Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1064131-010 From 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Tohru Takahashi. The Great Classics. Transcription. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2006. De Haske Publications #DHP 1064131-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1064131-010). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. The Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) was self-educated to a large extent but went on to become one of the ?Mighty Five? which also included Balakirev, Cui, Borodin and Rimsky-Korsakov. Today he is considered the innovator of Russian music par excellence. He composed Pictures at an Exhibition in 1874, inspired by ten pictures produced by his then recently deceased friend, the Russian architect and artist Victor Hartmann. The French composer Maurice Ravel made an orchestration of Mussorgsky?s composition in 1922 which is now more well-known and more performed than the original piano suite. For his transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition, Tohru Takahashimade use of the original piano composition by Mussorgsky. The Great Gate of Kiev, issued here separately, is probably the best known melody from this classical masterpiece.
De Russische componist Moessorgsky (1839-1881) componeerde Pictures at an Exhibition (Schilderijententoonstelling) in 1874. Dit afzonderlijk uitgegeven deel, The Great Gate at Kiev, is waarschijnlijk het bekendst.
$137.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 3 SKU: BT.DHP-1084548-010 From Boris Godunov. Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Wil van der Beek. Great Classics. Classical. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2008. De Haske Publications #DHP 1084548-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1084548-010). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. The most important work by the Russian composer Modest Moussorgsky (1839-1881) is undoubtedly his masterly opera Boris Godunov. A number of years after the composer’s death, this opera was re-orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov, with his romantic version being quiet different from the original score by Moussorgsky. ‘Love in the Garden’ is a lovely quiet moment from the opera, a beautiful duet between Marina and Dmitri. Add a little romance to any concert with this attractive arrangement for concert band.
$110.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 5 SKU: BT.DHP-1043752-140 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Tohru Takahashi. The Great Classics. Concert Piece. Score Only. Composed 2004. De Haske Publications #DHP 1043752-140. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1043752-140). English-German-French-Dutch. Composer Modest Moussorgsky (1839-1881) came from the prosperous environment of Russian nobility. In 1865, after his officer’s education, he joined the guard’s regiment in St. Petersburg. Here he met a number of well-known colleague-composers, including Balakirev, Cui, Rimsky- Korsakov and Borodin. They strived to develop a “classical style†of composing while at the same time retaining a strong Russian influence. His opera Boris Godunov tells the tale of Boris, who with the support of the people, declared himself Tsar, but totally fell short of the role. The opera became popular in the re-orchestrated version produced by Rimsky-Korsakov in 1896. Tohru Takahashi has usedthe beautiful musical themes of this opera in Selections from Boris Godunov - a captivating work for concert band.

Set (Score & Parts) with CD. Composed 2004. 28 pages. De Haske Publications #DHP 1043522-070. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1043522-070). International. These three pieces were originally written for piano but have echoes of Mussorgsky?s most famous work ? Pictures at an Exhibition. The intention is to use each instrument in a virtuosic and solo-like manner. One can hear moments of Pictures in the pieces; The Hut of Babba Yaga comes to mind during In the Crimea and The Village contains a Promenade section not unlike that of Pictures. Still later, the muted horn and trumpet ?clucking? remind the listener of the Ballet of the Chickens.

Alto Saxophone - easy to intermediate SKU: HL.49019006 Alto Saxophone and Piano. Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Heinz Both. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Edition Schott. Classical. Softcover. 10 pages. Schott Music #ED20996. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019006). ISBN 9790001174619. 9.0x12.0x0.075 inches. With his piano cycle Pictures at an Exhibition from 1874, Mussorgsky created a classic example of programme music. Based on the paintings of his deceased friend Viktor Hartmann, he also composed the lyrical serenade 'Il vecchio castello' (The Old Castle), among others. Hartmann's picture shows a medieval Italian castle with a singing troubadour who accompanies himself on the lute. In Maurice Ravel's subsequent famous orchestral version, the beautiful, melancholy melody was played by the alto saxophone. Accompaniment, prelude and interludes are reminiscent of playing a medieval hurdy-gurdy with its pervading drone bass. Therein lies the continuity of the piece, thereabove lies the quiet romance with its melancholy character - the unrequited love of the troubadour. This separate edition now gives all saxophonists the opportunity to play the piece with piano accompaniment. $13.99 - See more - Buy online
