The Butterfly that Stamped is a story from the anthology Just So Stories, written by Rudyard Kipling for his daughter who suffered constant bad health. The book inspired composer Maxim Aulio to compose this work which is in a French impressionistic style. The piece opens with a beautiful palace surrounded by the impressive gardens of King Solomon. It is in these gardens that the baritone saxophone makes its appearance representing King Solomon himself, the flute representing the butterfly couple, the clarinet representing Queen Balkis and the trumpet the djin.The Butterfly that Stamped - Der Schmetterling, der aufstampfte“ - ist eine von zwölf Erzählungen aus dem Band Just So Stories, den Rudyard Kipling, der berühmte Autor des Dschungelbuchs, Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts für seine kranke Tochter schrieb. On lui doit notamment les célèbres ouvrages Le Livre de la Jungle (1894), Histoires comme ça (1902) et Kim (1901), entre autres. Rudyard Kipling a sillonné le monde, glanant de-ci de-l des mots et des merveilles raconter aux petits et aux grands. Aujourd’hui encore ses Histoires comme ça enchantent par leur drôlerie et leur poésie ; de délicieux récits d’animaux entre l’Inde et l’Afrique initialement écrits pour sa fille, Joséphine, qui mourut en 1899 des suites d’unegrippe.Le Papillon qui tapait du pied est un des douze contes du recueil Histoires comme ça. Maxime Aulio s’en est inspiré pour créer une œuvre qui s’inscrit dans la tradition de l’impressionnisme musical français. Le saxophone baryton solo incarne le Roi Salomon, fils de David ; les fl tes jouent le couple de papillons ; une clarinette est la Reine Balkis - la Sage Balkis de Saba - tandis que les trompettes et les cornets représentent les Djinns. L’œuvre a été donnée en création le 30 avril 2006 au Thé tre Municipal d’Aurillac. L’Orchestre Régional d’Harmonie École d’Auvergne était placé sous la direction de Claude Kesmaecker, avec en soliste, Alexandre Doisy, saxophone baryton. Although he was born in Split, Croatia, of Belgian descent, Franz von Suppé’s nationality is defined less by his actual descendents than by the country and city where he lived and worked and had the great majority of his success, the Austrian capital, Vienna. It was here where, with assistance from the Johan Strausses and Franz Lehar, he helped to assure Vienna’s reputation as the operetta capital of the world. He achieved this by pioneering operetta as a major medium for the theatre. The overture to Light Cavalry is one of his two most famous works, the other being the Poet and Peasant Overture written as incidental music for a play of the same name.Der Schauplatz von Leichte Kavallerie, einer komischen Oper in zwei Akten aus dem Jahr 1866, ist Ungarn. Ãrpád Balázs (*1937) composed the first version of Rhapsody for Hungarian cimbalom and concert band in 2001; in 2021, on the encouragement by a Japanese marimba player he arranged the solo part for marimba, and therefore the opportunities for the work to beplayed have significantly widened. The Rhapsody follows the one-movement structure created by Franz Liszt. The beginning solo section of the cimbalom (or marimba) returns before the coda as a pillar of the form. The composition, which can be divided into five sections, develops and works with a Lydian tetrachordal motif (G-A-B-C sharp) in different characters, stretching the span of music from a simple, children's song-like appearance to an obstinate ritual dance. In conclusion, the Rhapsody is a passionately emotional lyric orchestral poem rich in colours and characters, which has a place on the repertoire of every concert band playing quality music.

The Carl Fischer heritage of publishing fine band music has been a fact of music publishing almost since the firm's founding in 1872. With a huge and expanding repertoire to draw on, it is a logical step for Fischer to issue a series of compact discs of band music for sale. With this release, the Carl Fischer Media Group begins what we intend to be the annual release of a recording devoted to classic band music. Bleecker Street Records is the name of the label developed for this purpose and A Perfect Union is our first commercial CD. It contains first-rate performances of classic original works for upper grade band such as Canzona by Peter Mennin, editions of celebrated transcriptions such as Procession of the Nobles in an edition by Van Ragsdale of the classic Eric Leidzen arrangement of Rimsky Korsakov's original and Robert Foster's edition of Henry Fillmore's celebrated transcription of Von Suppé's Light Cavalry Overture. Also included are terrific pieces by Daron Aric Hagen, Larry Clark, Quincy C. Hilliard and Elliot Del Borgo. The performances by the Washington and show the music and the players to best advantage. This will be a recording to own and treasure. Winds under the inspired direction of Edward Petersen, are invigorating.

Wil van der Beek wählte aus dem Einakter eine Prelude, eine Ballade, einen Can Can und eine Kirchenszene und schuf daraus diese bezaubernde Fantasie-Ouvertüre für Blasorchester.

Nur wenigen ist bekannt, dass Franz Schubert sich jahrelang mit dem Komponieren von Opern und Theatermusik beschäftigt war. Insgesamt schrieb er nicht weniger als zehn vollständige Werke fürs Theater. Schubert hofft stets aus eine erfolgreiche Oper oder Theaterproduktion, die allerdings ausblieb. Dies lag wahrscheinlich hauptsächlich an den mittelmäßigen Libretti, die er zur Verfügung hatte. Der Musik, die er für das Theaterstück Rosamunde, Fürstin von Zypern schrieb ging es nicht anders. Im Oktober 1823 bekam Schubert den Auftrag, die Theatermusik zum Libretto von Helmina von Chézy zu schreiben. Obwohl er das Libretto erst im November erhielt, gelang es Ihm dennoch die neunNummern von Rosamunde in nur drei Wochen zu verfassen. Nach einigen Proben ging das Stück am 20. Dezember 1823 in Premiere am Theater an der Wien. Die verwirrende Geschichte - ein Durcheinander von romantischen Intrigen zwischen Prinzessinnen, Hirten und Jägern - konnte das Publikum allerdings nicht begeistern. Nichtssagend, ermüdend und unnatürlich, so lautete der Kommentar eines Kritikers. Es folgte auch nur eine Wiederholung und danach verschwand das Stück von der Bühne. Im Gegensatz zu der harten Kritik über das Libretto waren das Publikum und die meisten Kritiker sehr begeistert über die Musik Schuberts. Auch heute noch gilt Rosamunde als eines seiner bekanntesten Orchesterwerke, das hier durch das Arrangement Tohru Takahashi auch für Blasorchester zugänglich wurde.
