

This collection, created in 1888, is Johannes Brahms's last collection of secular choral songs. Originally for four-to-six parts, these sonorous choral works are striking for their rich harmony and double-choir polyphonic effects, traits more frequently found in his sacred works. The compilation of the texts testifies to the 55-year-old composer's growing awareness of the transience of nature and life. The name SAM-Klang takes the three voice parts from the arrangements -- Soprano, Alto and Men -- and combines it with the Scandinavian and German words for “sound†to create the portmanteau word “sound together†or “harmony.†The series offers basic and advanced choral repertoire. In addition to new repertoire and new arrangements, you will also find essential parts of the classical German, Scandinavian, French and English SATB repertoire, carefully and considerately reworked for SAM. The arrangements retain the characteristic features of the original movements and have almost the same richness of timbre, resulting in works which sound nearly unchanged to an audience. Piano reductions of all choral movements facilitate rehearsal preparation. The arrangements offer development opportunities for all voice sections, bringing new life and new quality to SAM choir work. SAM-Klang enables youth choirs to gain access to classical choral literature and ensures that mixed choirs who face challenges in finding singers for all male voice parts continue to have access to well-loved repertoire.

In many parts of the world, Advent and Christmas carols have become part of the standard repertoire of popular songs, and this tradition has also produced a large number of such songs in German-speaking countries. These include not only folk songs, some of unknown origin, but also art songs in various styles, as well as movements from popular classical Christmas works. This diversity is reflected in this first volume of German-language Christmas carols, which brings together carols from a broad range of eras, origins and styles. The 29-year-old Franz Schubert composed his German Mass (D 872) in 1826 at the request of Johann Philipp Neumann, who also wrote the text with the original title “Songs for the celebration of the holy sacrifice of the Mass.†Its name derives from the the fact that - unlike most sacred works of the time - the German language is used. Its great popularity can be explained primarily by the straighforward and memorable music of Schubert; in addition, the German texts, in contrast to the traditional Latin Mass texts, focus on people with their earthly worries and needs, which certainly reflected Schubert's own religious convictions. Autres chants (Other songs) is a cycle of five lieder for 3-part women's choir and obligato piano, by which I mean that the piano takes part in the musical development following the tradition of the German lied. As for the text, having worked quite a while on 'real' poems (Reverdy, Victor Hugo, du Bouchet, Dupin), I returned here to my own texts, written specifically for music in the 60s and which I had then set in a work called 'Mots' (1963). It was already about love, pain and play... but sixty years later, the world had changed a lot and the words didn't quite have the same meaning. So there is nothing here that recalls the initial work. Hence also the need today to give evocative titles to the five pieces of this cycle: - Neigees (Snowy traces) - Meme pas peur (Hardly scared) - Oh ne plus... (Oh no longer...) - N'es mien (Aren't mine) - D'elle? (Of her?).

Die Schöpfung is not only a decisive high point in Joseph Haydn's career as a composer, but also marks a turning point in the history of the oratorio in general. On the threshold of the 19th century, Haydn broke with the traditional dominance of arias, gave the chorus much greater importance and thus paved the way for a new “chororatorio†- one of the main pillars of the up-and-coming bourgeois concert life.
